I assumed to do this I would just change the frame start and end of the emitter but I'm getting odd rotation variations for some reason as a result. Is there a better way to start and stop the blaster fire?

@@samhallvfx HAH I Watched the same video a Few minutes ago, thanks for answering, PLEASE make more star wars TUTS
I have a question and it is that in a part of the video you link the emitters with the ship so that when the ship moves the emitters do it too, which I don't know exactly how you do it because in my case what I did was a ship but I put bones since it had somewhat complex movements and I don't know whether to link the emitters to the bones to the mesh (ship) or to what I hope you can help me
@samhallvfx

I'm not sure as I don't know much about bones but I would think that if you link the emitters to the mesh any bone-based animation should carry over to any child objects.

Hi I'm doing a Starwars animation also. But I have a problem: If I have attached the ship to a path, and fireing the blasters, the particles are slower than the ship itself. Resulting in the case that the ship is kind of overtaking the particles... even if I cranked up the particle speed to 1000 meter/sec. How can I fix this? The needed to shoot in FRONT OF THE SHIP
@samhallvfx
7 ай бұрын
I’m not sure but you may need to crank up the ‘object velocity’ slider to value of 1 in the particle settings. That allows the particles to inherit the velocity of the ship and then the particle velocity adds to it. I’m not sure if that’s the solution but I feel your pain and it’s a tricky balance getting all that to work.
@alexmellor9455

My particles aren't emitting from the centre of the emitter. Instead they're off centre and emitting from different parts of the emitter plane. Any ideas? I've tried fixing by; applying transforms, ensuring origin points of particle and emitter are correct, but still no luck unfortunately

Great tutorial! Do you know how to make the blaster shots appear in different time gaps/randomize their appearance (when there are two 2 blaster shots at a time)? For example at first there are 0.5 seconds between the first two shots and the two shots after, then there is 1 sec, after that 0.3 sec, etc. Would be very thankful for an answer :)

In star wars, the x-wings fire in an x shape, so top right gun bottom left gun top left gun bottom right gun, is there a way to do that?
@samhallvfx
3 жыл бұрын
My understanding based on the old X-Wing games is that the pattern can vary based on power distribution but there's probably a way to do it by making the particles fire from each face in sequence I just don't know it. You could try not joining the 4 planes and using a different particle simulation for each plane with the timing offset on each one. Maybe?
My only concern is how do you keyframe the particle system to only occur when you want it to
@samhallvfx
3 жыл бұрын
You'd have to set the start and end times of the particle sim to fit your needs. If you need it to go on and off I think you'd need multiple sims.

It's a common industry practice so that if you ever need to add frames to to the front of a sequence, you just go into the 900s rather than dealing with having to move all of your animations forward because you can't have negative numbers.
