Gun collecting is an enduring passion, I must say. It's never dull and it never seems to tarnish or fade. And the connection to such awe inspiring history...

I used to carry the Star in 1975/76, i could strip and reassemble it blindfolded but I cannot remember how long it took. I used it at the shooting range all day long many times, never had a stoppage. I still use a Star model F target pistol sometimes.

I had a Star around 1973 or so. Fired 9mm luger. Well, when we are young we just trade-in guns to regret it later. Oddly, so many folks don't realize the interesting history of Star. They made this, similar to John Browning design, for the Spanish Army and to supply the German Army during WW II! Used by Germans close to the end of the war.

I've only put about 300 rounds through mine, but I've never had a failure of any kind ecept for some dud rounds (very old ammo). The duds seemed to be real duds--not light strikes.

I just wanted to tell you that I just inherited one of these in 9mm! It seems to be all original and in 9mmP as it says, I checked it before shooting it and it seems to indeed be 9x19. Funny how things work eh?

The firing pin removal is a bit of a pain. There's a pin that holds it in place, like in most handguns, but you have to drift the rear sight to the side enough for the pin to be removed. Then of course you have to reset the sight back. I could do a short vid of this, if you want, but the process is simple, if a bit quirky.

No hace falta echar la corredera un poco para atrás para girar el pestillo de desarme, simplemente quitar el cargador y el seguro y girar hacia delante el pestillo y ya sale la corredera.

Pulp fiction is the whole reason I got a star. information on them is difficult to come by, which sucks for trying to get it fully apart, so I can send it off for chrome.

I agree with you about the pricing,I have a Star Bm 9 and a PD 45 that I think are both great. If you need parts check out Jack First (google the name) he's old school and has for many years made replacement parts for guns he is the only place on this earth that I found that has the recoil buffer for the Star PD 45

Once you've gotten yours apart, the slide looks identical to my model B 9mm. I inherited this from my dad, who used his in Vietnam, and I've been looking for instructions on disassembly- specifically how to remove the firing pin and extractor. Everything I've found so far is demonstrated on a Colt 1911, and there is a retaining plate behind the firing pin. Mine doesn't have one. How do you get the firing pin and extractor out for cleaning?

Fiocchi makes non-+P 38 supers that shoot well in mine. Check Midwayusa for them. Price is decent. On the mags, I've found a few originals at guns shows--about the only place I've seen them. I have 4: all originals. They are pretty obvious--the largo is noticeably longer than the luger.

@bergoff Is that the STAR Model A-40? I believe that was a 9MM long (largo) like mine. As a note, I've not heard of such a good deal on the Stars in years--that's one of the best prices I've ever heard.

Do you know how to change the firing pin on the star 9mm ?
@MrEdgar49
12 жыл бұрын
@foughtwolf There were conversion kits made some time ago for the largos. You may need to do some hard looking for one. However, you should note that the 38 super shoots fine through these. I would suggest getting a stronger recoil spring from Wolf for the 38s, but after talking to some old hands who've put thousands of 38 supers through theirs, it seems they are OK. I've put about 300 rounds of the supers through mine with no visible effect.

Hello, I recently purchased a llama 'Extra' stamped 9 m/m 38 on the side of the frame. My question is which .38 super cartridge would you recommend I shoot. I don't want to risk damaging the weapon and I'm really put at ease by your comment above. Also what magazine do you recommend I pick up that will fit. I purchased a magazine because the gun came without one but will only load 9mm luger not 9mm largo. So I'm stuck w/ a box of largo, a magazine that loads luger and a thirst for .38 super.

While 38 super (auto) WILL shoot in the Star, it won't lock-up completely. The 38 super is a Semi-rimmed case, and the Largo is rimless. You will get some gas blow-back, and eventually damage your barrel. Also, the 38 Super is way too hot a cartridge for the poor old Spaniard to handle. The older 38 Auto (if you can find it!) is fine, though.

!!! Never dry fire a Star pistol ! You run a danger of breaking the fireing pin ,and they are not easy to find. If you have the S model, you are out of luck as they are not to be had anywhere.

Seems like now days you should have no problems have parts made? I see some of these tv shows like, Restoration, mechanic shows, where they can't buy parts, so they just have some machine make their parts right there on the spot, some of these machines have gone hight tec now, where it's so easy to have any part made, with that said, seems like someone could make some pretty good money making parts for old guns??

No need to make a whole video just for that. Unless you want to, of course. I'll most likely take it to a local gun shop and see if he knows about that particular gun. I looked at the rear sight and it doesn't look like it moves at all.
