Citizens of the Empire and of the galaxy in general have been hardened and scarred by life, so the methods of the Sith aren't quite as unpalatable as they are to us. There's also the fact that the Empire was (up until recently in-game) an Imperial Cult (look that up if you don't know what it is) and is a society where the military and the government are highly intertwined. There aren't really any true politicians in the Empire. Excluding the Sith, the Empire is essentially run by the highest-ranking military personnel. So to your average Imperial citizen the Sith are still somewhat "holy" figures whose commands are not to be questioned, and whose minds are "above" their own intellectual capabilities. And since political power and military power are so heavily intertwined, almost every Imperial citizen has gone through boot-camp and become physically and mentally tougher. Only high-ranking Imperials actually know that the Sith are rather ordinary but powerful individuals who have had really, really tough/harsh lives.

I’ve always been a fan of the sith over the Jedi. The Jedi creed of ‘not emotion’ is dumb. Besides two of the most notable Jedi don’t even follow it. @sorrowandsufferin924

You are aware that Anakin is the perfect showcase for why the Jedi preach distancing oneself from their emotions, right? The Force gives you an amount of power 99% of the galaxy couldn't hope to match. You have to devote your life to the art of fighting, train harder than any army in the galaxy, or possess unique physical abilities to go head to head with a knight of the Jedi Order. And that's not even mentioning the masters. That's the reason the Mandalorians fought the Jedi so often - Mandalorians seek out the great challenges of the galaxy to hone their skills or die with honour. There is no greater challenge in the galaxy than to face a Jedi. When you have this kind of immense power, able to manipulate physical objects as long as you can see them, convince most beings to trust you with a handwave, an uncanny intuition for truth and lie - that makes you supremely dangerous. Ruled by emotions, you could harm entire civilisations, especially ones that respect you as most do the Jedi. . Do me a favour and play the Jedi Consular campaign in the game (Star Wars: The Old Republic), at least until Alderaan. It deals with exactly this kind of situation - Jedi abusing their power and the dangers that holds for the galaxy, especially a galaxy on the brink of war.

Hard to find the fix for this, some say order needed and full control, someone to set the standards for all, and force it on everyone. The dark side is only a tool for some on the Empire side, the ideology what matters. Not saying that's better, but not saying the Alliance way (our civilized modern way) works better either....... Even simple things your neighbour makes noise, loud music all day every day, should you make them stop? Accept even if it's wrong? Because the Republic feared the Sith would make a return if peace was made, the Republic decided to bombard the planet of Korriban, killing several Sith Empire civilians and a Sith. The Sith grew to have an eternal hatred for the Jedi, they hunted the Sith to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Eventually, the survivors of the Republics attempt to wipe out the remnants of the Empire fled to the Unknown Regions, and the new Sith Emperor rallied support of the people, claiming they would “get revenge” on the Republic for casting them out. Both sides teach that the other side is the “bad guy”. The Sith Empire isn’t ALL Sith, in fact, most of the population consists of non-force sensitives, such as citizens and soldiers. The Sith were just the elite ruling class. Lots of governments (especially in the Outer Rim) had always hated the Republic, and many planets that were corrupt could easily be bought in, not to mention the Sith at one point had one of the greatest armies the galaxy had ever seen, thus making many systems openly surrender from the threat of the full might of the Imperial Military coming down on them.

There's a lot of misinformation in your comments about the Sith and their history. The first conflict between Jedi and Sith, the True Sith, was the Great Hyperspace War, but the battle between the Light and the Dark sides of the Force have gone on for a long time and this battle for supremacy (not balance) is what colours the perception of the Sith in-universe. The True Sith are a race of red-skinned humanoids (you see one in the "Return" cinematic) but the main conflict comes from the Jen'jidai, the Jedi Exiles. Thousands of years ago, there was the Hundred-Years Darkness, a civil war between the Jedi that spilled over into the wider galaxy and resulted in a whole lot of people dying. Who threw the first stone, the light or the dark sides, we don't know, but, in the end, the Dark Jedi lost the war. But, instead of dealing with the Dark Jedi, the Light Jedi instead decided to let someone else deal with their problem and exiled them into Wild Space--the part of space where the Sith lived undisturbed for many thousand years. The Dark Jedi, now known as the Jedi Exiles, soon found themselves in Sith space where they promptly began murdering, raping, enslaving, and manipulating the True Sith into their servants. They were colonized. Their culture was twisted and malformed into something that benefited the Jedi Exiles. Their religion was twisted to make the Jedi Exiles seem like their god. Hell, the leader of the Jedi Exiles, Ajunta Pall, was named "The Left-Handed God". Four thousand years after that happened, we get to the Great Hyperspace War. Two explorers from the Republic had found the Sith Empire accidentally while mapping the galaxy. The Sith Empire, rightfully so, thought this was the beginning of an invasion and multiple factions started spawning all with their own ideas on how to deal with the potential invasion. The two major factions, Ludo Kressh and Naga Sadow, wanted to either hide away from the Republic or fight the Republic head on respectively. Naga Sadow's reasoning for wanting to fight the Republic was due to him being a descendant of the Jen'jidai and desiring revenge for the Jedi Exiles' defeat some four thousand years ago. Unfortunately, he had power and influence and so went to war with the Republic. The war lasted one year and was kinda small compared to other wars, even if people like to hype it up, and the Empire lost. The Republic then decided to make sure the Sith died out and started bombing their plants, killing anyone with red skin, destroying their cultural artefacts, their religious artefacts, their homes and livelihoods, forcing a massive number of Sith to flee on a mass exodus out of their home. After that, the Sith waited and waited, rebuilding their lives and plotting revenge for the genocide of their people. Then the Great Galactic War happened (as we see the end of in this video right now). That's why they're so brutal. In "Return," they're so brutal because they're fighting to reclaim their homeworld. In "Deceived," they're so brutal because they're finally getting their revenge, destroying the home of the Jedi as the Jedi destroyed their home all those years ago. The Hyperspace War and the Galactic War are the only two wars between the True Sith and the Jedi. Every single last other war between the Sith and Jedi have actually been between Dark Side Force Users who call themselves Sith (but have no connection to the Sith) and the Jedi. Darth Sidious isn't a True Sith. Darth Vader is just a Dark Jedi. Exar Kun is a Dark Jedi. Freedon Nadd is a Dark Jedi. Revan is a Dark Jedi. They're just called Sith because the True Sith were murdered and destroyed until all that was left is a shadow of their former self, twisted into something that benefits other people.

Wow, so much deep lore. Are these found in books/comics mostly since they are so far back in history?
@AvatarNaty

@@Gaxelle Yeah, you can read up on a lot of things in the novels and comics. the "Tales of the Jedi" comic series goes into detail with the Sith and the Dark Jedi cult (Freedon Nadd/Exar Kun) that came after the Great Hyperspace war. The Book of the Sith discusses the Sith and the Force from several Dark Sider perspectives, including one from Sozun Syn (on of the Jen'Jidai) and Darth Malgus (the Sith we see throughout these cinematics). [Rest of post is dedicated to discussing my reasonings for liking the Sith] However, I will note that canon isn't perfect. The entire worldbuilding around the True Sith in canon is a mess and obviously written by people who don't actually understand what they're supposed to be writing. They try and paint an entire species as evil and bad (which is kinda racist when species in Star Wars are analogous with IRL races), and think that an Empire can last thousands of years while chronically murdering one another. They outright refuse to delve deep into the culture of the Sith and generally treat it like a Planet of Hats (TV Tropes). Like, don't get me wrong--the Sith aren't good, in canon. They're Xenophobic and Slavers with a massive mean-streak and flair for the dramatics. The thing is, though, that the Jedi and the Republic--the Heroes of the Story--aren't any better and end up doing just as bad as the Sith. I mean, the Jedi and Republic have secret prisons where people who disagree with them, people who study what they don't want studied, and whatnot are imprisoned for life with their children being imprisoned as well and their children and their children (you see one such prison in TOR). The Jedi and Republic support slavers and support slavery by outright doing nothing about it, not counting their literal slave army of clones. Then there's the fact that Count Dooku left the Jedi Order because the Jedi Order jumped headlong into a war they didn't know everything about and ended up fighting for the bad guys who had tricked the Jedi into doing what they did. When I say I support the Sith, I talk about the True Sith and I specifically talk about what the True Sith could've been. I talk about the Sith as a culture and people unrealized by the people writing about them, the ones with a culture unique to themselves, a people whose history is entrenched in being invaded, attacked, driven from their homes, and destroyed, who's culture is entrenched in an endless struggle to even be recognized as worthy of living. I don't support the Sith, I support what they could've been, even if I acknowledge that the Sith do bad things and need to change. Of course, this is only me, but there are a few blogs I recommend you check out which have done much in the way of fleshing out the Sith. @inquisitorhotpants and @fluffynexu on Tumblr do great jobs exploring and expanding on the Sith.

*Peace is a lie, there is only passion.* *Through passion, I gain strength.* *Through strength, I gain power.* *Through power, I gain victory.* *Through victory, my chains are broken.* *The Force shall set me free.* The Sith Code dictates only that you follow your passions. The Sith mostly use hatred as it's an easy and very passionate emotion. But any strong emotion can be used to fuel your connection to the Dark Side. The Sith way is a simple step-by-step program, and hatred and anger make said steps easier. -- _There is no emotion, there is peace._ _There is no ignorance, there is knowledge._ _There is no passion, there is serenity._ _There is no chaos, there is harmony._ _There is no death, there is only the Force._ _The Jedi Code will guide me._ The ideal Jedi is not guided by their emotions or passions. They are the prime example of inner peace, never lashing out, never being biased. Their view is based on the universe itself and how to best serve the will of the Force. -- In short, there's two valid reasons for joining the Sith. One, the Sith encourage you to follow your passions whereas the Jedi claim that your feelings only stand in the way of peace. And two, the Sith Code promises power in a way that's easy to understand, whereas the Jedi Code is nearly impossible to follow and doesn't promise anything. What would you rather do? Listen to your heart and get something awesome in return? Or follow a strict set of unreasonable rules with nothing to show for it?

@@disastergoblin65 That's how I play my Sith Assassin in Star Wars: The Old Republic. She started out as a slave, and was constantly referred to as such during her training. So she lashed out violently in return. However, she never threatened anyone who didn't deserve it. Eventually, she took in a former Jedi Padawan, who acted as somewhat of a "morality chain". Now, she's a "Grey Sith". She follows the Sith Code, but keeps a balance between light and dark. She now uses her past as a slave to fuel her desire for justice, seeking out slavery and ending it wherever she goes. Inversely, I've got a Jedi Sage whose mindset can best be described as "No second chances". Anyone who stands in the way of her understanding of peace gets no mercy, be they Sith or fellow Jedi. Despite having learned a way to break people out of mind control, she finds it simpler to just kill them to prevent it from happening again. What she does is awful, but she always finds a way to spin it into either "I had no choice" or "I couldn't risk it". Needless to say, if those two met, the Assassin would call the Sage out on her hypocrisy and the Sage would look for any possible excuse to kill the Assassin.

Of course, caring for the Reich, or the Empire, is not mutually exclusive with caring for their racist policies, the oppression of non-Sith (a lot of which are not covered in the Dark Side point choice umbrella), or with waging a war of aggression against everyone else because it's "right and proper" for the Empire to rule the galaxy. I mean, I play Sith (for one, the abilities are more fun), but I don't need the moral relativisation to fell good, or bad, about any set of choices that impact a fictional world. To state that "supporting the Sith Empire" from an in-world perspective, is anything at all unlike supporting the Third Reich was in the real one, was just factually wrong. Because the Empire is racist, oppressive, and the Sith as a whole, Malgus, Marr, Nox (considered to be the most likely canon version though there really isn't one) and the Emperor are all fucked up evil beyond redemption. If we get into politics, some would say that the Rebels seek freedom and the Empire seeks order, but that's just a masquerade. As I see it, it all comes down to emotion. There is nothing more common than human emotions. The Jedi suppress their emotions and reject intimate relationships for the sake of the peacekeeping duty. Emotions interfere with those objectives causing all sort of issues that create different forms of self-harm. "Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed, that is." That's the Dark Side's source of power, something we all empathize with. The philosophy of the Sith is summarized in: If you are happy, laugh. If you are sad, cry. If you are angry, scream. You can make mistakes in the same way you can work wonders when you are free to express yourself. Thus, since there are no rules, the one who triumphs is the strongest, the fittest. That is why the Dark Side, especially Darth Vader, is so appealing: it is difficult to judge someone who did what they did because they wanted to save a loved one. They might want money. Maybe they want women. Or, they might want to protect the world. These are all common things people want. Things that their hearts desire. Greed may not be good, but it’s not so bad, either. Humans think greed is just for money and power, *but everyone wants something they don’t have.*

Palpatine AKA The Emperor was trained by Darth Plagueis, and had spent time in meditation, looking to the future. He saw an extra-galactic invasion by a race called the Yuuzhan-Vong. The Death Stars and the creation of the Naval fleet of Star destroyers was to fight them. Palpatine knew that the only way to prepare for the threat was to centralize power. He was a bit cruel, but his intentions were pretty good.

But also to secure power across the galaxy in an Empire of unprecedented proportions. Larger than any Sith Empire of the old days, covering more worlds than the Infinite Empire even (for example, the Infinite Empire never had access to Alderaan because their force-powered ftl engines could only navigate towards Force-strong worlds such as Tatooine, Hoth, Kashyyk, and Belsavis - Alderaan, homeworld of the Kilik species, was never an Infinite Empire world)

If you see the full picture you basically see, Sith aren't necessarily evil and Jedi aren't necessarily good, same with empire or republic. The couple minute videos make it look like Sith are just pure rage and destruction, and there is a kernel of truth to that. But with a deeper look you find out that's far from the truth. It's mainly different ways of life, if drained down to a few sentences, the core belief of Jedi and Republic is "It is an obligation of the strong to protect the weak and stand through unity" and with Sith and Empire it becomes "If the strong always protect the weak then they shall remain weak and be prayed upon by the strong, it is up to the strong to allow the weak to find a path to become strong, not to obstruct that path."
@luketimewalker
4 жыл бұрын
...more like "it is up to the strong to allow the weak to find a path to become their prey so the strong become stronger at their expense and laugh at their weakness"... and in the case of Sith, fuel their Dark Side by "enjoying" the pain, the rage, the hatred and the wrath. Those are the rods the Inquisitor must assemble in the Tomb of Naga Sadow on Korriban. A warrior builds up rage, not focus, determination or whatever. Darth Malgus even murdered his twi'lek lover because his feelings were "holding him back" (as she was the weak point his fellow predators would exploit), and in turn the rage of being loveless and being the murderer of his love took him even further in the dark side, ie more sith power. All Sith say the Force is there to serve THEM, unlike the Jedi who hope to serve the Force. But some Sith say going too deep in the Dark Side will only make you its mindless toy. Even the Sith commander on Oricon recognizes that.

The reason why the common civilian would support the sith is because the sith and the empire were viewed as two separate orders. Many in imperial command or army believed that the empire was a stable government but that the proplems they had were due to the sith and their focus for personal gain and power rather than running the empire. The sith would order troops to commit genocide and if they declined they would surely meet death. The sith lust for only power and control however the empire and civilians hope to establish a government for all. You can see this struggle during both Darth malgus's command and empress Acina's rule. And the Republic well... That's just a shit show who decided to create that honestly.

every single war in legends is started by a sith/dark side invasion, the jedi NEVER attack first after the schisms. as for why they attacked the fallen jedi in those conflicts, it’s because they were, to put it simply, EVIL. the dark side is defined by destructive emotions such as anger, passion, rage, and selfishness which ultimately cause harm to both their user and said user’s victims. for someone touched by the force, it’s not hard at all to sense these things. if you were a hero, would you let someone who’s clearly bad go and do as they please just because they haven’t harmed anyone yet? they moved preemptively and actually did a good thing by stopping the sith before they could cause harm to the galaxy. everyone argues that the sith “hadn’t done anything”, but it’s pretty clear just by their nature that they quickly would have proceeded to sow havoc

I sided with Jedi and Republic until I played this game. Then I realised I kind of prefer the way the Empire is run, sure they're cruel but at least you know where you stand with them. The Sith are upfront with how they feel and trusting them is stupid so you never do, but they allow you to do what you want so long as you have the strength to back yourself up (which you obviously do in the game). As for the Jedi, I kind of hated being the errand boy for the senate. The corruption amongst the Senate made them no better than the Empire in my eyes, but I found their deception worse because they lied with a smile on their face whereas the Empire, for example, if they told you, you were a slave, you would be a slave. (lol, bad example maybe but I really hated the deceptive politics, backstabbing and scheming within the Republic). Also, the number of whiny people that cry for your help in the jedi missions (only to be sort of grateful) really peeved me. I didn't mind helping people if they really needed it, but some of the things they asked you to do were just so stupidly trivial, they could have easily done it themeslves if they weren't so useless. Another reason why I prefer the Empire and Sith over the Republic/Jedi is their dislike of aliens, lmao. With the exception of Twi'leks and Jawas (and obviously the Sith), I am not a big fan of Aliens walking around like normal citizens (lol, it sounds so mean when I read it back but that's just what I think).

For the Sith though it’s about mutual intolerance-and if you look up the legion of Letto you’ll see that originally they were one order that actually studied the whole force and weren’t a political body. But for social reasons the light side became more dominant and a number of the order left to study the dark side. After a while the Jedi got tired of the competition and set out to exterminate the Legion-who hadn’t actually left their monastery world. The survivors fled and eventually found the Sith species who were naturally attuned to the dark side. The rest is history, with both sides doing terrible things-the Jedi just have a better PR department that help explain away why they help enforce unfair rules, kidnap kids for their order, etc.

People support the Empire and the Sith for many reasons. But mainly its because they believe in the actual ideals of the Empire, rather than those of the Republic. The Empire gets less and less xenophobic as time goes on, so by the time period of the current expansions, the Empire is a pure (and brutal) meritocracy that promises those at the top wealth, luxury, and power beyond their wildest dreams, while those "at the top" of the Republic are really just public servants required to keep the populace safe and happy. People would rather fight for the Empire because they believe (some of them correctly) that they can get to the top of the heap and enjoy the fruits of that position, it gives them something to fight for, and motivation to succeed. Even in the Empire's xenophobic days, people still fought for an supported it because they whole-heartedly believed that Sith Purebloods were the rightful rulers of the galaxy, and they wanted to secure the favor of the Sith Purebloods for their own sake and the sake of their descendants. After all, if you believe that a single faction/race is eventually going to rule the galaxy with absolute power, the logical thing to do is to butter them up and make them like you so they'll keep your descendants around as favored servants rather than enslaving them or just killing them.

I think a lot of the disagreement about Jedi and Sith comes from the fact that Star Wars canon itself can't decide on the nature of the Light and Dark sides of the Force. Star Wars was created as a melding of Eastern and Western mythological symbolism, and there is one fundamental element of philosophy where the two differ drastically: Yin and Yang, vs Good and Evil. Yin and Yang, Chaos and Order, are an essential part of Eastern philosophy, and represent two equal and opposite forces that need to be in balance in order for life to be lived fruitfully. Good and Evil on the other hand are NOT equal and opposite forces that should be balanced. In Western philosophy, Good is, well, good, and evil is a cancer that should be destroyed at every opportunity. Star Wars has always put forward 'balance' as the thing which should be strived towards, but both the canon and the fans are constantly disagreeing about what this means. The confusion comes from the fact that the two sides of the Force have been represented as both Yin/Yang AND Good/evil. If the Force is Yin/Yang, then 'balance' is found by embracing the Light and Dark sides equally. If the Force is Good/Evil, then 'balance' is found by destroying the Dark and embracing the Light. I *think*, though I don't know this for certain, that George Lucas originally intended for the Good/Evil interpretation, and that's the interpretation which I prefer. However, I would be content with the Yin/Yang interpretation too... as long as SOMEONE in charge finally realizes that this is what's going on, and settles the question once and for all.
@Gaxelle

Beautiful analysis, a thought I didnt fully think about. Its true, I think, many times this exact process is in question. Sometimes it seems good/evil. And others yin/yang. I enjoy the ying yang concept myself, believing balance is important. Sometimes "evil" is misunderstood and not truely bad. But that's the thing I do appreciate about star wars is they cause us to ask/wonder about these philosophical questions.
@Moribax85

all your reasoning could be good, if not for the fact that in no movie is ever stated that the light side is the good one, and the dark side is the evil one, that's just a misconception born by the fact that we tend to associate light with good and dark with bad. in canon, and in the expanded universe, what now is called "star wars legends", the light side is always described as the side in control, the side who places logic and clarity above all, while the dark side is the one that feeds on raw emotions. Neither is inheretly good or evil, it all depends on the person: a sith is totally capable of killing to reach his goal, as he's capable of moving mountains for the people he loves, while a jedi can be devoted to preserve life, to the point of causing the death of all the people on a ship because he refused to let just one person die in the end, the dark side is emotion, the light side is apathy
@SerialSnowmanKiller

@@Moribax85 You're clearing taking the Yin/Yang approach to the force, seeing the two sides as equal and opposite. I can't say you're wrong, not until and unless someone in charge realizes where the source of fan confusion is coming from and tries to settle the debate once and for all... but I'm baffled that you think the Dark Side is not, at the *very* least, associated with evil. In virtually every canon and Legends source that talks on the subject, the Dark Side is presented as corrupting, a thing that will twist those who fall into it until they become something unrecognizable. Virtually every villain either embraces or falls into the Dark Side, and virtually every hero either embraces the Light, or walks the line between the two sides. There is the rare exception, but they're not currently Canon, and there were a LOT of authors working on the Legends continuity, there was bound to be a little weirdness. The Jedi are, with a few exceptions, on the whole presented as being noble and self-sacrificing. They aren't perfect, and their organization has major flaws... but really, who doesn't? Compared to any real-world organization, the Jedi Order has an impossibly good track record for being incorruptible (again, compared to any real-world organization), and has consistently kept to its purpose of protecting the innocent and upholding the Republic over its 20,000 year history (according to Legends). Your typical Jedi will sacrifice themselves to save a train car full of innocents. The SIth are, with a few exceptions, presented as being selfish and destructive. Their organizations have very few redeeming qualities, and any time they gain power in the galaxy, wars and countless innocent deaths follow. Those who join them, even for altruistic purposes (I'm drawing on Legends for that data point) consistently forget their original purposes and become corrupt, willing to do anything to further their own agendas. Your typical Sith will sacrifice a train car full of innocents for a fleeting gain, or for no reason at all. You can point to the odd exception on both sides as evidence that I'm wrong, but they're very much the exceptions that prove the rule. There's an old proverb that goes 'by their fruits, you shall know them', where if you are uncertain as to the character of a person or organization... just look at what concrete things they have accomplished. The Jedi Order has acted as a guardian of peace for 20,000 years, and in the absence of the Sith, does so effectively. The Sith on the other hand, consistently bring war and death. Every time a major war breaks out, there's usually a meglomaniacal Sith Lord at the bottom of it, trying to take over the galaxy. Finally, going back to the original movies... it's hard to dispute that they were intended as an uncomplicated story of Good vs. Evil, and both the Original and Prequel trilogies present the Dark Side as being very very bad. I believe that George Lucas saw the two sides as being Good/Evil rather than Yin/Yang, which is why the Chosen One was the person destined to destroy the Sith, rather than the one destined to bring the two sides involved to equal levels of strength.

The idea of balance is a central concept in my ethos. Probably because of my years of training in martial arts. Balance is central in those. It should also be central in societies as well, but rarely is. All it takes is a few people severely out of balance with ambition and greed and it doesn't take long for the whole thing to collapse. It's why I'd be a Grey Jedi in the Star Wars universe.
@SerialSnowmanKiller
4 жыл бұрын
@@robgraham5697 Certainly, the idea of balance is important to living a fulfilling life. Balancing work and family, balancing a checkbook, or indeed, physical balance in a martial art. That's where the Yin/Yang dichotomy comes in. The balance of order and chaos in a person's life is necessary for a meaningful life. You need chaos to push you out of your comfort zone, to learn and grow... but you also need the stability of order in order to rest and refocus. Keeping one foot in the wilderness of chaos and one foot in the safe normality of order is an axiom to live by; and if that were the intent and message behind the Light and Dark sides of the Force, I would be content. The problem is that there's another possible interpretation: That the Dark Side represents Evil instead of Chaos, and the Light Side represents Good instead of Order. Good and Evil aren't equal and opposite forces to be balanced. Instead, Good *is* the balance, and Evil is an abomination to be opposed. Being a fan of absolute morality, I quite like this interpretation, and it seems to fit with what we see of the Jedi and the Sith. I would be happy with either one of these philosophies being applied to the Force, and used as the central message of Star Wars... but they need to be applied *consistently*. A decision needs to be made about whether the Force is Yin/Yang or Good/Evil, and then stuck to, rather than flip-flopping between the two.

@@MadHatter_920 No thanks. Give me liberty or give me death. Only the weak would trade freedom for security. And they only attach themselves to causes deemed greater than they are to make up for their own ineptitude and give themselves a sense of purpose in their otherwise meaningless life. Although in that context, I suppose they deserve a lifetime of servitude and oppression.

Siths and their Empire really need reforms. Maaaany reforms. But still, their passion is more intriguing than Jedi serenity (and despite all, many of them are arrogant). However, I denounce both sides, as they limit their view to only one side and both sides are hypocrites, but in different ways. I am more like Gray Sith and trying combine Dark and Light Side of the Force. But again, if I have to choose, than rather Sith Empire (especially if reformed) than Galactic Republic.

People support the Empire and the Sith because they're honest about being assholes. It's not like the Republic where they pretend to be on your side, but like many democracies before them, they only care about your votes and their personal power. With the Empire, they're honest about the fact that they're dickheads, and that the strong survive and the weak perish. If you want to challenge someone, you don't call him out on a political debate, you challenge his honor in a duel, and the two of you walk in, only one walks out. It's that kind of civilization where the people at the top got there because they can rip you in half five ways to Friday, and people are attracted to such cultures of strength, especially since today, America's youth and culture is a cavalcade of political and celebrity scandals along with degeneracy and obesity epidemics. People long for a time when the strong led by example, and success was based on how brave and powerful you were, not on how rich your family is or how much friends you have in the upper crust of society. Because even if you came from wealth, the Sith academy would rip you to shreds if you're not strong or fast enough to succeed.

@Jacob Dorvinen no, they support whoever offers the greatest challenge... mandalorians are basically a mix between spartans, vikings and klingons: they're born to risk their lives on the battlefield, they train all their life to fight with honor against powerful foes, with the objective of dying a glorious death... they tend to support the empire more often than not simply because they have more chance for battle on their side

Why do people support the sith? Well, If you listen to Palpatine in ep 3, when he talks about Darth Plagueis, in one part he said: the good and bad are only point of views. Both want power, the jedi too.

SWTOR is a really fun game, I've been playing since 2013, and I am still very much enjoying it. I only wish I was better at socializing so I can get friends along to play the parts that require more players... The trailers do a great job of showcasing the different abilities the different classes can use.

The common people of the Empire follow the Sith because they believe in a doctrine of strength above all else, like the Sith. Also, at the end of the Great Hyperspace War, when the Dark Jedi that eventually became the Sith were driven from known space into the Unknown Regions, the Republic also tried to wipe out all of the supporters of the Dark Jedi. That was in totality; the Republic and Jedi Order attempted to massacre anyone even peripherally related to the dark side, including families and associates of the defeated Dark Jedi. The future Sith rescued the supporters in an uncommon act of charity, and the gratitude of their descendants eventually translated into complete loyalty to the Sith Empire, mainly the Sith Emperor and the Dark Council. It's essentially part of their culture, which revolves around military strength and a brutal, backstabbing meritocracy.

Fun Fact: This incident, the Sacking of Coruscant, was when Malgus became disillusioned with the Empire. Despite capturing the heart of the Republic and having the opportunity to just destroy everything with an orbital bombardment, the Empire only used Coruscant as a bargaining chip during peace talks. Malgus, who believes that the true nature of the force is conflict, was livid and declared that both the Jedi and the Sith were all heretics, unworthy of commanding the forces power.

The dark side has been compared to a narcotic and that is, in my opinion, an extremely apt comparison. It rewards you for giving in to your baser instincts, and the more you indulge yourself the greater the rewards. It actively encourages your descent into greater and greater heights of cruelty and self-interest. Let's face it; being a Jedi is HARD. You are constantly needing to practice self-denial, discipline, and selflessness. That's a big reason why starting young is a requirement for most Jedi. Most people have to be raised in an environment that dogmatically preaches such self-control if you want to reliably produce light-side users. Meanwhile, almost all Sith (especially post-Bane) are recruited as adults, because by then they've already developed their sense of self-entitlement.

People will support the Sith Empire for a number of reasons. The biggest one being that of seeking power. Other reasons can be looked at the way Criminologists look at why people commit crimes in their respective countries. Some people commit crimes for power, some commit crimes to feed themselves and their families. Some do it because they've been hurt for so long by so many that they feel like they need rebel against them (what Malgus said about the Jedi essentially). Darth Revan for example, before SWTOR Revan Novel came out, was said to have sacrificed himself to the Dark Side to prevent a greater evil. "He was a man willing to wage war to save others." -Kreia

Both have their benefits and downsides. Like choosing which government you want. Democracy, communism, socialism, etc. All have benefits, but also have downsides. Darkside is just leading with an iron fist but rewards obedience. Lightside leads with morals but rewards with praise/recognition mostly it seems.

People support the Sith because it feels good. Fear, anger, and hatred trigger the flight-or-flight reflex which floods the body with the same chemicals as crack cocaine. It's a real rush. Also being brutal and cruel is a way to inflate someone's ego. "See? I'm so much better than my victims." At least that's how it works with humans. I'm of the opinion that any sentient species must be wired much the same way otherwise it's doubtful they would evolve sentience. Anyway, I liked these trailers far more then the Str Wars movies that were out at the time. Far more exciting, and painful.

Why support the Sith Empire? - Imperials are most often born Imperial, not made. Which is why they do not know any better. Make no mistake, Imperials are allowed to be ambitious. A high ranking Imperial Moff has more pull than a Sith Apprentice. So why the Empire? For the powerful and ambitious, this is where all the fun is to be had. You get servants, slaves and Sith acolytes for you to mold into the next generation of killing machines. The Sith Empire is never at their strongest because the Sith Lords have their own little power bases and fight even each other for more power, they do not work well together. The great irony is if the Sith ever unite all their power bases, the Republic and Jedi will stand no chance at all. It's a natural way of balancing things out. - Before the Emperor signed the peace treaty that came some time after this cinematic, the Emperor united all the Sith and directed their combined might to a single enemy. Which is why Coruscant, the capital of the Republic and Alderaan fell so easily. The Empire could have finished the Republic off but the Emperor signed the treaty. The title is fitting because the Sith too were deceived. It wasn't the Sith Emperor's goal to destroy the Republic but merely to prolong the war.

I think this is why the Jedi was so supressive of feelings... They feared their own emotions and darkside because the Sith were so terrifying.... Maybe without these wars and sufferings the Jedi might have been less strict when it comes to feelings.... Maybe they would have let Anakin go save his mum!!!!!!!!

I know you probably won't see this. But my Reason to support the Empire with Palpatine is. It's a better alternative then a Republic that is corrupt and allows so many horrible things while with the Empire they enforce Law, Order and Justice. Sith Empire I just like cause they are badass but easily ambitious for power.

You really need to play this game. Its free and you dont need to pay to enjoy its best part (which is the 8 class stories). For all the content...you would beed 30$ for one-time subscription and 50$ (maybe less) to get Artifact Authorization for your entire account. But the best part is free to play so payment isnt necessary.
