What is this taped music of which you speak??? A most interesting vessel. Completely ignores automatic doors
@seanabsher5577
3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, "taped" didn't mean it was played by tape. In the 1960s, the concept of a computer relying on data storage other than 1) punch cards, 2) paper punch tape , or 3) reel to reel tapes was bordering on unheard of or impossible to imagine. When the show aired, the plastic covered cartridges they called tapes that stored data operated more likely as if they were hard drives or something akin to sd cards... But as much as technology has advanced since the 1960s now, imagine 200-250 years further into the future. That said, "back then" the terminology of "taped music" or "taped audio" was most often slang for recorded music or recorded audio, which, even on a CD or mp3 or any other digital format, the audio had to be recorded for it to exist in digital form. Comparing that to live performance (as described from an 1800s perspective) is enough clarity for the story in the scene.

Lincoln was a dab hand with a broadsword also. He was once challenged to a duel and as the aggrieved party, he chose broadsword. The other guy who'd challenged him promptly called off the duel and reconciled their disagreement. :)

This was a pretty awesome episode, gorn fight scene and all. Lincoln was always curious about all manner of invention. Anything that could improve the state of the union or end the war sooner was welcome. He was a very accessible President to the alarm of some concerned for his security. Each day if possible he entertained visitors. They came from far and wide, to see the great man, or to present their ideas, and he listened earnestly and defused tensions with his gentle humor or his back country analogies. He was open to ideas from every quarter, never pretending that he knew everything better, but using his best judgment and the best information he could gather to make decisions. A model leader, a great man.

And just food for thought. When Abe Lincoln was assassinated by Boothe, he was a Democrat. The Confederate South breaking away was orchestrated by Democrats who always wanted slavery. Even the KKK was created by the Democrats. The GOP (Republicans) were actually formed to combat slavery. This is a very good episode. The only problem with it is that, throughout, Kirk and his crew are acting on the assumption that the historical figures they are interacting with are mere illusions of some kind. Just here, Scotty says he originally locked on to something mineral but then, at the end, Kirk asks the alien what he offered their opponents had they won the contest and the alien responds, "What they wanted most, power." That means they were, somehow, real.

There are very few images of Lincoln, actually wearing that style of hat.

I love how Kirk never orders his security men to lower their weapons. Too bad he didn't follow protocol against Khan, TWICE.

Did he even survive this episode ? Wearing a red shirt often indicated an untimely, early demise.

Actually, Security Officer Dickerson is a sly, indirect reference by Roddenberry to Lincoln's personal bodyguard and companion between September 1862 and April 1863 (they shared a bed during the absences of Lincoln's wife), Captain David Derickson (he had a dick like a derrick), with whom some historians theorize (amply endowed are they with more than sufficient circumstantial evidence) Lincoln had a homosexual relationship.

This is because our schools have ceased to teach true history. Kids of today know more about the revisionist history, the romanticized stories, and the conspiracy theories.
