It was the summer of 1977. I was 17, and my parents "made" me take my 9 year old sister and 6 year old brother to see this at the theater. I still remember everyone cheering and applauding at eh end. That Christmas my little brother got a special present from Santa Claus: Star Wars pajamas, bed sheets, pillow cases and comforter. To this day he's still a geek and fan.

It’s difficult to understate just how massive Star Wars was in 1977/1978, it was EVERYWHERE. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any bigger … Empire landed and holy cow, what!?!? The level of hype between New Hope and Empire was off the chart, a good example was the legendary Boba Fett action figure. We had to collect Proofs of Purchase, little round parts of the cards the figures came on then mail them in, with a money order iirc, to Kenner Products to get a pre-movie Boba Fett. It took forever to get that thing, they had, ah, issues with it, prompted my dad to call Kenner to get mine. I still have it. :-)

I saw this in the movie theater when I was 5 years old in 1977. It was my first movie and has been a touchstone for my life ever since. My favorite character in the Star Wars saga is Obi-wan Kenobi, with a close runner-up in Han Solo. Unfortunately, many of the actors have passed on: Sir Alec Guinness - Obi-wan Kenobi - One of Britain's greatest actors, Oscar-winner Best Actor for Bridge on the River Kwai Peter Cushing - Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin - A legend of horror films, many of them with his dear friend Sir Christopher Lee in the 1960s and early 70s. Peter Mayhew - Chewbacca - a former healthcare assistant in England with one film to his credit. Peter was 2.21 m tall and played Chewie until 2015. Kenny Baker - R2-D2 (Inside the robot) - One of the most in-demand actors that was a little person during the 1970s and 80s. Carrie Fisher - Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan - A daughter of Hollywood royalty. Her mother was Oscar-nominated actress and singer Debbie Reynolds (Singin' In the Rain), and her father was a 1950s singer and heartthrob, Eddie Fisher. Carrie's stepmother was the legendary Elizabeth Taylor at one time. Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd, is also an actress who appeared in several Star Wars films. David Prowse - Darth Vader (inside of the black armor) - An English competitive bodybuilder and trainer, as well as an actor. He trained Christopher Reeve in bulking up to play Superman James Earl Jones - Darth Vader (the Voice of Vader), the most recent to pass just a month ago. A legend of stage and screen, winner of the 4 big awards...the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards). Leaving Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), and Denis Lawson (Wedge Antilles) as the only ones still alive and still working today. Behind the scenes - Before she died, Carrie Fisher, who also wrote novels and memoirs and helped many screenplays, wrote a book called The Princess Diarist based on the diaries she kept while filming the Star Wars films. She dropped a bombshell that she and Harrison Ford had an affair during the filming of Episode IV (the first one). At the time, Harrison's first marriage was falling apart and he was 36, and Carrie was about 18 years old. Humorously, when she told him she was letting the cat out of the bag in the book, his first reaction was, "LAWYER!" However, he knew it would have come out one day, and it was water under the bridge. So, there was no fallout between them. They were still close when she died, having filmed Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens together. All of the cast members were close. Since you love the score by John Williams, Disney Plus will be streaming a documentary on the composer called Music by John Williams on November 1. Among scores of his that you would love the entire Star Wars Skywalker saga (Episodes 1 - 9), The Indiana Jones films (five altogether), Superman the Movie (1978), Schindler's List, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter 1 & 2 (Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, although Hedwig's Theme appears in many of the Harry Potter films), Hook, Memoirs of a Geisha, and he adapted the music of the stage musical Fiddler on the Roof for the film version. He won Oscars for Fidder on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, and Schindler's List, and nominated 54 times for Oscars. He was even made an honorary knight by Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain in 2022.

I was 13 Years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars in the Movie Theatre. The Special effects were ahead of its time. The Movie was originally called Star Wars because George Lucas did not know if he would be allowed to make more Star Wars Movies. It was renamed Episode IV when Episode V The Empire Strikes Back was released in 1980. George Lucas started with the first Movie of his Middle Trilogy. Harrison Ford improvised the scene in the Detention Center when he is talking to the people on the Intercom asking what was going on.

Not-so-fun fact: The Chewbacca costume that the late, great Peter Mayhew wore was not supposed to get wet in the garbage compactor scene. But it did, and considering the fact that the original costume was made of yak hair, It produced a pretty funky odor.

Emma, it makes sense to watch the movies in the order of 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back introduce you to several key characters, and if you watch the prequels (1, 2, & 3) you will get their backstory which makes the END of the movie much more interesting and makes more sense. Remember, when I saw these movies, it was in the order that they were released. I didn't have a choice. Now, however, you have ALL of the parts of the puzzle, and it makes sense to watch these movies in the order that tells the story best. The order I give you preserves all the surprises (and makes the surprise better!)
@quoniam426

Fun fact about the music, Lucas originally wanted to put The Planets by Gustav Holst but the licence had not expired yet so it was too expansive. Spielberg recommanded him John Williams to write the score. The rest is History. Here, the movie was on a tight budget (nobody in the production believed it could work), so the orchestra hired for the movie was very small and the recording studio was also very small, that explains the harsh, dry and compressed impression of the score. Next one, by comparison was recorded in a cathedral with many more instruments (some even duplicated or quintuplated compared to their usual amount for a more impactful score...) C3PO is a Protocol droid, he can translate what other droids say no problem. R2D2 is an Astromech, those droids can tap into computer systems, repair broken things on a ship... Also serves a navigation aid on small spacecraft. At 5:25 you can notice the Stravinsky influence... Of course the first scene is outright inspired by Mars from Holst... Yes just like that, an Earth-like planet can be destroyed by the Death Star... (Alderaan has same mass, size, atmosphere and land mass ratio than Earth) TIE fighter sound is supposed to be the roaring Twin Ion Engines (hence the name TIE). Mouse droids are there to guide people or access restricted areas via very small tunnels. That first lightsaber foght is underwhelming, the props were very fragile (wood stick with reflective material on it to be replaced by a laser beam in post prod) and not enough budget to make spares... Next fights will be much better. Obi Wan is dead. But he went into The Force beforehand, so he essentially became a spiritual being. Even in nowadays jet fighters, targeting computers with preprogrammed objectives exist. Hand and Leia's body language are not really acted, the actors liked eachother a great deal behind the scenes... The term Space Opera was given to Star Wars score because of the thematic approach, similar to Wagner's own works.

A New Hope was an amazing amalgamation of the previous 30 years of science fiction and fantasy. themes in books and movies from across many cultures. The really amazing special effects and probably underappreciated these days, were the 3D computer-generated graphics like we see in the targeting computers. the 3d, wire frame tank game, Battlezone was only 3 years away. edited pacman reference. Jurassic Park, first textured 3D in a movie. 16 years into the future.

Glad you are stepping into the Star Wars universe, Emma. The best way to watch these films for new viewers: Original Trilogy: A New Hope ( 1977), Empire Strikes Back (1980) Return of the Jedi (1983), The Prequel Trilogy: The Phantom Menace (1999), The Attack of The Clones (2002) and the Revenge of the Sith (2005) Also, Solo (2018) and Finally "Rogue One" (2016) to round it out. You are in for a great ride. For one other recommendations, for Harrison Ford, I recommend "Patriot Games" a great 1992 suspense action film. Ford Plays CIA operative Jack Ryan, based off the character from the Tom Clancy novels. Ford Stars with the late Richard Harris, Sean Bean, Anne Archer, Samuel L. Jackson and the late James Esrl Jones, who also famously voices Darth Vader in these films. I have a feeling you will enjoy these films.😊

11:11 I think many people have the same thoughts and feelings about the future. Most of us do not discuss it because it seems crazy to think we might have magical psychic powers of divination. But I believe we all experience these things from time to time throughout our lives, with or without assistance from psychedelic drugs. This possibility of mysterious magical powers is a big part of these movies. They've got a lot of heart at their core, and everyone can connect to them because they explore the human condition through the hero's journey.

Patreon really sucks, and has for a very long time. They have cancelled many people unjustly for their own particular reasons. I would suggest alternatives like locals or subscribestar. As for the reaction, one thing to note, is that most people react to the remastered version, which update the visuals, and added in CGI to it, which was not available on that scale in 1977. If you're able, watch the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy. Also, nice shoutout to the ARP 2600. I used to own the Odyssey many years ago. Korg and Behringer actually released newer versions of these a few years ago. Doctor Mix actually broke down on how they made the sounds for the lightsabers, you should check out his video on YT.

This was a great reaction I love this movie reaction channel I’m sorry your stuff got deleted that’s really unfair 😢 I’m a Star Wars fanatic and I’m a huge Luke skywalker supporter he inspired me to become Jedi and I actually learn about the force in real life it’s real 🌘 May the force be with you ✌🏽💪🏽💯👍
