Robert, thank you for your help on this! More accurately, thank you for making it *possible*! You are THE mold-maker in my book, so this collaboration was an honor. I'm grateful. P.S. I tend towards the messy-silly side, but at the aftermath of the casting, even I realized "that was way too much resin". I told my wife "I cannot IMAGINE what Robert thought about seeing so much leftover resin.") LOL!

Saw this recently, the idea of making molds for creating something has always interested me. I've recently been thinking about doing something like this myself, wanting to make my own minifigures, but I don't have much of a workspace to do something like this, maybe some time in the future. Also I love that this is being done with Stikfas, those were always cool figure, but the material they used to make the was always terrible. Kind of wish they had a revival with better materials now.

Great job, but if I may suggest; bend the ends of a dinner fork ( the prongs) 90 degrees. Drill a hole in the handle and mount the fork to a desk or large block of wood. Then once you have the first couple of rows of starter cuts in the mold you can use the bent fork ends to hold the mold on one side. Now you have an extra hand helping you out. I was a jeweler, and that is how I cut my molds.

As always, great video Robert, your channel is an amazing mine of information ! It would be amazing if you could do a vid about how to make inclusion of magnets during the casting process. For example, to firmly join a separate arm to a bust with a statue. It would be important not to use superglue but insert the magnets inside the cast. If you have time and find this idea interesting, it would be great. Anyway, thank you for all your vids !

I would love to see more of these examples of molds and casts. I tried to make a mold of a Xevoz figure a few years back with some success. I made a two part mold for every individual piece, however, i still have some issues and it takes a long time. Same thing for the stikfas figures. I have the pieces, but not the sprues. How would you mold the individual pieces of a Xevoz or Stikfas more efficiently? Could you make your own sprue? How would you cast them? The two part mold i made of the Xevoz figure, "Skull Jack", even with some small vents, it was getting a few bubbles.
@RobertTolone
2 жыл бұрын
If the parts are no longer on the original sprues I would be inclined to do a one-piece cut mold where a bunch of the parts are cast in a single mold. In fact I am working on exactly that project for a video that should be out in December.
@machineman6498
2 жыл бұрын
You picked the best figure to do that with. Only 2 piece and welded part might have been the chest. I tried the same but never got the venting right. Plus had a weak resin.
@bitmap_jack
2 жыл бұрын
Hoping some can help. So I cast my figure pieces in polyurethane resin. Now what’s the best adhesive to glue arms to torso etc… although my parts have “keys” I still like to glue them down. Hot glue seems to be less powerful, how about just good old super glue? I also have 2 part gorilla epoxy glue which I’ve not used yet but seems like the most sensible option.
@arichutfles
2 жыл бұрын
For small parts or small jobs, I use Loctite "Bonding System." The two part epoxy that you have a marker like applicator for the first part and a tube of gel for the second. For bigger jobs or parts that I need a stronger bond, I use the JB Weld ClearWeld that has the two parts of the epoxy in a dual syringe that dispenses both tubes at the same time and then you stir them together. With the ClearWeld, I let it set for a few minutes before I start using it so it's not so runny. I only use super glue for temporary bonds like creating sprues and such. But that's just what I've found from trial and error. Other's might have better recommendations.
@bitmap_jack
2 жыл бұрын
@@arichutfles brilliant Aric thanks! Yeah it’s a 2 part dual syringe epoxy I have 👍🏻. I’d say the parts are pretty big. Certainly not miniatures , more like scale models. Figurines around 8 inches tall. Some of the torsos and heads are heavy solid polyurethane resin. I have a feeling the 2 part epoxy will work 👍🏻

Well, I'm a little late to the party here, but I do a podcast with Crafsman on 'Craft Pod 13.' If you look up the latest episode (episode 6) you will hear us saying some very nice things about you at around 14:20. Clamping the box frame together for waxing the edges = Brilliant! Also, pre-painting the silicone (which I always forget that I can do) = Brilliant! Nice gasket! The end mold really came out beautiful and judging from Crafsman's video, it works perfectly (even though his pour looked like a bloody zombie attack!). : ) Amazing work as usual, sir!
