This episode (December 1966) was written by Theodore Sturgeon, but you can clearly see the influence of the Polish writer Stanislaw Lem, who wrote on 1961 the novel Solaris, about a planet which ocean is able to make humans wishes come true.

I think the writers liked the story of Alice In Wonderland there are at least four references I know of in the series.

And Deforest Kelly would later have to go up against an army of giant mutant rabbits in "Night of the Lepus".

Dr. McCoy says "ADLES in wonderland." I always thought it was Alice. But never mind that. Great episode.
@maltedmilk6888
