I had carried the Star BKS Starlight 9mm for many years. Now I am happy to have the Firestar Starvell model 40 in .40 S &W as a back up for my home defense. I always liked the Star pistols. I think they are better than the Llama and Astra, Spanish guns.

I have the 9mm version. I LOVE the grips on this gun! They are rubber and make for an excellent hold. It just feels good in your hand. The gun was given to me by my dad, who no longer had a need for it. Unfortunately, the safety plunger is broken, so the safety is WAY too easy to move to the "fire" position. Until I can track down a part to fix the safety, it'll remain at the house. The bore axis is a bit high, so it has a decent muzzle flip, but is still enjoyable to shoot. I have no complaints on the trigger...very close to an average 1911. Thanks for posting your video!

You can use a very small Ball from a 12 gauge shotgun shell (Like a bird shot). If you lose the spring for the safety lever, you can use a AR15 spring from the takedowns or other AR15 Lower springs that are very skinny. You may have to cut the spring down some, but keep it long enough for the ball to sit on it.

When I was 14 I read about the Star 30m participating in the army trials and loved story and the look. I asked my dad to get one, and I remember going to pick it up at the gunstore for $250 new. They had the firestars there in the display case and that image stayed burned into head. Ended up getting a used m40 maybe ten years later also for $250 and still carry it occasionally. Both are great guns.

Carried the M40 Firestar. Absolutely loved it in 40. Most accurate pistol i ever shot. Would shoot circles around my 1911. Never thought a 3.1" auto pistol could be that accurate. Years of shooting the blued M40 only issue is the barrel hood started peening. Guess the barrel metal was softer than should be.

I bought one of the 45 in blue when it came out and carried it for years. I sold it to a friend because I wanted the p 12 which was a piece of junk. I ended up buying the gun back from my friend and carried it for a few more years till I switched to the glock 27. I still have the firestar and keep it as a backup gun. It is heavy but that makes it a lot more pleasurable to shoot than say the AMC backup which is just no fun to shoot.

Love them Star Firestars! My first firearm was actually the M43 9mm Firestar in Starvel finish just like yours and they sold it a few years later. Then after, I managed to pick up a blued M43 Firestar which my nephew liked so much and gave it to him. Kicked myself ever since I sold my very first firearm which was the Starvel M43 Firestar. Guy wanted cash fast to buy a rifle he was oogling and I jumped on it not knowing much about the guns. Love it, fun to shoot, fun to take apart compared to the plastic fantastics I own, and just overall quality feel about it. +alwyslrng All you need is the .40 barrel, recoil spring, and slide and you are good to go. The 9mm/40 S&W frames are identical, as are the magazines. Check ebay, Gunbroker etc for Firestar parts kits. Besides the parts you need for caliber conversion, you will get the other hard to find parts needed to keep your Firestar running, although they are very rugged! Typically at $100 or less. Such a deal!

The place where I work doesn`t permit weapons. So most days I don`t carry anything. When I can carry, it depends on what I`m doing and how I dress. When I can wear a jacket, I`ll carry a 1911, a small revolver, or the 40 Firestar. I like heavy guns. If I can only manage a pocket gun, I`ll go with the NAA Gaurdian .32acp. The little 32 isn`t much, but as they say, the little gun you have with you is worth more than the big gun you left at home.

I agree, comfy and great shooting guns. I'm also a big fan of the B, BM and Super B models. Luckily most of the Star models except for the very last ones done under the "Astar" company name were produced in large numbers and there are still parts to be found. I already tried that several years ago. The barrels do not interchange. At least on mine. If some people claim that they do, it may be that there were some changes made during production. Might depend on when the guns and or parts were made.
@rogerselover2457
7 жыл бұрын
The barrels do not "interchange". I.E. you cannot swap out a 9mm barrel alone and put it in a .40 slide. BUT you can remove the entire slide, barrel, recoil spring from a .40 cal and place it on a 9mm frame, and visa versa The beauty in this is that you can purchase the slides, barrels, springs on GunBroker or eBay for a song and thus have two pistols, 9mm and .40. Also pairing a Starvel slide with a blued frame (or vice versa) looks gorgeous. The magazines themselves appear to be identical regardless the caliber marked on them.
