Another great video in the bag. I sub to well over 100 channels but speed academy is one of only 4 I look for new videos every time come over to U tube. What I like is that you build for the most part accessible cars and capture the comaraderie and friendship/bonding of car guys. This is a lot like the atmosphere when I and my buds Stabbed the engine and trans back in my 91 Firebird. We all forget about aches And pains, and were 20-30-40 something again instead of almost 60. Still chasing the dream. Even thoe cold concrete never warms up in the winter time no matter how long you lay on it. You still get down there to work the jack and guide the tailshaft of the tranny, hookup the lines & linkage. Then you realize its well after midnight and you can't fire open headers at that time , even with the garage door closed. I said you might feel more like a your younger self but now your a lot less crazy. So you start put things away and making plans to start it at a time everyone can make; after all cold cheap food & beer even among friends will only get you so far. We all know the real payoff is hearing that baby bark/roar. So it will only happen when all parties are present. That's bedrock of carguy brocode among the fat farts any way. P.S. Old age guile & craft will win out over youth and enthusiasim every time. Besides young people have attention span of a nat just wait a minute and they'll be gone and you can do it your way, the right way. HA!HA!

+lonewolf5460 every head job I've seen without going to the machine shop has been a max 40k mile head gasket. Sure it'll run damn fine for awhile but it's not a risk worth taking nor will it last nearly as long. Idk about your area but it's $60 a head at my local machine shop. Monetarily that seems worth the piece of mind at the very least if not the almost guaranteed extension of the life of that gasket, but I do understand if lets say you have to get the car performing within a certain time frame or you don't plan on keeping the motor together long. I'm just going by what I learned in tech school and out in the field.

quickly torquing is called snap torquing, and actually you end up clicking before spec so definitely definitely continue torquing slow and steady.
@robmancini149

Hey PT, just a little tip to not work so hard: when your torquing things down, you use more effort pulling it up then pushing it down. If you moved the torque wrench 180 degrees from where you work torquing you could've torqued the flywheel and pressure plate in a matter of minutes

As a huge fan of yours, I do agree a different approach should be taken with the music. While the music doesn't need to go away, I do think that the music could be a little quieter, and maybe the soundtrack varied a little bit more. I do understand that the licensing for the music does cost money, but I think the payoff of viewer appreciation will be worth it in the long run. Just my 2 cents of course, but I think the channel rocks regardless of that.

Working on the SR with the view of the e28 nose behind, perfect workshop ! Japanese and german stuff all around it looks great imo About tightening torques, if I remember correctly, Nissan workshop manuals give 2 values, the highest for tightening, and the lowest for control, honnestly I don't know if it's better to pull quicker or go slowly and wait for the click, to me as long as it clicks I'm okay with that, another pass with the control value from the manual or the last torque you applied to check everything and it's not gonna unbolt anyway, I use loctite on flywheel bolts too, a little drop doesn't hurt :D

By determine the right torque you have to consider the intender tightening method. And trust me, for the torque wrench method you put a decent factor for inaccuracy in. In most cases the technique discussions are kind of esoteric.

You are never supposed to use oil or any other compound such as the lock-tite on bolts unless it says in the torque specifications. The reason is that if you put oil or anything else on a bolt it reduces the amount of friction between the bolt and machine surface allowing the bolts to stretch with a lesser force applied. This can weaken the bolt from stretching in the threaded area and may break when under load. Test this out by welding nuts to a piece of metal, put different compounds on the bolt such as oil, locktite and neversease and torque to the same specification on each. Then measure how far the thread protrudes past the nut. Some applications require Torque To Yield, which is torquing to the point the bolt loses its elasticity. Anything on the bolt will bring it beyond this point. Just a heads up.
@SilverStackers

correct...use blue threadlocker on flywheel and pressure plate bolts. also torque slow, not super slow, but not regular tightening speed.

@MrDannyd9
8 жыл бұрын
your torqueing is fine, the only thing I was ever taught differently is: it needs to be one continuous movement, getting a click when you first start is no good because it takes more force to start the motion, so the torque spec could be off. So I back the bolt off slightly and repeat in one continuous controlled speed(neither super slow nor fast). Get em PT

Just an FYI. The reason brake cleaner is used over carb. is br. is designed to leave no chemical residue once it evaporates, carb. not so much. Plus its less likely to harm any thing being less caustic , like seals dust boots ect. You actualy would be wise to use it on any new machine surface as all come with a coating of some kind to stop rust. Like new brake rotors/drums,ect. Clean is good and cheap. If you didn't have the time and money to do it the first time. YOU definately don't a secound. Ask me how I know??!!!
