The absence of Forsberg cant be understated. He was the best player in the league when healthy. And at that time it really wasnt that close for a few years. Shame injuries just kept taking his time away from us.
@jasonsmith5226
Жыл бұрын
Exactly correct...he missed the entire 2002 regular season,came back for playoffs,& led the NHL in scoring, despite Colorado losing in WCFs. Then he only won the Hart,& scoring title in 2003. I saw Nick Lindstrom say 1 time-years later-of course they respected Sakic,knew how great he was & everybody else...but after Roy-Forsberg was who they feared most,& knew they had to try to slow him down most of all. Obviously Sakic had much better health,& had the better"resume." But look at pts per game...not total points...Forsberg was as high as anybody,but a handful of players in history...higher than Sakic. And while it wasn't a dead puck era at the start of Peters career...it sure had turned into that,by about 1999. When the Hatchers,Matmichuks,& Marchments of the world were allowed to literally assault,& batter guys like Forsberg. They often couldn't catch Sakic,but Forsberg seeked out contact,& delivered it 1st. Part of the reason he got injured so often. He got traded for a future MVP,& lock HOFer,(Lindros...plus Quebec got a bunch of other shit)-but straight up-Forsberg was the best player in the trade,& it wasn't that close.

That third goal in game 7 by Joe Sakic is my favorite goal of all time. What a player he was. Also Ray Bourque finally getting it done, Sakic handing him the cup right away - still makes me speechless, such a great moment.

What a great time. Quick story: I was playing drums in a Denver band called Opie Gone Bad. We were tight with a lot of players on this team because our singer Jake sang all the national anthems and our band played at a lot of the home games to warm up the crowd. Between game 6 and 7 we had a show at Red Rocks. A bunch of guys on the team came with their wives and girlfriends to the gig to hang out and relax. Usually these NHL guys are bouncing off the walls and always ready to party. But that night they were quietly just sipping their beers and watching the show. I’d never seen these guys so serious. It even made me tense. And of course the next night we know what happened. After they won, our band played at the team party and I got to drink out of the Stanley Cup. I also remember Shjon Podein wore his uniform for 24 hours straight after the game and even went to a bunch of nightclubs in his gear. Skates and all. Denver was SO MUCH fun back then and that team is still legendary around here. Go Av’s! Peace!
