This is one of the best videos of what is really going on here. When drag racing in the 1960's through the 1980's. I would stand on the big end and hear exactly what was going on. It paid off a few times. He hear things very differently at the other end. By the way, it was a Ford FE medium rise 428 motor with a ST10 4 speed that I was listening too...

My Dad's 67 Fairlane he had in the 60's just sold at the Mecum auction for $110,000. It was called Black Magic. He ran a 4 speed toploader back then. Back then they used to call automatics slush boxes, they weren't built that good back then I guess. Haha

FE ?,how do you get those rods and bearings to stay put,I had others machine and build my 428 scj, nothing but hard ache.I never cut corners, but I felt cheated by them. When I sold it the guy said it looked like someone switched the main caps, didn't mark them or ?I use to watch others have all the fun, well I spent the money and waited, only to have it break ,before I hardly drove it.First time shifting at 5000 after cam break in,oil change,it spin a bearing,I couldn't win.I think I was cursed for spending all my money I made .

Built 428s can have better results than a 427 when driving Detroit iron which isn't lightened. Especially when running an automatic stock c6. This is because of the longer stroke. I have a 428 scj that I built when I had a 67 Fairlane. It winds to 8000 RPM. Used 427 rockers, solid lifter (no roller) and valve spring tension exceeds the capacity of the Machine Shop spring tool. The tool bent while trying to remove springs. Has 13.5:1 TRWs and a tripower set up from a 406. Ran a 10.80 quarter with stock tires, c6 auto trans and 3.0:1 rear end(not a posi) I built the engine a 3rd time and put it in a 67 Cougar XR7 GT. I fabricated RamAir using a Cougar GTE scoop. Needs a posi rear end and gears. Does 80 MPH in first gear. Has an incredible sound--like the late 60s stock cars sounded, except maybe a little meaner.

You might have spun the bearing because engine temp was too low. My 428 will go well above 7000 RPM but it must be at operating temperature with the oil pressure displaying behaviors at idle that tell me the oil is hot enough to do high RPM

not going to get 390 to run that good without power adder, to be record holder it had to have stock block and that would of course be 427.

Ikr. While I personally hate the 67 and 68 ford steering wheels, I hate when people take a nice old big wheel from an old car and replace it with some junky tiny new one, looks so gross! My 63’ Fairlane has the original steering wheel and man is it gorgeous

Your not running Super stock in Rays class. He runs in the 8s. All he has is a true Thunderbolt. 427 2 4Barlles 4 speed really stiff gear. And he can pull his Dip Stick. Clean Oil. Not dirty or black.
