Opener has some real cinematic Blade Runner-esque atmosphere to it, but I agree that if there was more musical focus, for example following this and broken man, it would have maybe been more palatable. @@georgeandfriendsadventures5073 I respect your opinion, but sometimes the density of your materials doesn't always dictate the quality of your record as a whole. At least imo, she's taken the right decision to strip her music down and refrain slightly from pursuing even more complicated album ideas. Instead, she poignantly offset that restriction by taking the bold approach of putting together her material into a distinctive sounding album with emphasis on deliberate sonic contrast that's still able to materialize organically, w/out having to sacrifice its thematic coherence.

Okay so like, when Daddy’s Home came out and everyone responded to it with a collective “WTF…?” I was one of those people who was absolutely confused because to me, that album was a masterwork. And now, with All Born Screaming? I’m absolutely dumbfounded. This album is absolutely *incredible* in every way, from the production, arrangements, melodies, lyrics, engineering, playing… it’s such a fun and wild ride through all these different yet cohesive styles that all kind of work and blend well together in this messy and chaotic yet clean and polished piece of art that has my jaw on the floor. Watching the lil’ short films she made describing the making of the album really helped to illuminate this album for me… that story about the idea for the “scratching” sound in “Flea,” which was courtesy of her “friend”… aka TORI AMOS… is just priceless. 😊 Oh and I also thought the song about SOPHIE, and “that” line in particular was touching, poetic, bittersweet and beautiful. Idk why so many people just jump straight to the most disingenuous, worst way to interpret that lyric. One of my top albums of the year for sure.
