I spent my childhood picking coffee and walking along with my aunties, uncles and older siblings(Cousins) who carried it to be sorted and husked at a nearby factory that my grandad helped build. And no, it wasn't child labor; Coffee was a community activity that the youngest and the oldest enjoyed taking part in. I loved eating the ripe berries while we picked them. You guys just took me back to my childhood. Enjoy Kenya. Even though Dave doesn't like coffee, I'm sure the memories are worth something. Bless you guys. Go back to you families on the holidays and tell them what it is really like over here. Safiri salama and karibu tena.

Kenyan coffee, which is the arabica type and superior to the robusta type happens to be the best in the world. Most coffee from other parts of the world are blended with Kenyan coffee to improve their richness. Sad fact, in the 80s and 90s Kenya used to produce lots of coffee and that has greatly decreased over the years due to poor returns. Recently, returns have improved though coffee is still not grown to the levels they were in the 80s and 90s.

I hope they also told you how badly they pay the pickers and every other coffee plantation laboror ever! I'm talking from experience. I've picked coffee for Ksh 25 for a 20 liter bucket. Fuck the charities they're fronting as PR. Let them just pay their laborors right. I'm sorry. The whole coffee mess in Kenya is just a trigger for me. And to think a cup made with 20g is worth Ksh 300! Okay. I'm done ranting!
