Should we all just admit that Hugh Laurie is living his best life? First, famous comedian on two, hugely successful British shows. Second, wildly popular and loved dramatic actor. Third, tremendously talented musician. And he seems to be healthy, happily married, and have a great family. What a guy!

That is one of the best renditons of the song I have ever heard. The band is part of the secret. The man directing the band is the legendary and highly influential New Orleans musician/composer/record producer Allen Toussaint. Toussaint was one of the most influential people in the development of the New Orleans R&B sound, beginning in the 1950s. Look him up. You wil find a rich resource of music you will probably find very interesting. BTW - later in that concert, Laurie is joined by Tom Jones and New Orleans R&B singer Irma Thomas, the original artist of the song Time Is On My Side, which became a hit for the Rolling Stones.

Very, very close second to my favorite version of SJI. #1 goes to Jonah Jones, but only because I listened to his a gajillion times as a trumpet player trying to learn that style. We Americans know him as House, of course, who played a genius level intellect, who could do anything and see things none of the rest of us can, as average people. It wasn't an act, Hugh Laurie excels at everything he touches. That was a masterful arrangement, so tastefully done, and live, nonetheless. I'm sure there was some mastering and mixing done, to level it in places, but every person on that stage was killing it, the best recording engineer in the universe cannot make chicken salad out of chicken droppings.
