It doesn't matter if overkill... The price tag itself kills the joy.

There's no doubt it's at the premium end of the market!

Man talk about taking the skill out of shifting. Imagine if you did this in moto. Shifting is such a huge skill to always be in the right gear to get max speed for clearing jump sections, hills, turns etc. same with MTB. Is it that hard to click the shifter? I see this, as being a solution for beginners, who probably climb in turbo mode in really high gears/wrong gears which wrecks the motor

I'm on the fence on this one. I have accepted wireless tech (seat droppers, fork adjusters, derailleurs), and even bought and fitted some of such tech onto my bike too. But this SRAM Eagle Powertrain is not selling it for me. I can't put my finger on why. But still, great eye-opening info from both of you nonetheless.

Currently riding a Jeffsy Uncaged 6 with no flight attendant and Sram X01 mechanical. Rides great. It's light and travels across the US fairly well for most trails. Never needs to be plugged in any further than what I'm writing about in the comment.

Kind of overkill. Just leave it to wireless. But you gotta start somewhere. So it’s still in its original infancy. Technology will change just like e bikes have !

The price is overkill enough for me but the bikes are nice

Calling a spade a spade 👍🏼. I would only disagree with the comment that the consumer want the biggest battery. Weight is more important to me. So you might say “Well you will have less range”. If i just rely on the battery yes thats true. But if i run that battery flat in turbo i get an aerobic workout, i can then remove my battery after 2-3hrs and have a 17kg analog bike and train anaerobically for as long as i want. Im not sure about other motors but the TQ motor powered off really has zero pedal resistance.

In the case of the SRAM motor, we were really impressed with the range of the smaller battery. We still think most consumers prioritise range over weight, whether that's the right decision or not. You may well be the first person we've come across that removes the battery to ride! But if it works for you then all power to you!

It's true that some consumers want the biggest battery available. That's why most manufacturers now have different sized batteries and different weight bikes to cater for different rider tastes. Not everyone goes out to have an aerobic or anaerobic workout like you. Some of us go to the gym for that, or do that in our home gyms. When I take out my bike, I just want to go exploring places all day. Only a big battery will achieve the range I want. And afterwards I can also do the gnarly stuff that others do too, without having to change the bike or the battery.

@@MBRmagazine thats the plan but not actually removed the battery yet. My gears are axs that run off the bike battery so just got the etap battery this week. Removing the big battery is optional.

If you have fight attendant and auto shift where is the riders skill? Just buy a simulator.

We get where you're coming from, but just because a rider is using Auto-Shift that doesn't make them unskilled. We were watching Remi Metailler riding his Propain Ekano2 the other day, and we wouldn't say Remi is lacking skills!
