As a fellow movie/video maker and Star Trek enthusiast, I could dissect it and say that some things could be better, however I choose to celebrate the fact that this many people got together to do this project so well. Congratulations. I like it. I look forward to see more from you.

Well, wait until you see more, when the petty, insipid, pubescent dialog starts. Every scene between McCabe and Mara Onshul are so childish and pedestrian. It's like watching an episode of "Friends" in outer space. I'm interested in you, but won't show it...you're interested in me, but I'll duck and skirt and feign no interest until I'm ready. You'll keep pursuing and I'll keep evading...childish. Unless you're fascinated and entertained by this type of junior high school dialog, it's too much to take. Outside of that it's good enough. If they cut out every McCabe-Mara scene the story holds better. Guess writers want you to "relate" to the characters between chase scenes and photon torpedo bursts, but only know how to write boys chase girl, girl evades...girl shows interest, guy obfuscate private moment scripts! I wish they just stay focus on content off script and plot without the cheesy "romance" that they believe every private moment scene demands! But overall pretty good. I just skip past those scenes.

Some of the following may seem insulting, please, read the whole thing. Several years ago I happened to run across Star Trek The New Voyages ( AKA Phase II today) Come What May. Freaking loved it. No other eps were available at the time, so I went looking, and found Hidden Frontier. HF was somewhere around season 5 maybe(?) so I was looking forward to some good stuff. I couldn't get past halfway through season 2. I've heard some people say that it seriously improved after season 3. I couldn't bring myself to try. I watch Trek for the eye candy, and the jarring close shots and bad greenscreening in the beginning just pushed my frustration button too much. I found Operation Beta Shield a couple of days ago, and just got done watching it about 2 hours ago. I cringed when I realized it was the HF crew, but I gave it a chance. I just finished watching this one. I hereby offer my sincere Kudos to the cast and crew. Everything about this new series is light years ahead of HF: TEY. The CGI is vastly improved, the Greenscreening, though not perfect, has gotten pretty good for a non professional crew, both the scripting and the acting no longer seem stilted and under-rehearsed, and the Make Up has improved ten fold. Holding off on 1:02 until tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

OK, IMO, story: not bad. A little slow, plot needs to move along a bit faster, but it's alright. I might have cut or combined a few scenes in the writing and/or editing phase. VFX and compositing folks: REALLY need to work on matching the lighting on set to the lighting in the green screen backgrounds and evenly lighting things a bit more in general. Color correction is less than optimal in many shots. There is a bad case of the greens going around. This could also be due to the lighting. A trip to Home Depot and Walmart is called for here. Acting: about what one expects from a fan production, but not egregiously so. These are all the sort of things that tend to be gotten wrong on the first few episodes of fan films. I'm still willing to give the rest of the episodes a try, so we'll see what happens with those.

@fmlazar
9 жыл бұрын
David Tollefson The difference is that Air Force One is the designation given to any plane that the President happens to be on at the time. It doesn't actually have to be one of the planes outfitted for the purpose. It's a bit implausible to actually have a starship permanently designated as "Federation One" because the President doesn't normally travel off planet away from the Federation Council. That's what Ambassadors and Starship Captains are for.

The opening scene where it says "...from the distant Andromeda galaxy..." Sorry but not happening. At a distance of 2 million light years it would take an invasion force how long to get here?? Even at a maximum warp of 9.975....centuries of travel time. Let us not forget what Voyager discovered when they were sent to the Delta Quadrant which was only 70,000 light years. A life time to return to Starfleet and that at maximum warp. Concept is good but the premise...not so much.

You are working from a position of incomplete knowledge. The back story of the Andromeda situation is laid out in Star Trek Odyssey, another fan series by these same creators.
