First Contact is often regarded as one of the best Star Trek movies and I think, among many things, the music score is one of the reasons. It was something that I was humming long after the movie was over and the theme is one that I still hum to this day, 25 years later. It’s so majestic, serene, melancholic all in one lol.

Gotta love how the film ends on that beautiful note with Earth having made first contact with others, and Zefram Cochrane introducing the Vulcans to tequila and rock n' roll, but they remain emotionless as ever. It gives us that amusing and endearing sense of how they have a LOT to learn about each other, but we can smile, knowing that all that will come in good time, and eventually, we'll achieve world peace and the founding of the Federation to establish greater peace and unity in the galaxy, all thanks to Cochrane's warp flight and that of the Enterprise, having saved their own future to return home.

I can't wait to introduce all this to my daughters at 4-5. I honestly think there is nothing more inspiring to an introvert than Star Trek and what it represents. Think about it; a quiet, shy, contemplative child's dreams nurtured by unbelievable ideas out side the box, ideas that have no place in society, but are very real and very possible. It becomes the drive that is relatively out of place in such a monotonous chaotic world. Fascinating....big ideas and higher sensibilities of a fictional future can shock a little brain or help it with its own confusions amongst the standard noise of the status quo. I still watch star trek to feel intense comfort to this day. Those crews honestly feel like family to me. When Picard says "Oh yes, I know you" I choke up everytime. I hope I get to say that to my daughters one day when they feel alone or not understood. I hope they feel wonder and awareness as Daddy does everyday and make the world I dreamt of real or at least push us closer to it.

"Space. The Final Frontier, these are the voyage's of the starship Enterprise. It's continuing mission to explore strange new world's. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before." This every time I hear it and the theme song it brings tears to my eyes with hope that maybe one day humanity will mature enough to let go of corporate and economical interests and push back into Exploration and Science to better ourselves as a race and show just what we can do when we are civilized

“There is a tide in the affairs of men Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat; And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose our ventures.” -William Shakespeare What a season, and what a finale to our beloved crew. Here's to Picard, and those who sailed with him.

Imagine a possible crossover movie ending like this. The young crew of Enterprise-A say their goodbyes to the TNG crew on board Enterprise-E, Spock and then Ambassador Jean Luc-Picard have one last private conversation, as Kirk watches from afar. Spock asks the former captain what he knew of his older Prime counterpart, who had passed away in their own timeline. Picard said that he was one of the greatest men, or Vulcan that he had ever known, and that the young Spock has a great legacy to live up to. Picard also reveals that Spock Prime had mind melded with him, sharing his thoughts and memories with his fellow Starfleet officer. When asked what he saw, Picard simply extended his hand and asked the young Vulcan to see for himself. Hesitantly, Spock puts his hand to Picard's head, and is flooded with visions and memories of his predecessor's life. From his childhood on Vulcan, to his graduation from Starfleet Academy, and of course, his adventures on board the Enterprise. Eventually culminating to his sacrifice to save the Enterprise from destruction at the hands of Khan. As an older Kirk watches his closest friend die from radiation exposure, he reveals his true feelings to the captain, saying "I have been, and always shall be, your friend. Live long, and prosper." before passing on. Spock recoils at the sight of this, but at the same time, remembers the shockingly similar circumstances that befell him and Kirk years before, only they were reversed. He now realizes what Spock Prime meant by "At great cost." As well as the bond between himself and Kirk, how they were always meant to be. More than just friends, but brothers. Picard puts a hand on Spock's shoulder, telling him to cherish each and every moment with Kirk as if they would be his last. For the day would come that one of them would have to make the ultimate sacrifice. They walk out into the hall, with Kirk standing eagerly, smiles abroad. Kirk asks his comrade what Picard showed him, only for him to reply, "Just what information was required, Captain." As they walk to the transporter room. As both men stand on the pad, they turn to Picard, who thanks them for ensuring a future for humanity. Kirk reassures him that it is Picard's crew who should have the credit, as it was they who traveled back to the past to stop the Borg. Picard chuckles, saying that it wasn't the first time. Kirk then nods to Spock telling him that he will stay behind for a minute to have a word with Picard, saying that they will meet again on the bridge of their own ship. "I understand, Captain." Spock agrees. He flips open his communicator and says, "Mr. Scott, do you read?" "Aye, Commander Spock, I hear ya. Shall I fire the ole gal up?" "That is affirmative lieutenant, one to beam up, energize." Spock and Picard deliver a Vulcan salute as he is beamed back aboard Enterprise-A. Kirk tells Picard that going back in time to change the past was cheating, mirroring the very words he spoke to Spock Prime. Picard laughs, reminding him that he himself is no stranger to breaking the rules. Kirk asks him where he goes from there, Picard tells him that during his career as captain of the Enterprise, he learned the all important truth, the sky's the limit. He tells Kirk to live life to the fullest, no matter what comes his way, and to know that deep down, his crew is his true family. Pondering the future ahead, Kirk is interrupted by Scotty, "Oy, Jim! Ye gonna stay there fer a pint or are we leaving without a captain ye daft bastard?!" Smiling, Kirk delivers a Vulcan salute of his own to his future successor, proclaiming, "Live long, and prosper." Picard returns his salute. Kirk responds to his communicator, "Beam me up, Scotty." As he is enveloped in transporter energy, and fades away, leaving Picard, smiling. Continued in part 2...
