If you manage to stay in your seat during high levels of turbulence while everyone else flips around, then you're the only one who's captain material.

Probably it was William Shatner counting the lines James Doohan (Scotty) had, and used his status as the series lead to get the line that was spoken in the episode.

For this episode, they had Lt. Kyle (who's usually the transporter chief) as helmsman. Why couldn't they have him filling in for Sulu for the several episodes where George Takei was absent due to filming The Green Berets? Instead, they had Lt. Hadley as helmsman (as well as navigator in other episodes), who didn't even get a single line at all throughout TOS.

The seats on this ship are dangerous. Not attached to the deck, no seat belts. Only the Captains chair is bolted down. Only the TMP. Enterprise had arm rests that folded down to hold you in your seat when needed. They were also attached to the deck.

They used stock footage of the Enterprise in most episodes consisting of all 3 versions of the 11 foot model and the 3 foot model. The last time new footage was filmed of the 11 footer was for Space Seed or The trouble with Tribbles, I forget which.

The V-neck uniform of the Capt was probably a mistake. It looks too stylish and unprofessional. If the Capt had one, Uhuru and Yeoman Rand should have too, and they didn't. They experimented with the uniforms in the beginning then finally settled on a pro-looking appearance. Check out the collars in the first couple of episodes - real tacky.

The real world reason for the "Captain's Tunic" was in the first season episode "The Enemy Within" where Kirk is split into good and evil versions of himself, they needed a means for the audience to tell which version was which as the show cut to scenes of each one at different locations of the ship. The in universe reason was the Captain's Tunic was meant to be a more informal uniform of similar intent as the old US Army "Eisenhower Jacket" which was a shorter, more form fitting version of the standard US Army Officer's Olive Drab service jacket. It was business like but still a little more comfortable and relaxed in a sort of privilage of rank way.
