Nestled in the Khasi hills, ST. XAVIER’S UMOID is a Catholic-Jesuit educational effort located in the South West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya in northeast India.
St. Xavier's Umoid was established in 2018 and presently comprises of a Higher Secondary school and a College.
These institutions are sponsored and administered by the Society of Jesus (more commonly known as Jesuits) of the Kohima Region. The Jesuits are a religious Order within the Catholic Church and were established in 1540 by St. Ignatius of Loyola and a few companions.
St. Francis Xavier, after whom these institutions have been named, was a founding member of the Jesuits.
The Jesuits are known for their contribution in the field of education. In almost every country in the world Jesuit educational institutions can be found. They are best known for their academic excellence and all-round formation.
