I think this was one of the best citizencons not due to cool videos but the technology that is coming now. New flight model, Resource Management will change the game in extreme ways. Love it!

Nah - this was one of the worst actually. They spent 5-6 hours retelling us things we already knew were coming. Yeah they showed some of the close ups of the planets in Pyro (but 1.5 hours of showing off rocks - who cares). Things like reworking the flight mode - are not a surpise when they have not touched it in 5+ years and as they add in larger and different ships - no kidding the flight model needs to be chanegd to accommodate something other than single seat fighters. If you'd been paying attention to the development for the past 2.5 years most of what they peesented and showed off - they already told us. They literally did nothing but toss in filler for CitCon 2022. CIG is so focused on 3.18 > 4.0+Pyro release the content they tossed us for CitCon already ran through the wash a couple of times.

Well done recap. Not so sure about the modes I do hope that CIG will give MOD components special abilities to exceed design limits and basic function. And perhaps those mods will require missions to unlock or locate [blueprints] or gold sinks that cannot be claimed by insurance. Keep it Spicy.

Yep, it's like a Tabletop RPG. There are the basic rules, and it's the exceptions that cost you in terms of player options and money. I for one love the modes as it gives us back high speed travel. I just hope the transition back to SCM is quick as lightning so if we detect an incoming missile we can react fast to turn on our shields.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about with the skilling system, it's progression, it's realistic, having an advantage in your field is a badge that separates you as a veteran from the new comer! The idea that you want everyone to be a carbon copy of everyone else is dull, lame, and boring! And the idea of having a new comer being as effective as a veteran is lazy, stale, and unrewarding! To put it as Chris put it, "those are people that like to bitch about everything!"

I am a big fan of the new flight system. I had suggested this exact model on spectrum about 2 years ago. here I me hopping they read my post and got inspired. I hope that they also make it hard to get back into Quantum mode as people tend to try to escape when they are losing a fight .Also I hope they make it so you have to be fully stopped to Quantum travel and that any damage received interrupts Quantum travel. this will make it necessary for players to gain distance to escape. forcing fights . this will give escort ships a job by having to defend a big ship from smaller ones as escaping as it is possible now is harder for bigger ships.

so the combat's gotten even more spastic? great... I just want capital ships pummeling each other with broadsides. not constant spinning around a target like you're dancing. I want hitting your target to actually be satisfying, whereas if majority of the time you're just moving around each other it's annoying... Just let me see the target and shoot it.. God I wish I could get my money back from this project. I just wanted star wars dogfights.

Man I don’t like being negative on these things but man I don’t feel like they’re making SC an open world MMO anymore and rather turning it into just a more open world sq42, they say they want features and gameplay that isn’t combat but yet change the whole focus to only combat, now don’t get me wrong combat is fun and all but it’s not what everyone signed up for and I know we’ll have to actually have it in our hands but this is just an opinion of mine

Chris Roberts just doesn't seem to get the idea of "get a basic fun game together, push it out, THEN improve on it". This guy will being basically doing DLC for a game in alpha till the day he dies. This is getting ridiculous. An entire decade and we still don't even have 1 fully complete system, at this rate it will take 1000 years to get out the full 100 systems he promised us a decade ago. All this stuff is cool, but absolutely f'ing pointless. We don't even have SQ42 yet and doubt we will within the next 5 years. By the time SQ42 even comes out, there will already have been plenty of UE5 photorealistic games out and these graphics will be dated. Starfield is going to kill any interest in this game. Yet again, it takes a real studio to show Chris how its done.
@Lazirus951

I'm really impressed at how underwhelming AI looks in these videos that seem to showcase the "improvements". I'm replaying CP2077 and I really can't figure how AI in SC is so slow to react and can't at least try to catch up after so many years of development. This Citizencon has been really worrying for me about how bad and falling behind the game is: if you account for all the paramount features that were completely and utterly absent from discussion (server meshing, physics, interaction with the environment, decently fledged professions, a workable economy, etc.), we are left with just some eye candy and more useless vehicles to pour our money in. I mean: half of the vehicle park needs a total rework, BADLY: do we really need more crappy ships to powercreep what we already have in game, without any new gameplay to offer, or is it just greed from CIG to make us spend more and not caring about what we already invested in? I get this game need funding (500M and going), but where are the meat behind the smoke?!?
@skylergardner2792
2 жыл бұрын
The AI being slow is due to the servers literally being pushed to the max plus 10% to handle an entire solar system with fully generated planets, moons, space stations, and 100 plus players (and their ships). So, the AI are actually really competent outside of high pop servers or when it's just you and you're playing a single player experience (dev testing) or when SQ42 comes out. They plan to address this by implementing static server meshing and then dynamic server meshing which will offload the AI to a separate server and separate resources to available servers which increases performance etc. This is actually all pretty well-known information, but I can understand if you casually follow the progress and don't understand some of the intricacies involved.

Pml _"That's roughly 9 years of development time for Cyberpunk 2077, and there you have it! Nearly a decade is a long time to work on something, we hope it pays off for CD Projekt Red"_ 8/4/2021 G efinity sports 315 million, 5000 staff, over 9 years, whereas SC started with 110 in 2015 and even now only has 330 odd staff. CyberPunk didn't use procedural planets, and doesn't have flight sim physics. And that's before it was released and bombed, and was taken off Sony Shelves until a year later, so *exactly 10 years* for a playable game

Nice summary and eye candy! I tried watching some of the videos, but after listening 2 minutes of employees being just self-congratulatory that the 3rd rework of the flight systems that made SC ships work like ships in Freelancer (2003) + EVE online interception gank mechanics is "what they always wanted to make" - I just couldn't watch more of CitizenCon. I've been paying less and less attention to progress reports but when I check in, it feels like the goalposts (SQ42, Server Meshing and getting just one more of the 100 star systems) have moved even further away. No way SQ42 will even be remotely alpha ready in 2023 when key single player relevant features are far from complete (investigation and AI) and reworking flight and player and AI locomotion.

so... air battles are gonna slow down significantly due to speed reduction, meaning light fighters are getting a massive nerf compared to big heavy ships since they are already slow anyway, now if light ships (gladius in the video) have around 250-300 max speed, whats gonna be the max speed for heavier ships? 50? might as well walk to the battlefield... long story short, meta is gonna be massive heavy ships with a shit ton of missiles cause nobody its gonna be able to dodge them anymore... error 404 skill not found.

That's all good and well, I look forward to seeing these things. How about they slow down and concentrate on fixing the two dozen bugs that make the game almost unplayable. I don't think anyone except the investors would be upset if the developers halted R&D for a month or two and everyone concentrated on making the game more playable.
