I agree with your assessment Minion. There needs to be accountability and consequences for all game loops. The lack of accountability and consequences allows for bored players to grief when they are looking to watch the world burn. Now these systems won't eliminate everyone, but it may reduce it by 50%. Endstate is there needs to be systems for every loop that gives an invisible guiding hand towards a sustainable game for pirate and lawful players.

Grim hex should require rep to land and base here. And having rep may get you in but U must grind rep and pay dues [rent] to store ships, gear and hab at Hex. That would turn up the fun for all if CIG could make that one change make rep matter.

That would actually be great. Like imagine being robbed by a pirate, and he's like, "look man... I have debts to pay..." because they have to answer to the underworld authorities

@@JohnGrahamDoe and raises the interesting prospect of player driven Siege of Grimhex, pirates could gain additinal rep by defeating The Law, the Law gets to shoot pirates who, if busted, go to the organ banks, with the game equivalent of all pirate rep wiped out as your assets pass on to a relative. Should also be possible for a pirate to repent and gain Law rep > pirate rep to show he is now clean, but would you ever trust them to have your back out in the 'verse...

Absolutely agree with nearly everything, except not assigning blame on those players that are bored with what the game offers and choose to stay and grief instead of rightfully taking some time away from Star Citizen. No one is forcing them to take out their boredom and frustration out on other players that haven't hit that wall yet, it drives away new players and ultimately could impact the **seemingly** unstoppable funding bus.

Skins (and maybe armor) are a great way to give players something to do and give us away to show one aspect of our level of effort put in game! Make several moderately tough to acquire skins/armors, a few that are buyable in pledge store, and one or two every patch that are majorly difficult to earn!!! On the 'Pirates who are just waiting for pirating' blame issue; its not good to blame anyone in this matter but I would start by asking: 1) What did the miners and cargo haulers do before those mechanics were in the game? Did they spawn camp and try to kill any and everyone due to boredom? If no, or not for the most part, then its not really fair to give those 'pirates, waiting for pirating', an easy out of 'theyre just bored' Just my 2 cents... What I fear most is giving people this 'way out due to boredom' it will inadvertently give the toxic players, who have no real skill, or patience to gain the skill, to go up against other skilled players, and are lacking the will to do anything else in game, so instead they wait outside of stations to kill easy prey. (Ill take that statement back if there is a protocol (like in AC, with the flares/chaff) to enter into a fight, or a way or intent of seeking out a worthy opponent but I know there isnt) 2+ yrs ago, I wouldnt really worry about this, but now that big streamers from other games are pulling in new players, a sector of them will inevitably be the toxic player who gets their kicks from trolling others. I know you know the type... For true pirates, and/or PvP'rs, (and the new players who arent toxic trolls) who might get into scuffles in the PU as intended, but arent spending their time just trying to fuck with everyone else - as a gameplay loop, then I am very glad to have you in game and tbh we all need you, us really! We just need to be careful that in our advocacy of not calling pirates and pvp'rs 'griefers' we must be extremely vigilant that we dont give haven for the toxic types to plant their roots in claiming to be pirates, as is most likely going to be the case! Otherwise, I agree with what your saying and I always like your content!

Sorry new to your channel, Avid SC player and know your name - you just popped up on my algo, After watching vid love your passion for the game. Big changes in 3.18 for pirates if you know how to use them which you will. BTW I never consider someone who padrams a pirate - no excuse If a pirate has 'nothing to do' then he should show that in game by disrupting other players testing??? Questions Will most 'Pirates' be prepared to loot the ship they kill? Will most 'Pirates' be prepared to salvage the ship they kill or sell co-ords? Will most 'Pirates' be prepared to organise and become tactical? Will most 'Pirates' be prepared to sell booty for less than legal? Will most 'Pirates' be prepared to accept a surrender and give safe passage? Will most 'Pirates' be prepared to accept "If the Griefers have nothing better to do" ? Keep up the good work Sir

If a pirate has 'nothing to do' then he should show that in game by disrupting other players testing? AND will most 'Pirates' be prepared to accept "If the Griefers have nothing better to do" ? I would say NO excuse, for Grievers, because a True Pirate will not be a MMO Griever! A Griever loves to nerve/kill or troll other Gamer, that's his/her Core Gameplay some Troll/Griever have YT channels for this "strange" unsocial behavior. They don't realize that they destroy Alpha Test intentions -ageist the Alpha TOS. Griever destroy TIME from Player they are willing to test this Game :P And Trolls/Griever destroy REAL open PvP in MMOs, but they are egoistic or just dump to realize this.

Basic axiom of gaming is "my fun should not adversely affect your fun and vice versa". PvP isn't the problem, its lack of conswquences for law breaking. Prison is an occupational hazard that, jusdging by viideos, is quite practical to break form, the biggest hazard being server janks, not the idea that the authorities may have a rregular but random gaurd patrol in the area. Sentence time passes when offline, IMO a very soft decsion again reducing consequences for wrong doing. I like the idea of a rep system gating various things.

Someone in spectrum had the best response to this. I'll just sum it up. If player creates a game loop that traps another player (like that guy was stuck in the medbed respawn) and your only other option is to log out. Then you are breaking TOS. Sure the angry pirates are saying he could of gone along with their RP demands (i don't consider this a viable option if someone really doesn't want to play along, only leaves logging out) but the pirates could have broken the ship to soft death. So people need to ask themselves, is the player stuck to where they have to leave the game?

Lock components behind reputation, even now where basically A class military is the best (for most things). Lock them behind levels so people have to deal with starting with D or C tier and make it expensive to get B and even more so for A tier plus reputation building and let us be able to lose rep over time and lose components when we die and reset to stock

I’d halfway agree with your statement. For me, I’m a pvp guy. The idea of having a org hold major points on daymar and be at war with an org from yela and having planet wide conflicts, live, between actual people gets my blood pumping. However, we don’t have that yet. So whenever I play star citizen I try my hand at bounty hunting which sometimes works out and sometimes doesn’t. So then I try bunker missions, but those get repetitive and are buggy as hell. Mining is time consuming and boring, cargo hauling is just not for me. I try piracy but the idea of being constantly hunted, having to go through the process of removing crime rate, landing restrictions, etc just makes it more difficult. I get bored but I don’t result to being a nuisance. So I get bored but I don’t become a nuisance for others. I usually go play something else. Are there people who get off on pissing other off oh yes absolutely but this is the modern day and that’s common place. I’m not saying it’s right but it’s common. CIG needs to stop with the scope creep type of development and make something of this title. People also need to grow up and realize it’s a videogame. I’ve been stuck up leaving grim hex before, shot and killed multiple times and the fix? I find a different server. Love your vids btw. I’d do unholy things for a Corsair.

This boredom is because there isn't enough content in SC. Yes, the world they've built is massive, but the content is severely lacking. They need multiple forms of currency, such as karma, and hero points as well as hard currency like pirate gold, Banu bucks, etc. And you're right, the missions are lacking. Skins stuck. But given he good they're getting at some of these ships, once they turn their attention to the content I think it will explode, but that's a big hope that's possibly never going to be addressed.

@MadIIMike

CIG's fundamental issue with game design and development is that everything has to be perfect and because it's not perfect, it's "Tier 0" and stuck there till they figure out how to make it perfect. Then they move on to the next feature to put in in a placeholder fashion with no idea how it might work out and keep it at "tier 0" as well. Anything they ever get back to will be redone from scratch because the old "Tier 0" is different from the current vision. When it comes to piracy, CIG never had a solid plan/design to begin with. The only thing they had was the knowledge of it being something they could sell, even while selling the opposite to others (PVP Slider, if someone remembers). A lot of games put you in the role of a shady character to some degree. GTA being a prime example and look what it did to Saints Row when they tried a spin on making the cast relatable SJWs. SC would have lots of options in this regard. You could intercept communications with a Herald and sell it in another system, selling company secrets and what-not. You could smuggle alcohol like the Moonlighters during prohibition. You could even smuggle illegal medicine made without licenses to people in need. But nothing ever went this direction, it's always been "Pirates" vs. "Others". Interdiction, Snaring and so on all somewhat artificial means to enforce a direct confrontation between players along with the suble hint of each side better buying the FOTM combat ships for those confrontations. And who has ever played a open world pvp game on a large scale where this approach didn't turn players into total douchebags?

Where are the NPC cargo ships anyway? We're so many years into development and have been told time and time again that the majority of ships in the 'verse will be NPCs and still it's just combat ships and security force bots for the most part. At least we're seeing those Cutlasses land near the derelict sites for back up. They are starting to spawn a lot more empty ships between persistent player ships and just empty ships for salvage gameplay. Now that we have soft-death in the game it would be a great to start seeing NPC crewed Hull series, Caterpillars, and Starlifters flying around from station to station that we could intercept and experience fun piracy and boarding gameplay with - they could even be implemented along with escort missions for lawful players that would pit players against eachother in fighting over a juicy NPC target. IDK if it's a server meshing issue but it's about time that we had more NPCs both in the form of non-combat ships as well as NPC crewmen who can man turrets.

Pad ramming shouldn't be a thing, because flying around a station recklessly shouldn't be a thing. Big stations, starports etc. should all have ATC that gives precise instructions to ships. Players who don't follow those instructions should have AI fighters on their ass before they can even ram a pad. If player disregards ATC instructions AND they crash AND another ship that was following ATC instructions is destroyed in the process, it's _instantly 100% obvious who's at fault, and moderation response can be flawlessly automated: insurance void and respawn in jail._ It's really that simple: implement proper fucking ATC. Not just "request landing", anything that approaches certain distance from the station should get ATC instructions. There's no avoiding chaos without it. It's immersion breaking to have people do whatever the fuck they want in crowded, high traffic space. "Muh player freedom" doesn't work when it actively removes freedom from players who just want to play the game normally. Every ship movement in a spawn space like this, departure, landing, landing abort, even flying through, everything should be paired with a path clearly drawn on hud that the player is supposed to follow if they don't want to fight the station defenses.
@hawkofthereborn43

One solution I've thought of is simple. And it goes a little like this: Prison time will NOT countdown unless you're in the game and in a server, actively doing prison gameplay things. NO alts can be allowed, ONE(1) copy/account per person, that'll stop the merit farming and by proxy, stop the invalidation of the entire prison aspect of the game as the offending player is out of prison in less than 5 minutes. Problem is, it cannot work right now, as the issues of non-criminal players just ending up in prison for no reason at any given time due to BS bugs or other shenanigans EDIT: Griefers don't grief because boredom. Never forget one of the primary rules of the internet; meaning that everybody is anonymous, and if you do or say something that may or may not be socially acceptable...what're they gonna do, ban you? That's not a consequence, not even close. No. They do it because they know they can get away with being a reprehensible reject and nothing will ever be done to make them face the consequences. Do that in real life, and you might just wake up in a hospital, if you're lucky to be alive. Games like SC have NO real meaningful consquences. Just more like glorified "forced 5 minute break" if anything. If you're bored, why the fuck you still on the thing that's boring. Are you insane?

If a pirate has "nothing to do", then he should show that in the game by disturbing and interrupting other players in their testing plans? Because just for fun? Btw, this is against the PU Alpha TOS, from time to time CiG just has to ban these antisocial people for some days / weeks, that's my answer for this today. I would say NO excuse, for Griever, because a real pirate or a real PvP player, will not be a MMO Griever! A Griever loves to annoy, kill or troll other gamers, that is his/her core gameplay, some Troll/Grievers have YT channels for this "weird" anti-social behavior! They don't realize they are destroying the intentions of the Alpha test - "They Rage ageist the Alpha TOS". Grievers are destroying TIME of players willing to test this alpha game :P Trolls/Grievers are destroying REAL open PvP in MMOs, but they are selfish or just very stupid to realize this. Do you want to be a real pirate @Minisoldier ? Then be one, choose the right side - because we like to test this game! I will not give my test time for people while they have their boring time. -Is that so? I disagree with your take on why players grief. I’ve been bored out of my mind in MMOs before (usually shortly before I quit), but I don’t grief. Because I’m not an inconsiderate little shit. Griefers have a mindset where they are so up their own asses they are inside out. They should never be catered to, ever, and should be banned outright. That being said, I do think piracy (which isn’t griefing, given proper mechanics) needs to be expanded upon greatly.

I’ve always found these kinds of debates to be ironic, SC is an open world sandbox that’s in an alpha state, there’s no hardcore written guidelines for the community to follow as for how you should play the game, but yet people somehow feel the need to tell other people how they need to play the game. Now do I think people who enjoy to grief for kicks need to go out and touch some grass yes but I don’t see where I or anyone else for that matter has the authority to tell them how they should play the damn game, yes people are annoying it’s life you just either choose to indulge in it and let it grow or just refuse to let it bother you and move on and that’s my 2 cents on the matter

I largely agree with your commentary, until you assert that it's not gankers' fault for acting like they do. There's plenty of ways to engage with the hundreds or missions in game (granted, they get dull after a while) other than being an a*hole towards others. So, while mechanics are very much lacking (including to curb these behaviors), bored players would be better off playing something else for a while rather than being nuisances. That said, pvp hot-spots are emerging and its a cure against boredom! SPK and JT2.1.

As a backer since 2013 i find these kind of video's rather boring to stay polite. You 5yr old space cadets buy a 25$ starter pack, get over-hyped, start dreaming and think you bought a finished product. Then after some years you start crying you just wasted some years of your life. Cause for some reason you missed all the warnings where they say it isnt... thats on you. And its time to re think your life. in my eyes this is the problem. Not griefers or bored people. But people that think they bought a finished game. If you like it or not its still far far from ready. Try to accept that and you shall shed less tears. Come back in another 12 years (maybe) you can score a finished product by then. More then 10 years i come and i go in the verse. And i am still amazed by the things they did accomplished over the years. And didnt cried once. Now i get to see all the new youtubers with the same fantasy i and many orhers had 10 years ago, getting a burn out on a buggy alpha and it is fucking tiresome. Worst yt algorithm ever
