I think Star Wars became too popular and THEY(!) had to make it more mainstream ,so that it wouldn't endanger their monopoly.

It definitely had a comeback as the franchise was more or less forgotten about by 1986, except by hard-core fans.

@@classicalvintagecollector Without interference Star Wars would have taken over the whole country in no time. That's why they had to make the Star Wars Cartoon so strange that people would lose focus in star wars. Nothing happens by accident. The Power of the Force 2 line was there to keep Star Wars in the mainstream corner.

@@JustMe-tm5dc Interesting angle, but not what I have read. What I have been told is that Lucas wanted to work on other projects. He went through a divorce during ROTJ and his wife added the human side of things to the plot. He was exhausted, both mentally and physically, and needed a break. The Star Wars cartoons fell victim to poor storyline writing, like episodes 7-9 did. Kenner tried to soldier on, but the action figure lines had also moved on and MOU, GI Joe, Transformers and others were now the major sellers. Kenner lost enough business that Hasbro bought it out in 1991.

@@classicalvintagecollector Yeah you can tell that the prequels lack touch. It's like reading out something very fast reasoning it's a long story. With the Star Wars Cartoon like Droids I heard that the original plot was declined due being too Star Warsy. I guess the original plot was very numb due Lucasfilm being in its recently changed formation. Nonetheless I still believe that people of influence kept an eye on Star Wars . Star Wars is like The Godfather to the Mafia. You can't let it freely roam around.
