That will simply increase the number of particles vibrating and nothing else. So intensity of sound will decrease as the area of cross section increases and hence the loudness drops.

I absolutely do not understand. I've watched countless videos and still Idk wtf is going on. I'm just frustrated. Why do the particles have to follow simple harmonic motion in a flute?? Why can't they all just pass the other end?.
