Finally! A video on the other St Andrews courses. Thank you for doing this! I played the Eden and New Course a few years ago when I was at St Andrews, and had an absolute blast! The Eden is still one of my favourite courses in the world!

Awesome! My wife and I played that course a bunch of years back now (time flying away from me) just on a whim. We planned a day in St. Andrew's on our trip around Scotland (from Canada) but did not count on playing golf. We didn't know about the other courses. We just wanted to see the old course and walk around and experience it. Luck would have it the sun was out and we couldn't resist trying to find some golf to play. We found a tee time on this course and rented clubs from the course. It wasn't the old course, but it was an experience of a lifetime.

Played the Eden course in 2012. I was on a sporting holiday from Australia & the way the club staff looked after us with clubs etc was awesome. Loved the course & spent time after having a bit of sightseeing on the old course & around the 1st & 18th taking heaps of pics. Finishing off in town for a well earned meal & some frothies at one of the many pubs.

A real eye opener Matt, I'd play those two courses, when a course is out of your price range there is no shame playing other courses.

I went to university up there and my parents retired there too (lucky for me!) so I've played all the courses quite a lot. I have always told people that the Eden is the hidden gem of the 7, particularly if you're a higher handicapper or if you just don't feel like being bullied by the Castle/New/Jubilee! The Old is in its own category though, for obvious reasons.

I was up at St Andrew’s when the Strathtyrum and Balgove were opened I found the Strathtyrum fun and great for practicing long irons off the tee. Course looks to have matured nicely since I left. My favourite course was the New Course followed by the Old then Jubilee. Had a blast at the St Andrew’s Links for 5 years, really improved my game.

In 2000 and 2001 I holidayed in St Andrew's both years. Played all the courses (pre kings barns era) and the jubilee was by far my favourite to play and then the New. There isn't a bad course amongst them tho

I literally just came back from St.Andrews - weather was fantastic - played the Jubilee and the Old both in great condition - have played the Eden before which I love but not The Strath - such a wonderful place - had 38 points round The Old and played the last 7 holes in one over - it’s a thrilling place to play golf

Eden course is a nice fun course. A bit more forgiving but definitely worth playing. It actually has a nice vibe to it because it has its own clubhouse. New and Jubilee are great courses as well.

Matt a great video. To many just focus on the Old course and even though I knew there were different courses up there I never seen anyone do a vlog like this one 🥰 How about a couple of similar looks at courses around the North west of England where all the courses like Birkdale, Hillside, Fairhaven, etc are all well over the £100 range. Maybe a mini series of £75 and under. Regards Col

Thank you, Matt! For me, who lives in Sweden, and wants to one day visit GB to play golf around, this type of video is invaluable. Far too little of a vlog about this. Know that Finch has released similar ones a couple of years ago, but I am one who really wants to get suggestions for hidden "diamonds" that are also affordable!

What is also not well know is that there is the balgove which is a beginners course. It is short 9 holes and is intended for new players. We took our little granddaughter on there and she loved it. No one pushing you because you are warned play maybe slow. Really good idea.

That 1st hole at the Eden used to be a nice par 3. The old clubhouse is the golfino shop behind the Old Course Hotel. Changes were made to add length to the road hole and build the new practice facilities

Be fair - the old 1st and 18th on the Eden were poor holes. But the 2nd was one of the best with the railway all down the right side. You then had to cross a full size railway bridge to get to the short 3rd hole... now extended as the 1st on the Eden, played to the same green.

The Eden is my favourite golf course anywhere (and I have played over 300) because I played it at school and now, nearly 70, I play there most weeks. And do try the New next time you are up at St Andrews - its a step up again with many quality holes.

In September 2019 I played at the course just outside St. Andrews not far from the Fairmont Hotel. I was on vacation but did not plan on playing at all. However, when I arrived in St. Andrews I could not resist, so I rented some clubs and set out. Unfortunately on that day, I was stood up by the threesome assigned to play with me. They left me standing on the first tee after I introduced myself, and to this day I really don't know why. They were Scots, and I suspect that they thought I was American (it was during the Solheim Cup being played at nearby Gleneagles). While they began walking toward the fairway after teeing off, one of them asked how long I had been there 'from America'. I immediate clarified that I was Canadian and that my Mother was born in Inverness. His face went blank and he quickly caught up with the other two. Such was my first taste of Scottish golf. In any case, on that day the wind was blowing so hard that even the locals were talking about it. Despite playing alone, I made the best of the circumstances. However, my trolley was blown over three times! Eventually I packed things in after 11 holes and went back to the clubhouse. That said, I look forward to going back. However, I will bring my own playing partners! LOL

Matt, after becoming a Mizuno guy like your boy Peter, so you feel betrayed he left you solo for titleist? I have both mizuno irons and and titleist irons and drivers. I wouldn’t give up my mizuno irons for a million dollars. I have the mizuno mp20 irons. I am currently playing a titleist tp3 driver extended 2” with a custom x-stiff shaft and lower weighting with and lower weight in the head for a fade bias. I thought about extending my sim driver or tsi3 driver the same length but like the weight bias change the t3 offered more. I have never hit a driver longer or straighter than that t3. I’m almost 6’6 and have back issues. So, the long driver and irons really help with distance and accuracy.

Yes. My wife and I played there on vacation. We aren't handicap golfers, but know how to play. I usually shoot in the 90s and my wife is usually over 110 probably. They didn't even ask. We rented clubs and everything as we didn't expect to play, but just walk about. (Didn't really know about all the other courses before going either)
