Experience:
St Ives is a beautiful town. I chose to park in the station car park. I know there is a very large car park at the top with a shuttle service but I wasnt aware of any wheelchair accessible buses. I may be wrong. Also I have decided once to electric wheelchair down into the town which is not easy but can be done. You will need excellent batters and have a good all terrain if you were thinking about it.
The car park when you come out of it its very confusing and you are right in the way of the traffic coming in and out of the car park. The able bodied can just go down some steps and go along the nice walk beside the sea. I eventually found that if you carry on towards the platform there is a pathway to the right of it that slopes gentle down and left under the bridge and you can also connect with this pathway. This is not advertised and I have flagged it up and again hoping the town council will do something about it as the other way for me was so stressful. The way into the town without using the the special route has narrow pathways so my assistance dog had to go in the road, then we had to negotiate the enormous bins that took up the footpath were I also had to go on the road. Basically after that there was no footpath and the now cobbled road is your only choice. There is another carpark at the island car park which is right in the middle of everything and once you negotiate the driving through the narrow streets you have to do a hard left and try and turn into the street that leads you into the car park. Not an easy manoeuvre if you have a large vehicle
The views are stunning and I really loved going down the quiet roads along the waters front.
Watch out for the seagulls if you are eating outside. There are some lovely quirky shops but most of them arent wheelchair accessible and if you do manage to get in moving round inside is another matter
