A deadly disease, which threatened the lives of millions of people throughout Africa has been halted, thanks to a public private partnership consortium of veterinarians, doctors and Government agencies working together with private sector organizations.
The campaign to fight the crisis was entitled Stamp Out Sleeping Sickness and it included Ugandan government agencies and human medics working alongside researchers from Edinburgh University in Scotland and veterinarians from Makerere University in Uganda together with the global veterinary health group, Ceva Santé Animale and the venture philanthropy operated charity, IKARE, as supported by Ceva’s private equity investors at the time, IK Investment Partners.
The campaign resulted in a reduction of sleeping sickness year on year and, in the last 12 months the region was declared sleeping sickness free for the first time in over 100 years.
