Pro tip. Use a clear , smaller diameter hose so you can see the bubbles and when they stop. Waste less brake fluid that way 👌

0:47 sorry to nitpick here but this is good knowledge! All liquids are incompressible (theoretically anyway), so oil and water and hydraulic fluid all act the same in a hydraulic system. The reason we hate water in brakes and why its seen as compressible is that it boils at a relatively low temperature and turns into water vapor, wich is very compressible and leads to that mushy pedal.

Want to throw out there, since all forums seem to be wrong with this information, when doing an 2015-2017 STi brake swap with the Brembo's, the bleeding order is very different. According to the STIS Manual, the proper bleed order goes: Front R -> Front L -> Rear L -> Rear R. Always start with the inside first, to the outside since there's 2 bleeder valves per caliper.
@atticus6

I'm doing an STI Brembo swap on a 2011 WRX. Is this the same? I was under the impression I had to do Rear L, Rear Right, Front Left, Front Right because of the location of the ABS pump
@fritziepup

@@atticus6 I'm not sure if it's the same for that model year. I just followed the Subaru Tech manual (the way dealers do it), and that's the order it stated to do them in. I have the specific manual for my model year (2017).

Water doesnt compress either (liquids really). You COULD use water for brake fluids, but the issue is the boiling point is MUCH lower than brake fluid.
@Smeedia

Your right 😅 you can compress water slightly but significant pressure would be required but a braking system is no where near capable of generating enough pressure plus would only be a slight compression. I am curious on how long you could drive using water as your fluid 🤣

@@Smeedia I know what you mean about the twisting, I actually had to loosen and take off the line just to pre-twist it because of the bracket where it bolts to the suspension. @@Smeedia nope. the thing thats special about hydraulic fluid is viscosity, lubrication, oxidization, and other things. liquids are all (effectively) incompressible. you could use water in your brakes and they would behave about the same, till the system rusted out or seized or overheated or something else.

Good point. The issue is that brake fluid has a high boiling point and will not turn to vapor under the heat generated from compression. It’s about temperature / cavitation, not compressibility.

You can compress water slightly but the braking system would not generate near enough force to compress it. But under normal situations and circumstances it is non compressible. Regardless I agree with the point 😅
