That's an interesting comment. Did the Nomad/TonRu probe actually meet V'Ger? They both are identical in their mission and I get the notion they did indeed meet. They probably exchanged knowledge, a desire to return to the "creator" and found each other "kindred". Perhaps in Nomad's mind, V'Ger was sort of a god to it. Not it's creator, but a perfect being. Deus est Machina ....God IS the machine.

I love this scene🖖🏻 one of my favorite episodes in the Star Trek original series

This illustrates why Star Trek was so special. They could have easily made a simple episode about a terrifying killer robot, but instead they introduced a tragic element to Nomad and made it sympathetic.

There are a lot of sympathetic figures in og Star Trek. The sad issue is that most of the time, Kirk is kind of a dick

Star Trek was that good because it's cerebral and thought-provoking; not just "flash" like Star Wars - which I've tried to watch, but I just cant take seriously.

This scene and the mind meld scene with Dr. Van Gelder (Morgan Woodward) from Dagger of The Mind were two very powerful scenes from TOS.

Wish I knew how they did the effect of making Nomad look like it floats. The late Vic Perrin was Nomad’s voice. He also did the control voice on The Outer Limits and he was the Halkan leader in the episode Mirror Mirror. The Changeling is now my favorite episode from Amok Time.

This is a much cheaper version of the special effects extravaganza in the "Motion Picture" when spock mind melds with the alien possessed earth probe searching for its creator on Earth. Nimoy's great acting carries the scene here.

As a child this scene was very chilling - I remember lying in bed in the dark thinking about it in a very uneasy way🙂. Kirk's subsequent analogue of a "changeling child" made it all the more unnerving.

Just like Cole in Hour, the impression of reprogamming an entire species is actually a very, VERY long process. I'm actually quite content these days, given what I've been through. And what I still perceive to be unfair. The idea that I'm a cannon or a volcano about to go off is about as relevant as saying that Yellowstone is the size of Yogi's Picnic Basket.
