Hey Tucker, good job! I‘m a paragliding pilot in Switzerland and I fly for the paragliding Swiss League. As we fly high aspect ratio gliders in difficult competition conditions we train full stalls a lot. I guess it’s the most important recovery maneuver to get your wing to fly again after a heavy collapse. We use a technique called ´acro stall’ and always follow this checklist: stall the wing and let it fold back 45 degrees, hands fully up until the glider starts moving forward in an open position, hands down to backfly, slowly bring your hands up, wait until the glider is in the front and then let it surge. Keep in mind: the Emily is a serious acro glider which can surge in a very dangerous manner if you mess up things. Be careful. :-) Safe flights!

Some thoughts on stalls. The entry was pretty good. As you get more experience you don't enter more slowly, you just enter less deeply. If you enter slowly then one side can break before the other, causing a spin, maybe riser twist, yuckiness. So enter quickly but once it breaks, go hands up a bit faster to find tail slide. Also, you probably know it started to spin on #2 because your hands were too high. When that happens, pull the hands back in and accept your new heading. It's a mistake to try to fix the heading to your original plan. You accept the new heading to avoid line twist rather than wrestle the wing. Good stuff Tucker.

I just bought an Emilie and love it. For heli it helped me to really focus on that inside brake position. Also, when I let up the outside I come right back down to light pressure for a moment and then release again. Doing that catches the outside tendency to dive and makes the heli start really flat. Nice work guys!

Stalling an airplane is super basic, but stalling a paramotor from what I've seen/heard/read is way more complicated. Props to you for learning how to do them, and practicing them.

Niiice Tucker!! If you let the wing sit on top of you and then you slowly add brake like you did, when it stalls it will fall back HARD (like you experienced). Next time, try entering the stall kinda from a pendulum, and try to enter the stall when your wing is a littlebit behind (like if you were like climbing a littlebit), that way, when the wing stalls, it will already be a littlebit behind you and it wont shoot back as hard as it did on this video. Hope this helps :D. Im a paramotor myself but i only did stalls without my motor. My next goal is to do it on my paramotor! Congraaatulations duude!!!

Some thoughts. In the freeflight world, stalls are basic/intermediate. They're a must learn if you're flying in strong mountain thermals. Some instructors won't sign you off on a p3 intermediate rating without going to an SIV and learning stalls. Heli's are difficult to learn but by no means are they the most difficult thing you can do on a paraglider. Just watch the much crazier things Theo De Blic does. Last, you don't need an acro glider to do heli's and stalls. Acro pro's highly suggest learning most acro maneuvers on a low/high B paraglider(non-reflex) since they're much safer.

When I was learning fixed wing, my instructor asked me if I wanted to stall. The official school policy was that we would not actually perform stalls, just learn about them. I told him I wanted to do it because I felt the only way to know I could recover was to do it. We flew away from the school, gained some altitude, and I stalled. I definitely felt more confidence after. Whenever I finally get paramotor training, I will definitely take advanced courses to learn how to recover in emergencies.

@@peteranderson037 I'm not certain. This was in the early 90s. Not sure if it changed or is the same. I never finished my license. I went as far as soloing and a few flights after that, then ran out of money and had to stop taking lessons. Never went back, one of my biggest regrets. Edit to add - it was a long time ago, I think I mis-remembered (is that a word?). I looked through my logbook and I see stalls in there, a few times. I think I'm confusing stalls with spins.
@peteranderson037
2 жыл бұрын
@@dougvillani I know that spins used to be part of the PTS but were dropped around that time because of some shenanigans that occurred with the Piper Tomahawk when used as a trainer. If you're feeling bad about not completing your license, you might be surprised to learn that your story is very common. I had to quit the first time when I was just a few lessons away from getting my check ride because I ran out of time and money. I tried again several years later, actually got my license, and then almost immediately stopped flying for 9 years because of a lack of time and money. I only started again last year only because I forced myself to find the time and money. Most of the people who start flying and make it all the way through on their first try are people who are going for their commercial rating. Most everyone else is like you and me.

You don't need to learn stalls at SIV. Everyone thinks SIV is the magic pill to making people a better pilot. This is not true. He even says the first time he stalled his wing was at an siv, and clearly it did not teach him anything. There is no replacement to a solid step by step progression. SIV is kind of the opposite of that (at least in the united states). People go up and pull on strings, skip steps, end up feeling like they learned something. In reality how many people do you know who post one SIV did more than a couple of stalls and then felt comfortable doing it by themselves? I am guessing that number is much less than 50 percent

in the paragliding world. stalling the wing is not the hardest move in siv course they learn you to do it. because it helps you to unfold cravat. the danger of stalling a wing is not the stall is the piloting after the stall if you don't break the shoot you will have massive collapse. for the wing, an emili peace is an acro wing the difference between this wing and the other one is the resistance to high force and the energy that the wing can gather (due to the long line ). i dont know if it the same for paramotor but in the paragliding world to start acro you just need a low B glider nothing more nothing less

I wonder if there is a way you could put a carbon fiber rods through the top and bottom of the air scoops along the arch of the wing so it can’t collapse. Just thinking out loud.
@niconico3907
2 жыл бұрын
Its pieces of fabric and strings it will always be able to collapse. The only way to stop it from being able to collapse is to replace the string by rigid rods. And that is called a hang glider not a paraglider. Some paragliders have one way air valves, so some parts of the wing can't deflate.
@niconico3907

@@idanghelber8282 so why did they start by heli and not tumbling? More pilots can do helis than tumblings.
@idanghelber8282
2 жыл бұрын
@@niconico3907 yes, most pilots do, but actually i know more than a few that have learned infinite before even knowing how to stall properly. This is because learning helis is the basics of many acro maneuvers and different connections. Learning helis will also help you in learning many other tricks while infinite is not as useful in that sense. For example Learning helis will help you learn mac twist and misy as well. You can also connect every maneuver back into a heli so it is a really logical thing to learn first. Another reason is that many people start of learning acro on a glider that does not have the energy to do infinite or to tumble but can heli. Learning tumbles and infinite is more committing and takes more "balls" than learning helis, but it is no where close to as technically demanding.
