Contestants: Jared Cruce vs Mike Russo - Playing Games: Zoar, Stargate, Stern's Journey, Star Trek, Galaxian - Grand Prize: Munch Mobile Video Arcade Game
While it lasted back in the days, this was my favorite video gaming show. I use to look forward to each episode and dream of being on one of those shows. But alas, I had rolls of quarters and my local arcade to enjoy my favorite games week after week. Those times are irreplaceable.

In one episode, I remember he played and beat Sinistar, a notoriously tough game from 1983. In one of the last interviews he did before he died, he said he trash talked kids online while playing games, so sounds like he definitely continued with the hobby haha.

@@tomxconn And there's an odd connection. When the pilot was filmed, Alex Trebek was host. But when Trebek was assigned for pilots that would lead to the show that made his career to the end, Richards got the gig. And later, Richards hosted practice games for players arriving for Jeopardy! to get them familiar with Hollywood Center Studios. (The practice game host was in all likelihood the official backup.)

The kids didn't understand, but it was a reference to the Klunks on Treasure Hunt (which Edwards had hosted). In reality, the losers probably earned nice consolation prizes from the sponsors. No Klunks. Their parents probably understand the "no Klunks" reference since it was Geoff's best known show.

Starcade needs to focus on both console and arcade games. The rules need to change with the times. The console games have equaled or matched the arcade games.

I know this was posted four years ago, but wow, what a nostalgia trip here! I do remember watching this show from time to time whenever I could. At the time, we lived so far out in the boonies of NW PA that could we could not get TBS, thus could only watch it if I was at a friends house that did have it. At the time this particular episode was aired, I would've been the same age as the older contestant. I do have a couple of arcade cabinets in my basement gameroom - "Choplifter" and "1943 - Battle over Midway". Also pretty cool there is a "retrocade" just down the road from my place, so get to play these classics in an actual arcade setting again.

If they ever bring this show back, they should include pinball games and those racing games where you sit down and have a steering wheel in front of you. Some good examples of that game include 18 Wheeler and Hydro Thunder (my favorite).

check out starcade.tv and watch Episode #94 -- it was a show featuring only Pole Position II. TX-1 was the game you played to win the Grand Prize - TX-1 was a sit-down, 3-screen driving game - it was in prototype supplied to Starcade by Atari.

That was just for show and likely producers would tell players what Geoff would after the match ended. In reality, he returned the tokens to the staff (for legal reasons, they don't use real money on television - for example, on Price, the perfect bid bonus is fake "television only" money handed to the player, and must be returned to the staff after the pricing game). He received good prizes for his appearance, although not as nice as the winner. For parents, the fact Geoff had hosted Treasure Hunt and Jackpot was the bigger meet-and-greet.
@Onijsan

@@WhiteHatBobbyAbsolutely for sure. I know he got other prizes and such at the time. I was just mearly saying that as a joke. I just found it hilarious that he got that "Hey buddy here's some coins loser... go practice more" moment on tv. Tying to keep that smile on his face is priceless.

@@Onijsan It's just parodying the Klunks on Treasure Hunt (a women-only game show that Geoff hosted), or a riddle from Jackpot. Those were silly callbacks to his career. Later on, he guest hosted Let's Make a Deal 1984 when Monty Hall was sick.

looking for another videogame-gameshow can only remember that I could watch it sometimes on TV here in germany when visiting my grandparents but not sure it the show itself was german / german dub or not - should have been between 1990 and 2000 the show was about several children competing to determine who can challenge and an adult-"boss" dressed up in some videogame/villain/smth-cosplay who appeared mostly rather agressive iirc (at least from a childs pov decades ago) and rather overpowered compared to the kids... mfg Olli
