Been weighing the idea of doing this myself, I had a hard time believing 5mm would make that big of a difference in pedal strikes. Glad to hear it helped out, maybe I'll give it a go.

Yeah, it’s kinda subtle but real. I think it comes down to preferences.

I think you've convinced me to do the same. I was happy with 175 cranks on my last bike, but the lower BB on my new bike has me wanting more pedal to ground clearance.

I am looking at going down to a DUB 165mm crankset on my plus hardtail. It currently has 175mm cranks, but I have heard of the added benefits of helping with keeping your hip flexers more open. My main reason is the same as yours, less pedal strikes

I’d say give it a try. I prefer the “spinning” feeling especially on longer climby rides. I know longer cranks are supposed to allow more torque but studies I’ve heard quoted don’t bear that out on a geared bike. I like faster cadence for less fatigue😁

Just the video I was looking for. Thank you! Just purchased a bike that has a BB92 with 24mm, and I want to 30mm, carbon 170mm and direct mount for the AB oval 30T (I'm a huge fan of AB Ovals because I spend a lot of ride time climbing steep, technical trails and fire roads. One thing I noticed on your installation; you chose a press-fit that doesn't thread into itself, so it's possible to have a misalignment (not due to user installation, but due to imperfection in how the frame is built). When you did your free spin before hanging the chain, the cranks seemed pretty stiff in how they spun. I'm not trying to troll you, or put down your work. I was just wondering if you've found it to be an issue. I've been liking the BB's by Wheels Mfg, because they thread together and create their own alignment. But I'm no expert by any means.

Great video. I just changed to 165 mm on my road bike and my chain is not catching on the big ring. Are there any adjustments I missed?

Loosen the barrel adjuster for the front shifter, or cable is too tight or cable and housing dirty/dragging

Did the shorter crank arms give you less leverage /power on climbs?

No. With gears you just use an easier gear if needed

Hi , nice video I’m looking to do this as well. Did you notice any improvements climbing ?

I never felt the 175 mm cranks were excessively long but the 170 mm length allows me to turn over the pedals faster and smoother. I really like the way it climbs!

What crank length are you running now? Do you even know 😊? Why are you looking to change it?

I have been running 165mm cranks for 2 seasons. It allows me to run a lower dropper because it raises the lowest point when the pedals are down, and my hardtails have sub 300mm bb height, and it is a must. I get almost zero pedal strikes with the 165mm and proper technique.

@@s14tat Thanks. I'm 6' and have 175 now and want to try 165. I am building my son a bike and ordered 170 but now wondering if I should try 165. Decisions, decisions.
