If you want to do a video pointing us to important videos you've done, I'm all for it. I love the resource you've put together here. You are very articulate in delivery and it's no wonder you were a teacher. You're still a great teacher and your videos get me excited to see my figs develop. There are just so many figs to collect. Need to open up more land, haha. Now you've got me wanting to pick up that Malta Black variety.

Thank you very much for the kind words, Mike! All I've ever strived for with my channel has been to share my experiences with my fellow Figsters and gardeners where ever they may be. It gives me great pleasure and an enormous amount of personal satisfaction that my videos are finally being noticed by more and more enthusiasts every day! Your comment, especially coming from an experienced gardener such as yourself, is very deeply appreciated! Warm regards! Lou Monti

Love your passion and appreciate your knowledge. I came over from Mike Kinkaid's channel after he shouted you out. I'm near Portland Oregon and figs in recent years are finally becoming more readily available and more well known here. It's slow going though. In last century there was an entire park here in the Willamette Valley dedicated to figs. Boy I'd love to see that again. How they lost favor just boggles my mind. I second Mike's request only would ask for a play list of videos you'd recommend for us. I'm subscribed and look forward to learning a I can. ~Patty~

I hear the fighter jets overhead. You're such a great narrator and so passionate about everything you do...you remind me so much of my dad...he just passed back in June.. and everything he did gardening wise or around the 8 acres we have was top notch...his lawn was better than any golf course.. Tomatoes plants( trees) 10+ feet tall...with leaf compost he would make every year.. but his most prized possession was the 12 in ground fig trees... Brown turkey, Italian purple ( or Grandpop's tree ) as he would call it.. because it was root stock from his grandfather's tree in Italy....all you older Italians were and still are Masters of the green thumb. Thank you for bringing back so many memories of my childhood with my dad and Grandpop's figs and garden. God Bless you and your family and please give a little hug to your sweet little Penny girl.. we have a 6 year old Toy Fox Terrier named Penny. Warm regards, Tom Del Casale Excavating

Im grateful that you are grateful! You are living my dream, and it hurts to see some of these guys walking around kinda blind to what they have. I am hopefully going to be a property owner this year, but everything seems so complicated. 52 hours a week harvesting vegetables in sun or snow but still cannot save money some checks. It seems you cant even work your tail off to achieve dreams anymore. Wish I was taught how to build credit and understand the basics of loans and how to go about filing taxes. Wise man knows there would be no joy without pain, these clips help me learn and keep me sane in the meantime. Your videos are lovely and I enjoy every second watching. Thank you.

Lou, congratulations on your collection, diversity of fig plants and, of course, for your care, otherwise they wouldn't be like this, beautiful and productive. I don't remember seeing in your videos, rust or other fungal diseases on fig leaves. Here, Brazil, I normally apply 0.8% Bordeaux syrup once every 20 to 30 days. In your case, what treatments or practices have you adopted to keep the leaves in green conditions, without diseases. Thanks for your attetion..

Hi, Clade! Honestly, I try to stay observant and furnish my figs with all of the care and nutritional requirements they need. I constantly strive with to maintain a very close relationship with all of my fruit trees and visit and spend time with them every day I can. While it's difficult to maintain 100 percent organic growing techniques, especially with my container figs, I've been very fortunate to be able to stay extremely close to that goal. I haven't used any commercial chemicals, of any kind, on my figs or other fruit trees, for any reason, for as long as I can remember! Selecting healthy genes, propagating healthy cuttings and Air Layers, and a lot of tender love and care, seems to have gone a very long way in my orchard! Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

Hey Lou! I’m a new fig collector, so your approach to finding reliable and practical varieties has been extremely helpful. You’ve mentioned that you don’t recommend Peter’s Honey in a container, but I’m wondering if there’s another honey fig that you’d recommend for container instead. Thanks!

Hi, Anthony! For Honey Figs, LSU Champagne, still better in the ground, is very good in a container. So is the Italian Honey Fig and Yellow Long Neck. Perhaps LSU Hollier, too. In my opinion, there's no need to go any further, but I'm sure there's a variety or two that I haven't tried that could be well suited for container growing, as well. Regards and good luck! Lou Monti

You are the first commenter I've come across that will acknowledge there is a difference in the taste or quality of a fig when it is grown in ground as opposed to containers. Most of them pretend it makes no difference, but experience tells us otherwise.

@loumonti10

Hi!!! Yes, figs certainly do grow very well in turkey! However, I'm not familiar with the exact location that you have referred to, and if the elevation is significant there, then the climate at that elevation could be too harsh for growing figs. Regards! Lou Monti

Hello! I am a brand new subscriber.. sent here from Mike Kincaid’s channel. I have a question. I have never grown fig trees and want to grow a Celeste (cause you brag on it so much) but I live in zone 6B in Kentucky. It got down to 4 degrees last winter. The nurseries say it’s hardy to zone 6 but when I read reviews from people who have purchased they say the winter killed their Celeste trees and that they are not as cold hardy as stated. I don’t want to make an investment if it will only end in disappointment. What are your thoughts?
@loumonti10
Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Well, to be honest, I don't have any personal experience with zone 6-B. However, celeste, in my opinion, is absolutely the most cold hardy fig I've ever grown. Still, in your zone, I would pick a suitable sweet spot (micro climate) next to a structure with a Sounth facing exposure. Also, like the Mount Etna's, there are many variant (slightly different) versions of Celeste. It's important to research them out and to select an excellent, cold hardy variation of Celeste, and one possessing all of the other remarkable traits of this amazing cultivar. Finally, I am a big believer in wrapping figs, for Winter protection, from zone 7-A and down. Good luck, and regards from, Lou Monti

@@loumonti10 I’m thinking the safe thing is to grow In a container. We could easily have a bad winter in a couple of years and kill the tree. Just not worth risking the heartache and disappointment. Honestly I am so weary of planting things just for them to die. Too expensive and way too much work. Thank you for your advice. 😁

Hi, there! I've never used heat in my greenhouse. I designed and built it to generate it's own heat, with nearly 6 thousand pounds of stone to retain some heat during the night. Soon, after my fig trees have ripened all of their fruit, I will place them outside to begin the dormancy process. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti
