The thing with Anakin and Obi-Wan between episodes 2 and 3 is that Obi-Wan wasn't a father figure for Anakin. That would have been Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan was like the older brother who is in charge and the younger brother has to obey him. After episode 2 Anakin got knighted, so the dynamic changed. Obi-Wan stopped being authoritative and started treating Anakin as a partner and that helped a lot.

Episode 3's love story was more believable because after episode 2, Lucas realized he didn't like or have what it took to direct love scenes. He had Hayden and Natalie pretty much direct themselves in their scenes. Between Episode 2 and 3 there WAS an animated Clone Wars shows that lead us directly into Revenge of the Sith . Why Grievous coughs? Answered there....How did the Droids "kidnap" Palpatine...answered there...Anakin's scar? Answered there. Etc. So there actually is context that happened before Revenge of the Sith.

There WAS actually a Clone Wars show which came out between Episode 2 and 3, it's known as 2D Clone Wars or just Star Wars: Clone Wars (later show had THE in between). The new show has WAY more misadventures and friendly banter between Obi and Ani, but the old one already bridged the gap pretty believably. Basically, Anakin got the emotional (and physical) affection from his wife and after being knighted more respect from everyone, so there was just no reason for any antagonism towards Obi any more. Btw. the part where he was knighted was never adopted for the new show so I guess it's still canon.

Probably not the first one to say this buuuuuuut, technically we had a Clone Wars TV Show, to give us something that was happening between the releases of Episode 2 & 3. It was called Star Wars: The Clone Wars Microseries. Its on D+, its a great watch. Both Volumes put together, are the length is the average of one SW movie. The animation was done by (and I know I am going to get this wrong), Gennedy Taratovsky, they guy who did the old school Cartoon Network shows from the 90s, Samurai Jack, and Primal.

The Clone Wars is still created by George Lucas. The story was always there; however, Star Wars is too big of a story to tell in 6 movies. Every movie (excluding sequel trilogy) has a time gap between them. What happens between each movie is typically explored in other mediums such as animation, comics/graphic novels, video games, and books. It just doesn't seem possible to put all of that in movie form.

Revenge of the Sith is personally my favorite. Only because we have fleshed out Anakin and Obi-Wan's characters and relationship. You believe Old Ben when he tells Luke about his father being the best pilot, a cunning warrior and a good friend, not to mention the seven season Clone Wars series, the Kenobi and Ahsoka series ("I am what you made me...I am not your failure, Obi-Wan...You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did"..."It's never too late to learn, Snips"..."There's hope for you yet") making one care for the characters even more so Episode III hits harder in all the good ways.

In The Phantom Menace, if my research is correct, the man who was Darth Maul (Ray Park) was supposed to just be a sword instructor for the film. When George Lucas saw what he could do, he said, “You’re way too good, we’re going to put you in the film somewhere.” Shortly after, the original Darth Maul actor quit. So George asked Ray if he would like to be Darth Maul. And we are so so glad he said yes! 😅

Nah. The prequels are fine just as they are. When episode 3 came out most of us already watched the original Clone Wars (2003) show, which is necessary to understand how Anakin changed during the clone wars. The prequels are movies that need to be seen as something poetic and literary. Not something that would make sense to the mentality our society has. Remember, before the empire took over the galaxy was very different and one of those differences was that people had some sort of formality and diplomacy when it came to conflicts. That formal attitude got lost when the empire took over. So it makes sense that the prequels have a slow pacing since that’s the whole point, that you get to see everything in detail of how it was before Vader.

The Clone Wars 2008 animated series is entirely superfluous to understanding episode 1-3. Everything you need to get the characters and story is contained in the films. This is especially true for Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship. There is underlying resentment and difficulty in managing each other in episode 2. Anakin wants to do things his way and wishes Obi Wan appreicated that. Obi Wan wants to put Anakin on the right path but is overbearing. It's not hatred so much as frustration borne from caring. In ep 3 they have found a dynamic that works and they can more easily express their positive care for each other. Unfortunately events happen that plunge them right back into their old dynamic and it ends with Anakin haitng and trying to kill Obi Wan. All of this is in the films even ignoring the subtext of Qui Gon being the original mentor for Anakin and his differing style from Obi Wan causing friction because of Anakin's aptitude and expectations. I'd say consider the dialogue and acting choices but don't overthink things. Anakin being a rebellious teen is given context in the film but you don't need to understand it to recognise his rebellion as a valid trait. Same with his change in ep3. He simply matured, it happens the same happened with Luke from ep 5 to ep 6 in less time and with less of an explanation. Bro went from not finishing his training and not heeding Yoda's wisdom to becoming a stoic Jedi Knight after a year with no formal training or master (he didn't return to dagobah until ep 6). Don't overthink the change there were years in between where things happened and those things changed him. We don't need more details.

This comment spined out of control sorry. One of the biggest things that Clone Wars did for me was actual make lines from Revenge of the Sith make even more sense, and with the Final 4 Eps of Season 7, 9 to 12 happening during Revenge of the Sith there is an amazing tension waiting to happen as WE know Order 66 is going to happen, the "Bomb" under the table is counting down and we don't know when it will happen. Also with what I am suggesting to watch of Clone Wars is not that you have to React to them (even if I would very much enjoy watching that from you to get what you think of them) but for information that would probably be nice to know for the Live Action TV Shows, if you are going to do Reactions to them. Slight spoilers in the names past this but the show do be a bit old at this point lol. For Clone Wars I would suggest at least watching the (this is in order timeline wise) Nightsisters Arc, Mortis Arc, Umbara Arc, Zygerria Arc, Obi-Wan Undercover Arc, Maul Return Arc, Maul Rules Mandalore Arc, Ahsoka on the Run Arc, Order 66 Arc, Disappeared Arc, Force Ghost Arc, Bad Batch Arc, and the Siege of Mandalore Arc. This would lead to a total of 46 episodes out of the total 133 episodes, with an episode average of 23 mins that is 1058 mins, aka 17 Hours and 38 mins of stuff to watch instead of, 51 hours of stuff to watch. I personally would love to see you watch the Zillo Beast Arc because Godzilla Fan, and it comes before any of the Arcs I said before. Which would bring it to about 18 hours in total. Speaking of being a Godzilla Fan, thinking about other stuff I would love to see you watch and hopefully enjoy, I would suggest Legendary Pictures' Monsterverse: In order of release, Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla VS Kong (2021). As a fan of Godzilla but also knowing that most people don't like Subtitle's I do recommend this "Timeline" of movies as otherwise watching the OG Movies from Toho should be done with Subs not Dubs because whoever did the Dubs did not seem to care about the Movies in the Older Era's. Because I do love the Godzilla Franchise a stupid amount I'm just going to tell you some background information on the OG Japanese Movies, Godzilla Movies are split up into eras most of the time named after the Royal Family of who was rule-ing Japan, Showa Era (1954 - 1975) 15 Movies Heisei Era (1984 - 1995) 7 Movies Millennium Era (1999 - 2004) 6 Movies Reiwa Era (2015 - Present Day) 4 Movies right now but a 5th is coming out later this year My personal Favorite Era is the Heisei Era which is a Timeline of Movies Starting with the OG Movie: Godzilla (1954), The Return of Godzilla (1984), Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989), Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991), Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992), Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993), Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1995), and ending with: Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.

One thing that bugged me in these prequels was that the amount of stuff they tried to stack in such a small amount of time. Example: In Episode IV, we jumped from scenes with what was happening with the bad guys (Vader and Tarkin on the Death Star), to what the good guys were doing, following the group of heroes (together) as they moved forward in their quest/adventure. Versus in the prequels, we jumped from Obi-Wan, to Anakin, to the Senate, back to Obi-Wan, then to the Jedi Council, then to Darth Sidious, then back to Anakin and Padmé, then to Chancelor Palpatine... I understand why it got confusing for someone who wasn't a hard core fan to begin with. The more recent sequels are even worse. In my opinion. :)

I watched all 6 of your Star Wars reactions this week, and I really enjoyed watching your take on the series. I actually wholeheartedly agree with your criticisms of the prequels. I like them, but they have their flaws. You noticed them, but kept your view very well balanced, more so than I did when they came out. I disliked all of Episode I except the fighting scenes (I appreciate that one as a whole more now, but I still despise Jar Jar). The Ani-Obi dynamic from Ep II to Ep III is very stark and I think you're spot on saying that relationship needed to be fleshed out more on screen. When these came out we didn't have all of the Clone Wars series to rely on to give that context so it needed more time. Also, I'd like to say that I really enjoy your editing, like that Betelgeuse clip you tossed in here was just hilarious. Your sense of humor is fun, you're lively and animated and just plain fun to watch on top of being truly beautiful. Another SciFi movie that you should seriously consider reacting to is Dune Part 1. Dune was the main inspiration for Star Wars and the second part is coming out this year so it should get decent traction as a video. Another series you'd really like for just how real the characters are would be The Expanse, and that's 6 seasons I think, so that would be a nice one that could be an ongoing upload thing to give you a fun regular schedule which would help you grow. The main problem with the expanse is you'll want to binge watch it once you get past episode 4, it just keeps getting better and doesn't let up.

You should react to the 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars. It's about two hours of animated shorts so it's quick to watch the whole series, but it gives a more intense depiction of Star Wars than the 3D Clone Wars or the movies. Their live in attack of the clones was supposed to be awkward. Anikan was coming out of the awkward phase of his life. Star wars is all about maturing. And even with 3 movies its not easy to tell that "maturing" syory without alot of time jumps. Lucas did this very intentionally. You cant suck at directing after making generation defining movies and then making another amazing movie later without it all being intentional. He just had a story he wanted to tell. But it all had a purpose.even the bad dialogue. Lucas just knows people dont understand that star wars is a metaphor for buddhism and hes certainly not going to explain it

I agree with all of your points. I’ll add that the significant time jumps between each movie made it difficult to do the relationship building necessary. Also I do think that the Clone Wars series is great and adds the necessary context to Revenge of the Sith. However I don’t think it should be necessary to watch a TV series thats over 100 episodes to get proper context to a movie. There probably should have been at-least one more movie to do this.

Every point on this list is valid except the pod racing scene (lol) and obi/ani's relationship It's not even a hard disagreement either. If someone is a casual movie goer, I understand they're not gonna know or care about this, but there were comics, video games, and a clone wars miniseries that came out between AOTC and ROTS that develop their relationship. They're all not canon anymore though, so i guess it doesn't really matter good video and I hope to see more star wars content (or just any content in general) from you

Funnily enough, these were all popular opinions for around a decade until the sequels started coming out. The prequel hatred and nitpicking was so bad that some of the actors had their lives take turns for the worse. Jar Jars actor was contemplating suicide and the young Anakins actors life was pretty much ruined. There was even a documentary that a bunch of losers made basically making George Lucas out to be the devil who ruined their childhood. People would insult fans of the prequels and say you're a r*tard for liking them. Thank God that era isnt around anymore, even if the fanbase is still pretty toxic at the moment. Opinion 5 is definitely still divisive but many would agree.

So the first 3 seasons of the Clone Wars are pretty kid friendly, but after season 3 they get a bit more mature and I do recommend giving it a watch even if on your own time as it does answer a lot of your questions, which you are right, we didn't have it at the time and that's kind of a part of why it has such a huge following because it was meant to answer a lot of the audience's questions at the time. Especially in regards to how powerful Anakin actually is and how important his story is, which all 6 movies are all Anakin/Vader's story. This also happened with the Original Trilogy with books and comics coming out that dove more in-depth into the lore, which only a few select people got made fun of for knowing before "being a nerd and into Star Wars" became socially accepted. Lol The pod-race scene, which I agree was too long, was important to show how strong and smart Anakin was even before he was trained as a Jedi. He was 9 and doing things that practically no other 9 year old human was doing and even most adults probably wouldn't be able to do, such as how calm he was under intense pressure. Like if most kid's pods didn't start right off the bat like the way Anakin's did they would fuss and cry and give up, but he worked through trouble shooting his pod and got back into it despite being so far behind due to a late start, also when pieces of his pod were being damaged he was able to, again as a 9 year old kid, critically think and work through the problems mid-race and on-the-fly, it wasn't just meant to be a fun little race to extend the film's run time, it was meant to example part of why Qui-Gon felt so strong about him because keep in mind, they didn't go there to free Anakin, they only went there for parts for the ship. Also, I saw your brother say that Padme groomed Anakin, which is wild, lol, but nah, if anyone groomed Anakin it was definitely Palpatine/Sidious, obviously not for anything sexual, but to manipulate Anakin into being his apprentice, which the Clone Wars shows more of. All in all, you have some really good points that you made, but a lot of them can be answered by looking into the other Star Wars mediums, which I know is a lot, but definitely help with understanding the lore even more.

I find the pacing for the first two as too slow - they both seem to spend 85% of the movie on build up - there isn't a traditional 3 act structure and there's so, so much "walking and talking". Then the final 15% of the films are mental / explosions / action. It should have been spread out more.

As for the topic, i definitely agree that revenge of the sith is the best star wars film. It just has everything cranked up to an 11. Episode 1 imo would be on par if jar jar has less lines, and episode 2's main issue for me is that while george is a master of plot, worldbuilding, and wide shots - he hates writing & directing dialogue (especially romance)... which bleeds through to the screen. Episode 2's romance not only suffers from that, but it also suffers from like 80% of the romance scenes being cut to bring the movie down below 3 hours of runtime. There's a lot of romance development - including scenes that feel natural - that were cut for time and it's a shame since most of it is padme's side of the love story.

It's funny because I went to see Phantom Menace as a kid and my favorite Star Wars movies are the originals. But I do have a soft spot for the prequels. Attack of the Clones is ass though. I saw that movie in theaters as a kid and my opinion still hasn't changed since 😂

I would recommend watching the Sequel Trilogy and reaching your own conclusion. The sequel trilogy like the prequel trilogy and original trilogy has it flaws the same way it has its good features. Incel, racist, loser, douchebags tend to hate on the sequel trilogy for mundane reasons. I said what I said. Sue me later :)

I agree with you 95% we should get married, lol. The pod racing scene had great sound, that was about it. It was long & boring. The love story was awful. It wasn't great in ROTS either. Long, boring, & not believable. It made my ass itch as well(although I've never used that term before). Anakin was done horribly. OB1 sucked in TPM. He got better in AOTC. Their relationship was not well developed. ROTS is not the best film. You were already invested in the characters. More importantly it was the how much comparatively better ROTS was better than the previous two. For example if you're working hard long hours & aren't getting good sleep, then you get a good night's sleep you feel like a million bucks. You really don't feel better than you did before the two nights of bad sleep, it's just that you feel so much better than the day before. Another example is if you're sick & then you feel better two days later, you feel so much better, but you're still a little sick. That's ROTS. It was so much better than the first two that it felt amazing. No way that its better than the original trilogy. Hayden & Portman are not good actors. Hayden has never been good in any acting role. His best was Jumper, the movie I liked, but he was just average. I always chalked up to Padme's character being poor writing & directing, until I saw her in that last Thor movie where Portman(whom I've hung out with) was awful. She's average at best. ROTS is OK. The end is good, the emperor is great, & he kind of makes the movie. Dooku was great, Quigon was great, Yoda was great, Darth Maul was great, Bail Organa was great, Jango Fett was great, there were some side characters that were really good, but that was about it. Sanuel Jackson was bad in all of them. Its hard to believe that Samuel Jackson can't pull off an action fighting role, which leads to my next point. I 100% agree that the pacing & acting was horrible. Lucas can't direct. Plain & simple. The ending of ROTS was great, but the Padme scenes weren't, they were just better than the previous movie but not good. The lightsaber scenes were amazing. Star Wars has always been about the force & light sabers, that is until Disney took over & ruined those as well. I 95% agree with everything you said. As an adult I was never into animation besides South Park, which is brilliant. Then the clone wars came out & I loved it. It really flushes everything out & brings context to Anakin, OB1, MAUL, & a lot of the lore. It makes the prequels a lot better. I actually like Rebels more. The story is amazing. You'll absolutely cry in Rebels. There's nothing unpopular about your takes. Most ppl agree with you. Losers living in their parents basement living their lives behind a keyboard who've never gone on a date & are socially awkward think your take is unpopular. Nice review.

I think because of the backlash of Anakin and Padme's chemistry in AOTC, for ROTS a dialog coach was brought in to help Hayden even though the " no because I'm so in love with you" line is still cringe in my opinion.

First and for most, people, get one thing straight: George Lucas wrote Stars Wars for twelve year-old boys. Any analysis that goes any deeper than that is moot.

Your belief in the Annakin/Padme chemistry matches the softening of Padme from being a bada$$. I did not like Padme's softening, but I did not notice it during first-run viewing because, Hayden Christiansen, not a fan.

I agree with you on everything but the last one. TBH the main reason why I love Star Wars so much is because of the lightsaber fights. The prequels took them and turned it up to a million. Like being a young nigga and seeing that shit, to this day inspires me to believe I can do anything. In regards to Anakin and Padmé, yeah their relationship needed some milk cause that was horrendous. Especially given the fact that she needed to be Luke and Leia's mom. Also, why are they so far in age? As far as Obi and Anakin, I've always said, we didn't need Ep. 1. Like we could've just jumped right in with Obi and Anakin, working together. Especially if they was "bros". Also, I felt like we should've gotten more with Anakin as Vader, WITHOUT the suit. We get to see the actual change and see Vader actually turn on his brothers and sisters and show much of a real travesty his betryal was that Obi-Wan spoke about in the OT. Best movies The Empire Strikes Back Revenge of the Sith The Last Jedi

My problem with the prequels are the movies look fake, the actors lack energy, the dialogue is delivered in this weird shakespearean style, Obi Wan is awful in episode 1 but gets much better after that, Anakin is too young in the first one and horrible in the second one, gets much better in the third one. Oh, and as you said,, the pacing often stinks. People love Revenge of the sith but the scenes with Anakin and Padme are meh in IMO, Natalie Portman’s delivery of some of the terrible dialogue is really flat, Lucas seemed to be more concerned with making her look beautiful than making her an interesting character. And my biggest problems with Revenge of the Sith is it’s clear Palpatine is the sith lord, yet the jedi stupidly send Anakin to spy on him? Huh? Why not just have Samuel Jackson, Yoda, Obi Wan confront him with 50 other jedi? Also, Anakin falls to the dark side because he is promised that Palpatine knows the secret to saving Padme, which is later downgraded to “i know we can find the secret if we work together”….and yet despite being lied to Anakin still decides to follow him to the dark side? it’s a good movie, but the more you think about the less it makes sense.

The prequels, when they were released, were generally disliked with Revenge of the Sith by far being the most liked movie of the three. Most of your unpopular opinons of the prequels were the popular opinions of the prequels back in the day because as you said all they had back then were those movies. The clone wars show is really what caused fans to turn their opinions on the prequels and recognize them for how insanely good the overarching story of Anakins corruption to the dark side is. The prequels are so much better when you've watched the clone wars because you understand how Aanakin and Obi Wan became respectful with each other, you have an emotional connection to the clones because you've seen them fighting alongside the Jedi (and this wasnt the case when the movies were released because the clones didnt have any character moments, they were just plot devices to get rid of the jedi.) And by far the biggest service the clone wars show does for the prequels is turning order 66 into a pretty random and kind of out of nowhere scene into an absolute heartbreaking scene that makes star wars what it is. So to sum it up the prequels definitly are not perfect and they have quite a few flaws but they are an absolute masterpiece of storytelling.
