Definitely recommend An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard. Standalone fantasy, kinda dark but it's a great world and the magic has consequences.

Thank you. These sound good. One of my favorites is Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams. The cast of characters are cats. Tailchaser goes looking for his missing friend and finds himself on an adventure that leads him into cat hell and back.

SCARLETT LOST IN THE FIVE LANDS by Rajendra Sarilla is the best fantasy book i have read this year. It can be considered as a stand alone since the author has not revealed any plans of a sequel although the ending hints for a sequel.

That's a great list, some I've read and love, some I've now added to my TBR list. Fun fact, my son and I, unknowing to us at the time, visited the town of Wall when they were filming the movie. We knew they were filming a movie, but not which one, and years later we were watching Stardust and were like "HEY!!! That's it!"

listen. "the priory of the orange tree" by samantha shannon is the best standalone fantasy book ever written because it has everything you could possibly want out of a fantasy: a diverse and fully fleshed out world that's introduced organically, a diverse cast of well rounded and complex characters, a slow burn f/f romance between one of the POV characters and another prominent female character, a gay POV character who's in his 60s (i can count on one hand the amount of gay characters over like, 35 ive come across in fiction), matriarchal and magical warrior societies, two different flavors of talking dragons, unique magic system, political intrigue which is actually intriguing, people behaving rationally in a crisis, and no sexism or homophobia in sight. absolute perfection. the book is 800 pages which i know isnt for everyone but for ME personally if samantha shannon wrote 10 more of these id buy every single one.

I read a stand alone fantasy book last month by Tad Williams.. It was an intriguing story, but I will NEVER read another 700 Page book in a long time.. In fact I will NEVER READ another Tad Williams book again.. So many unnecessary chapters.😤😠😡.. It was The War Of The Flowers... I wanted to DNF it at 566, but I had to know the ending so I finished it..🙄🙄😶😶😶...

I finished Lore but it wasn't up my expectations. I liked the beginning and end was good. I got bit bored in between. I don't know if it was because I had just finished acotar series before it or so that kindoff raised my expectations or what. But the good part was the plot keeps moving and isn't stagnant(Thank goodness)

I'm so nervous about Lore. It's on my tbr for at least a full year now, if not two. I was actually surprised when i realized that all this time I've been wanting to read it, it wasn't even out yet. And now I realized it's by the same author of The Darkest Minds which... wasn't a great book for me.
