➡ What to visit on your way to the sea?
1. Mrežnica River - one of the four rivers that meet in Karlovac. It is considered special due to its large number of waterfalls, totalling 93. It springs near Slunj and flows through karst terrain until it finally flows into the Korana.
2. Rastoke - extraordinary beautiful watermill village situated where the blue-green waters of river Slunjcica flows into the Korana river. Most of the houses were built at the end of the 19th and the beginning o-f the 20th century. Because of its extraordinary natural beauties and historical tradition, in 1962 Rastoke village fell under the protection of the State Directorate for cultural and historical heritage.
3. Plitvice Lakes National Park - the largest and oldest national park in Croatia. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, due to its outstanding and picturesque series of tufa lakes, caves, connected by waterfalls. Each of the Plitvice Lakes has a story or legend to tell. Most lake names stem from true events.
4. USA locomotive in Gračac - preserved railroad locomotive manufactured by H.K. Porter Inc. from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
5. Zrmanja canyon - untouched piece of heaven on earth with unique river landscape, a place where Karl May "Winnetou" movies were shot. River Zrmanja was known to the ancient Romans as Tedanius.
6. Fortress of Klis - medieval fortress situated above a village bearing the same name, near Split. From its origin as a small stronghold built by the ancient Illyrian tribe Dalmatae, becoming a royal castle that was the seat of many Croatian kings. Klis was used as a location for the fictional city of Meereen in the HBO series Game of Thrones.

The state road D1 (Croatian: Državna cesta D1) is a national highway in Croatia. It is a one-lane highway that spans from Macelj border crossing in the north via Krapina, Zagreb, Karlovac, Slunj, Gračac, Knin, Sinj, ending in Split. It is 421.2 kilometres (261.7 mi) long overall.
