Mid may I was hospitalized for a staph aureus infection with pneumonia for a week. Hen I was on antibiotics for a month. Then after antibiotics were done I started to loose about a pound per day for no apparent reason. It seems that the combo of sepsis and cancer may have triggered a muscle wasting disease called cancer cachexia. The cancer cells cause a change in metabolism that make the body prefer to break down muscle rather than fat for energy. It’s incurable but can be managed for some time. But once it reached the refractory stage, is just a matter of months because the body becomes too weak and heart or respiratory failure takes over. The goal now is to limit the weight loss as much as possible with increased protein and calorie intake. Let’s see how it goes.
