All this from the critic who finally feels Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a justifible return to form of the original Star Wars films from the past. You have to laugh. Mark Kermode, your just another YES critic like all the rest. Had you panned SW:TFW's, i'm certain that Kermode would been barred from all future Disney screenings in the cinema.

You think the shitty prequels are better companion pieces to the original films? Maybe you dig boring characters walking around talking about taxes, personally I prefer silly swashbuckling action.

@@BackyardPix You missed the point of Star Wars if you saw it as only ever being a swashbuckling adventure. It was always political right from the opening with Leia on a diplomatic mission to bring Obi-Wan back with her. We also learn of an Imperial Senate being disbanded by an Emperor. The Prequels are necessary for understanding how the society we see in the Originals came to be. They expanded the scope of what a Star Wars story could be by giving us more story and scope to ponder. I much prefer to watch something original and thought provoking like this than the same story rehashed over and over again. Same with being played safe and predictable in a way that is only there to evoke nostalgia to take advantage of me. The trademarks of Disney Star Wars in a nutshell. Pew pew X-Wing!

its statements like this that make me sure all the critics that say Lucas was an egomaniac that produced crappy prequels are nuts!!!...if you compare what happens to palpatine with what happened to George Bushe's failing approval ratings after 9/11 you can see some very astute political metaphore...the guy that says i have no interest in seeing fight scenes comes off as a snobbish prick...shakespear staged fight scenes so don't act like high art is somehow "above" basic, primal, human, urges...

These critics need to shut up. They're as stupid as the remarks they make. "Overuse of CGI"; and these same critics like The Force Awakens... yet The Force Awakens (unoriginal copycat of A New Hope) would never have been possible if Lucas hadn't PUSHED THE TECHNOLOGY in the prequels. Lucas is better than all the fake and faux filmmakers in Hollywood.

Gee...Of course they r gonna bash it cause they fundamentally disagree with it being shown at Cannes n/or it being American prob didn't help either! They go on about GL being vain but apart from that poet guy the other three seemed so far up their own n each others' arse that it's a wonder they could breathe, much like that poor woman when she says without pausing to take a breath '' It doesn't belong at Cannes like the flawed, complex emotional art here'. So it's gotta be small, abstract n noncommercial like a film about a tin of beans for them to accept it? Yes the dialogue in ROTS is a bit clunky, it isn't as well paced as the OT SW films n some of the SFX are a bit much that they sometimes overshadow the scene but why can't it be flawed yet still relevant like the other art at Cannes supposedly was? When that poor woman said that SW ' Was just n expensive piece of rubbish...like gosh the evil Empire has taken over Cannes ' I don't think she even had the awareness to know that that is one of SW's most relevant n enduring themes. GL had to fight many studio executives to get the original SW made because at the time it was considered so experimental n left field n that he based much of the bureaucrats of the films' Empire on those studio execs. I found this review by watching a Camille Paglia video on how ROTS is one of arts greatest triumphs of the last 30 years but will never be seen as such because of the elitist art critics who only view real art as literature, paintings of old women n cows sliced in half. Each to their own n everyone is entitled to an opinion but after watching this I think Camille Paglia was right n that there r a lot of narrow minded, biased n elitist arseholes when it comes to the art community n critics seem to embody that in particular!

"At least its done as least its finished - please dont let us have episode 7 tonight" Well you've now got episodes 7, 8 and 9 and a death star plans prequel spin off and a han solo origin story and three seasons about a mandalorian, an obi wan kenobi series, boba fett series, Ahsoka series (a character introduced in an animated series and reappeared in a totally different animated series and then her origins as a baby was shown in yet another animated series), whatever the Acolyte is meant to be, and I still feel I'm missing something out somehow. Oh yeah Andor: a prequel to the prequel which is also getting multiple seasons.
