People bash this fight for how Grievous didn’t kill Ahsoka but I feel like at this point in the series her holding her own and BEING FORCED TO RETREAT makes a lot of sense. It was a little goofy when they fought in season 1 but by now she’s had a lot of combat experience, dueled with many different opponents, everyone tends to overlook her skills when she was trained by one of the strongest Jedi in the Republic.

I mean c'mon, as powerful as mace windu is, I doubt he could take on an entire droid army by himself while only using the force. If this were true, then they could've sent mace to win every fight. Sure grievous could've been better, but if he was as powerful as he was in the 2003 micro series, then all of his fights would've been predictable. It took me a while to realize WHY this fight is so fun to watch (other than the music) and its because its one of the only fights in star wars history thats so visceral and physical. Most feel at least somewhat fantastical and look more choreographed than anything: like every single movement was planned rather than done in the heat of the moment. Most of the later clone wars duels accomplished this well. The fight feels grounded. Neither of these characters feel like untouchable dancers until the scene needs them to be hurt. It actually feels like they're swinging to kill.

This is honestly one of the best fights in the entire clone wars and shows both of these competent warriors at their best. Ahsoka is dodging and and doing the best she can to Keep up with grievous Relentless aggression. The general only uses his spinning hands as a way of approaching and hes almost always on the attack, perfectly fitting his aggressive nature. However you can see at 0:58 Where grievous Is actually dodging and weaving out of Ahsoka's strikes shows his skill quiet well. Both characters use the Skill of duel blading to the best of their ability, using their other weapons to Try and blind side the opponent in Ahsoka's case, or use 2 blades to block 1 lightsaber attack in grievous case. The interesting thing with grievous is he never really exploits his four arms to overwhelm Ahsoka, either as an attempt to win honourably or show his arrogance. This fight is visceral and brutal and its oddly phenomenal. It shows how skilled both of these warriors are and its arguably the closest thing 2008 grievous gets to 2003 grievous.

I wish people would lower the expectations so much, I get it, you like the 2003 Clone Wars better cause of the way Grievous was in it, and I like it too equally as much as I like this series. Lighten up, if you don't like it, don't watch it, and don't complain. I can't believe everyone wanted her to die here just so it could be declared a show for adults. There are many ways this show can appeal to an older audience, not just through blood, gore, and death. Besides, I'm happy she lived till her departure at the end because I liked her right away.

Nick Dwyer Very true, and the series matures as you keep watching, lots of dark events and yes this is apparently canon unlike CW 2003. For all of the people complaining that Grievous doesn't kill Jedi in this version: What do you think he's doing between episodes? Grievous' collection of lightsabers expands every time he's not in an episode. Also, if he wanted to kill Ahsoka right away, he would have. Grievous was toying with her. He saw hope in her eyes and he wanted to let that build, be augmented with confidence before he overpowered her, outmaneuvered her, and then killed her slowly, painfully, and in every way that one fears. He would then watch that hope and confidence drain from her eyes just as she would take her last breath. The thing is, Ahsoka made her escape just before Grievous could do that.

I can get his overconfidence costing him some victories like this one if it actually felt deserved. If he'd been offing Jedi throughout the series then I could see this more as him being overconfident and toying with this padawan and then losing an opportunity at a kill, but it doesn't feel like he deserved to do that. This just makes him look incompetent. There were a number of solid victories and Jedi deaths they could have given. Like that one air battle where Anakin gets injured. Instead of some random Command Droid it could have been Grievous. With Master Dai on the Seperatist conquest of Ryloth they could have easily shoehorned Grievous in there conquering the planet and killing Master Dai. Plenty of chances to build up this character as a major threat.

For everyone saying TCW breaks continuity and doesn't make sense with the dialogue in the movies here's the explanation: General Grievous' amour & cybernetics we're now updated and I don't think he used the spinning arms to that extent on Obi before. So during ROTS that's why Obi-Wan looks shocked. Anakin and General Grievous have never met in the show so that they could have their meeting in ROTS be their first since their dialogue in the movie hints that it was their first, thus keeping continuity. Obi-Wan's line about, "this time we will take him together" is due to their last duel; Anakin and Obi we're dueling the Count and near the end, the Count was escaping on a leaving ship, so Obi had to stay behind to help force push Anakin onto the ship resulting in Anakin and the Count fighting with just them two in the end (the Count still got away). Another duel months before hand, had Anakin dueling the Count on Naboo and Obi-Wan didn't show up until the end. So Obi's line makes sense. Plus all those duels we're months before the end of the war, Anakin was closer to the dark side now and his hair was longer and Jedi robes were different showing time in the war has gone by. General Grievous always repeats lines like, "your lightsaber will make you fine addition to my collection" AND "trained in the Jedi arts..." line was never said before and now, as stated above, the General was now updated with better cybernetics (compare his S7/ROTS model with his earlier ones in the TCW). Plus he's based off of Sunday morning hero vs. villians cartoons and that's how the villians are with repetitive monologues etc. Ashoka wasn't in ROTS movie due to being on Mandalore and her coldness to Anakin helps make his transition seem even smoother than the movie alone. Ashoka and the events of ROTS actually blend together so that you can see them taking place side by side. Ashoka enters the war meeting with Windu and Yoda (during the I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi...scene) after Anakin leaves and Yoda delivers the line, "grave care we must take" and helps keep continuity that much further. TCW near the end further develops the outer rim sieges when Anakin tells Padmè the sieges kept them apart. The end of TCW S7 shows Anakin briefly on Coursant (begining of S7) explaining how she can pregnant. They also explain and show how Anakin could only briefly hologram contact Padmè here and there further explaining how in ROTS that he missed her and how she was pregnant. TCW S6 & S7 shows Palpatine grow in political power now controlling the banks (helps explain funding for the death star) and the war growing. They show Anakin begin to mistrust the Jedi after expelling his Padawan despite being a war hero and saving Windu (S7) and others. They show how order 66 works. The movies are made to be understood on their own and the shows give deeper meaning and context WHILE KEEPING continuity. George made the movies and helped write and develope the show. They flow, "their like poetry". Don't just hate to hate, TCW has some of Star Wars' best moments.

I’m so sick of everyone complaining about how nerfed Grievous was. I kinda like how he leads from afar rather than in the front line because we already have so many lightsaber wielding soldiers and generals in the front lines and it is interesting to become accustomed to a character’s tactics. I also love me a flawed character and this version is much more arrogant and opportunistic but still very powerful making his losses believable but his wins satisfying and understandable. Not only that but he had his cool moments in this fight and people only seem to remember the end of it when he is hit with a touch of irony of the ship’s blasters as he brags in anger about how he can’t be defeated. The old version was just you waiting for him to smash his opponents in some “cool” way but in this version I can look forward to his corny dialogue, escapes, and scummy tricks making his episodes a lot more fun and the actions leading up to the predictable ending less predictable. Not only that but he is still very skilled in combat and leadership anyways and he has gotten very very close at times but their is also something called story telling and plot so alas Grievous must be defeated.

@@thahoule7924 except people hate this version of him because they are fanboying about a different version of him- this is George Lucas’ vision of the character: a coward who talks big up against characters with omega plot armor. And it isn’t as if he didn’t have his fair share of victories either and when we often see him in the clone wars it’s when he has an advantage and the republic is going on a counter strike. Ultimately you can’t really say that this isn’t what was intended for General Grievous because this is his portrayal in most of his media appearances including a mainline movie. And it isn’t as if he doesn’t target nor fight Jedi successfully. He has a pretty expansive trophy room in his lair- most of the Jedi he doesn’t manage to kill in the show are trying to flee from him as well. Just because a majority of the fandom wanted something different from him doesn’t mean that this version is wrong and that I can’t enjoy this version of him. I wrote my initial comment because I’m fairly alone in my liking of him and wanted to defend this version of the character. You can enjoy the Grievous from legends and the original clone wars cartoon but that wasn’t canon for very long and it wasn’t even Disney who decanonized it. Then everyone in that show was WAY more powerful too- look at Mace Windu up against the super battle droids. So overall it wasn’t just Grievous who was “nerfed” after 2003 but he’s the only one people have a problem with? People aren’t even acknowledging the overall power balancing differences in that show when they get angry about “what happened to Grievous.”

Many people criticise the flawed decisions George made when creating the Prequels and his questionable vision for Grievous' character is no different.

@@dannyboi5887 That's fair- I've only been a big Star Wars fan for about 5 years now, and the Revenge of the Sith Grievous was kind of the first character I fell in love with from Star Wars. Without my discovery of him I probably wouldn't have gotten into the series. Melodramatic and arrogant villains with deceptively cool designs are where I live (lol) So I don't have a lot of the same beef with the direction George Lucas took Star Wars in the Prequels than a lot of the other more long standing fans. (but there are no sequels in Ba Sing Se) I'm an OG Trilogy fan all the way when it ultimately comes down to it, I could go without either the Prequels or Sequels- so when assessing the Prequels as a whole I have more to say about the directing, pacing, acting, and generally poor plotting of those movies than I do with a singular mischaracterization which ultimately did not change how anyone watches the OGT. So to speak, the change in Grievous is not as questionable as C3PO being built by Anakin, for example. So there in-lies the difference for me... I think with his current characterization he is also a good foil to Darth Vader which was the main and original intention of his character; there isn't anything really different between Vader and the 2003 Grievous personality wise as good foils ought to be. Others and you are free to shit on the Clone Wars (2008) Grievous, but for me he will always be "Muh (Guilty Pleasure) Best Boi" who provided what was necessary for the overarching narrative of Anakin's story at the time.

its not yet canon that she lives past TROS. Filoni said he thinks that, but JJAbrams clearly thought different. So far, its, more or less up in the air if shes alive there or not.

I’ve never understood these fighting styles, if grevious has 4 sabers and he is using 2 of them to keep Ahsoka at bay, can he use the other 2 to chop her up? Why does he just not use them?

She would have broken off if he had gone for the kill, granted there's no excuse for not crushing her with his foot.
