Yes,I've got one of these too,great piece of kit,useful tip to get rid of an air bubble.is to place it on a window cill so it gets the warm direct sunlight,or placing it on a warm radiator can do the trick.

If you pop it out of the case, you can fill it through the intended filling hole by removing the screw. It's actually quite easy. I purchased 2 of these for a discount because they had large bubbles and refilled them.

Excellent. Just found one of these in the backseat of my Hilux. Cleaned out the shed of an old guy who was ex Army and Geologist last weekend. Must have fallen out of his old kit bags that were in the backseat. I better find a nice safe spot for it.

Not steel construction as that would interfere with compass function. I think those are either brass or aluminum.

The MK III prismatic compass bowl was filled purified paraffin. the G150 is filled with isopropanol. It's fairly straightforward to replace the fluid. I've done it for at least 20 of my customers..

Hi everyone!! Does anybody knows how to calibrate it? Is there any safe way to do it?
@spamcan2551
Жыл бұрын
Sorry, there is no way to "calibrate" it. You can, however set up a "compass rose" and check it ("swing" it, as we did for the An/AJB-7 Bombing and Navigation System Compass Adapter Compensator, on the F-105 Thud), against that, then record the error(s) on a compass correction card. Mind you, it'll take some time on your part, but you'll learn a lot about the earth's magnetic field, declination, variation, dip, etc. Have fun! But, since it won't be used inside/around/nearby, on any ferrous material or operating electrical circuits, I don't think it would be worth the bother other than establishing the fact that when pointing to magnetic north, it does, indeed, point to magnetic north. Cheers!

@@spamcan2551 thanks a lot for your comments...that was so complete. I agree with you that part of the journey is to learn. I originally thought there was a way to calibrate because Ive noticed a small hole in the back. My compass is a TG London MKIII with a 1941 inscription.thanks again

@@jphumani OK... I found a web sight of a watch repairer who restored a MKIII. I've it shows that there's a filler hole on the perimeter of the compass module. The hole you refer to, I suspect, is a vent hole to allow the compass module's fluid to expand or contract in response to atmospheric pressure and temperature changes. The base of the module appears to be a flexible diaphram... so ithe gap between the module and the case base allows some room for the diaphram to move un-obstructed. I've seen several compasses with this feature. Have fun!

Yes, but minimal and not to worry about it, unless you're going to wear it 24/7. Occasional exposure, no worries. Interesting documentary film on it called "The Tritium Girls" (I think that's the name).
