They captured the three factions so well in the music. Terran is pure military badass with a kind of air of discovery; Protoss is the brooding majesty of infinite, incomprehensible space; zerg is synth creepiness, conjures the image of infestation and chitinous, writhing monstrosities
@Quadr44t

well said Edit: after listening to it all again... Protoss and Zerg are sooooo underrated (by me at least). While gaming you never hear all that ambiance (YES EXECUTOR!!!! STATE YOUR WILL, or zerg with MRRRGUUAAGGH HZZZGFEUGN, etc is what dominates, volume-wise). Some spacy shit they made. Very interesting music🤔 (but yeah less catchy than terran ones).

I also love how these themes changed over time. For instance, In I, Terrans are depicted as conquerors, while in II, they come across more as survivors. And it's all through the musical choices.

If you listen to Zerg One carefully. It's sort of a build up to an event. At around 41:00 you hear the moments before the event. At 41:30 the music has reduced and you distinctly hear breathing - ragged breathing. Something is born! The breathing slows down, the music rebuilds post event. Finally towards the end you hear what sounds like stronger, aggressive breathing. I like to think this event is Kerrigan reborn. Next to Terran One it is my favorite music.

Man I think I realize why I love this game so much. It was always the music that captures the atmosphere. And when you were playing high or drunk, you would enter these lobbies and you instantly feel part of a community. You never felt alone! And you'd have fights and drama and someone would always crash your game lol. The reasons why SC2 sucks for me is because the music does not capture the atmosphere of the game, it's just a generic background song. And when you log into SC2 you are greeted with a wasteland. No one there to instantly chat to you, you have to look to your right and chat with people that might or might not be online. And when you pick a game, you cannot talk to anyone because the computer is searching the players for you. You can try custom games, but nobody is there... . I can't believe Diablo 3 went into the gutter and SC2 is barely holding on. I don't know whats happening with WOW because I never played that game in my life, which is weird because I've been with Blizzard since the tides of darkness. The magic card game called Heartshone looks fun but it's not a major premise. I'm looking forward towards the future and all I see is another shitty SC2 expansion. Diablo 3 is dead, nobody wants to give an expansion to that game because it would barely make anymore money. Now, a new game has come out. When I heard about this I was excited. It's Blizzard, they always create something new and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL -- "AN EXCITED ADVENTURE!". But it turned out to be another generic shooter. This is why I consider Blizzard Entertainment to be dead. I only see Activision now. Pump out more games! "No I don't care if the campaign and story was written by a 4th year old, just pump out all these games now!" If you honestly think the story in SC2 or Diablo 3 was decent then you've never read a good story in your life.

+Perfect Dark Yup, destroying the old game format from BW where you could play custom games anytime with anyone and forcing Ladder on everyone was a huge mistake. Most people didn't play BW for Ladder, basically everyone I played with back in the played BGH, ZC 3vs3 or Fastest Maps. Also Tower defenses and hero vs swarm maps (not my thing though). Why Blizzard chose to destroy a chat system that worked and a custom game system that everyone loved is mind-boggling. The equivalent move to this stupidity would be Valve completely doing away with pub servers in CS:GO and forcing everyone to play in 5 vs 5 scrims.
