The colors were vivid. Those different jersey team colors when Star Trek TOS changed from black and white early episodes to color broadcast. Can't even remember the color TV look for anyother show on TV when the change happened.
The other great "Do something!" in cinema history was when Arnold Schwarzenegger's daughter said that as she was hanging off the nose of the Harrier jet that he was piloting with the terrorist hanging off the missile on the underside in True Lies. Schwarzenegger then fulfilled her demand with "You're fired" and fired the missile right into the helicopter carrying the other terrorists.

That was largely due to the show''s budgetary constraints. You couldn't have new incidental music for every episode; it would have cost too much. But since TOS was a one-hour weekly series, no one would bother themselves too much about the same music being used in different episodes from week to week.
@soylentteal

I didn't mind that a bit. Great music like Kaplan's *needed* to be used multiple times. His music is one of many reasons why "The Doomsday Machine" is my favorite episode. That was one of the only episodes with a score written specifically for it.

@@OpusBuddly They say Star Trek broke through a lot of "Social Borders" and addressed many Racial issues of the 1960s as well as their Taboos from that time. Often, they point to the kiss between Kirk and Uhura since it was the first on-screen kiss between a Black Woman and a White man. One that is often left out is the fact they had an Irish man playing a Scottish Man. Back then and even to this day, if you were to call an Irish man a Scottish man or vice versa, it would be a pretty large insult LOL.

scenes like this remind me how monumentally idiotic it's been, since 2009, to recast other actors in these iconic roles. the original series was a miracle of dramatic chemistry, as clips like this make abundantly clear. these guys were so amazing, the characters they created, and the complex relationships between them. to suggest that somebody can just walk into the role from central casting and *be* kirk, spock, mccoy, scotty et al is beyond ludicrous to me. much, much better to create new characters and eras (as TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT did) in the trek universe instead of trying recapture the lightning in a bottle that was the original show. TOS - often imitated, never replaced. :)

At least "Star Trek Continues" tried to keep Gene Roddenberry's original intent. I kinda liked it. I hated JJ Abrams version. I also hated what Disney and JJ Abrams did to Star Wars. @@OpusBuddly yeah, fan series are kind of a different thing - i mean, stuff like "star trek continues" is coming out of a place of love and respect the original show. not really my thing, but i don't fault them in any way for what they're doing. i saw that 2009 jar-jar POS exactly once so i could say i gave it a try. i was interested in "discovery" until iu found out that the whole thing retcons 50+ years of established trek continuity, and that was it for me. haven't seen an episode and never will. 80s/90s trek succeeded because each show was totally respectful of the original show and built their own unique corner of trek universe. nowadays, the aesthetic that (to me anyway) seems to be in place is that the original series is obsolete and needs to be "improved" upon with lens flares and anachronistically (in-universe) sophisticated technology. ENT showed (with "in a mirror darkly") the TOS-era technology could be believably depicted in a contemporary setting while still being totally respectful of what came before. the photos i have seen of the (so-called) Enterprise bridge for discovery are hilarious - more abrams-style apple-store technology that a.) is totally disrespectful of established continuity and b.) is going to look WAY more dated in about 5 years than the 50+years-old TOS trek tech does today. so tired of do-over (quotes intended) "star trek." so lame. perfection can't be improved upon. i wish the producers would just let go of do-over TOS-era trek and move on. maybe they can ruin the post-dominion war era too! ;)

@@euphorik6 As a fan since the '60s of course I saw the 2009 reboot and despised it from the opening scene. The actors were not in character at all. I skipped the 2nd one but watched the 3rd movie. Thankfully that film's director at least had the actors in character fairly well. I really liked ST:Enterprise and watched the series several times over the years. I was a huge fan of TNG up until the last season. I got tired of all the Worf/Dianna episodes and the Klingon episodes and I just lost interest in the show. I also got tired of DS9 after a few seasons even though some of the episodes were excellent. For some reason I never finished the whole Dominion wars arc even though I liked them. It probably had a lot to do with my work schedule and a broken VCR. Voyager was okay but I would have liked it better if Rick Berman had been given more control. It should have been more like his Battlestar Galactica reboot that he did a few years later, but that's just me. Let's forget that ST: Discovery even exists, okay?

Jayson Pida in a previous scene when the use of an antimatter bomb is first being discussed, Spock observes that the detonation (of only “an ounce” of antimatter; they should have used metric units but “28 grams” doesn’t sound as good) would “rip away most of the planet’s atmosphere”. I always figured the destruction of the planetary atmosphere produced the physical shock waves.
@baraxor
4 жыл бұрын
Previously, Spock stated that the antimatter explosion would rip away half the planet's atmosphere, presumably similar to a large meteoric impact. The gases and planetary material blown off the planet would have provided the "shockwave", which would have been intense since they wouldn't have been able to use battle-level deflector shields while the transporter was in operation.

I’ve got all the men out here with their weapons drawn.” We lost between 16-18 ICBMs (nuclear tipped Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles) at the same time UFOs were in the area… (A high-ranking Air Force officer) said, “Stop the investigation; do no more on this and do not write a final report. I heard that many of the guards that reported the incident were sent off to Vietnam." Captain Robert Salas, USAF, during a videotaped interview for the Disclosure program. "A few insiders know the truth...and are studying the bodies that have been discovered." -Dr. Edgar Mitchell Apollo 14..the 6th NASA employee to walk on the Moon. "Maximum security exists concerning the subject of UFOs.” CIA Director, Allen Dulles, 1955. "It's still classified above Top Secret." - Senator Barry Goldwater, 1975 “Behind the scenes, high-ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe that unknown flying objects are nonsense.” Former CIA Director, Roscoe Hillenkoetter, public statement, 1960. “We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false” -William Casey, CIA director, 1981 “Yes, there have been ET visitations. There have been crashed craft. There have been material and bodies recovered. There has been a certain amount of reverse engineering that has allowed some of these craft, or some components, to be duplicated. And there is some group of people that may or may not be associated with the government at this point that have this knowledge. They have been attempting to conceal this knowledge. People in high level government have very little, if any, valid information about this. It has been the subject of disinformation in order to deflect attention and create confusion so the truth doesn’t come out. ” ― Edgar D. Mitchell, The Way of the Explorer: An Apollo Astronaut's Journey Through the Material and Mystical World AFFIDAVIT (1) My name is Thomas Jefferson Dubose (2) My address is: XXXXXXXXXX (3) I retired from the U.S. Air force in 1959 with the rank of Brigadier General. (4) In July 1947, I was stationed at Fort Worth Army Air Field [later Carswell Air Force Base] in Fort Worth, Texas. I served as Chief of Staff to Major General Roger Ramey, Commander, Eighth Air Force. I had the rank of Colonel. (5) In early July, I received a phone call from Maj. Gen. Clements McMullen, Deputy Commander, Strategic Air Command. He asked what we knew about the object which had been recovered outside Roswell, New Mexico, as reported in the press. I called Col. William Blanchard, Commander of the Roswell Army Air Field, and directed him to send the material in a sealed container to me at Fort Worth. I so informed Maj. Gen. McMullen. (6) After the plane from Roswell arrived with the material, I asked the Base Commander, Col. Al Clark, to take possession of the material and to personally transport it in a B-26 to Maj. Gen. McMullen in Washington, D.C. I notified Maj. Gen. McMullen, and he told me he would send the material by personal courier on his plane to Benjamin Chidlaw, Commanding General of the Air Material Command at Wright Field [later Wright Patterson AFB]. The entire operation was conducted under the strictest secrecy. (7) The material shown in the photographs taken in Maj. Gen. Ramey’s office was a weather balloon. The weather balloon explanation for the material was a cover story to divert the attention of the press. (8) I have not been paid or given anything of value to make this statement, which is the truth to the best of my recollection. Signed: T. J. Dubose Date: 9/16/91 Signature witnessed by: Linda R. AND..As the Quran has it, Prophet Muhammad took a night trip to heaven aboard a trusty winged pony-horse-mule-ish creature called Buraq... Many other topics begin to make sense.. It has been said that after President Carter was finally briefed on the et reality, he was deeply upset. For several weeks.. MEANINGFUL congressional hearings, ala the Watergate hearings, including aerospace/defense contractors and others such as Bob Lazar, Andrew Basiago and Vice Admiral Thomas R. Wilson must be held to address a vital issue that transcends politics and we will never properly advance until it happens: The 75+yr ongoing-constitutionally illegal, EXTRATERRESTRIAL and associated TIME TRAVEL cover-ups. It would also be nice to know what the results of the many years/projects involving the back-engineering of recovered "vehicles" are. Who has been footing the bill for that? How can we truly believe anything our elected officials say? The longer an "official" disclosure is delayed...the more disruptive it could be. The general public is waiting to be given permission to believe...to know.

Of course no deity was involved. This show is fiction, unlike God who is real and works in non-fictional situations.

Yet religious delusions are still with us here in 2020. Roddenberry tried to wean us off our security blanket beliefs though.

Yes a ship with a chapel and stained glass Uhura telling the three amigos about Jesus...testify sister Kirk mocking Apollo by saying their One God is sufficient Kirk defeating M5 with religious debate .... The warning of most of Star Trek is man imagining himself to be God. Hubris. It is based on Forbidden Planet and that idea of destroying yourself by dabbling in things to make yourself immortal, instantly miraculously powerful or godlike....will cause doom. From The Cage and WNMHGB to Turnabout Intruder and all the way to Wrath of Khan. The assumed god in ST5 was finally revealed as a duplicitous devil locked in that realm by ...what????... A post Babylon 5 sequel episode would do the same thing with a devil (trapped on earth thousands of years ago) that escaped Earth via ship to the station.
