NEW YORK, May 18, 2018 - An extraordinary Korean ritual for the dead that cleanses the deceased spirit, assisting it on the way to the next life, Ssitkimkut involves singing, dancing, instrumental, and theatrical performances. The ritual encompasses poignant expressions of sadness and joy, as well as moments of levity. Asia Society first presented Ssitkimkut with the legendary shaman Park Byung-Chun in 1994. In this performance, the ritual is led by Park's daughter, Park Miouk, who is joined by some of Korea's foremost traditional artists and musicians. (1 hr., 56 min.)
