UPDATES: Chris Brenner updated his 'R2' so that it DOES work with the Rejuvenator. He also built a modern 8MB of modern non-autoconfig fast RAM to work with the StarDrive. SADLY, my dear friend Chris Brenner died on August 8, 2022. The StarDrive actually IS unobtanium again. But more importantly so is my friend. I'm going to miss him terribly.

Revisited this video today. I have had the stardrive R2 and not attempted to run it. Been rolling with the awesome Parceiro. That said something cool about those Microbotics cases on the side and running the zip drive off. I really enjoyed that

Totally agree. I’ve been making my StarDrive and Parceiros unique in terms of what they provide lately. More in that really soon. I’m finally firing up the engines and getting back into things. :)

@@AmigaLove I have a CLtd Model # Scsi-1000. It's mechanically similar to your Microbotics Starboard2. It even uses the same AMD 5380 chip. I also have a Parceiro II. I would like to double my pleasure and use them at the same time. This will require a PCB to bridge the gap. One can be seen in several places during the video. Where can I get one? What are your experiences with this combination? Naturally I'm interested in a uSD solution just like you are. Do you have any thoughts on the Blue SCSI V2?

I probably ought to open up my Microbotics RAM Expander and see what is inside of it. I have only hooked it up once to see if it worked! Looks like I may need to order a Stardrive for it, just because!

Great video , i'm curious wouldn't the ACA500+ do most if not more of the features on the 1000? i don't have an A1000, but i have an A500 with an ACA500+ on it and was thinking it can do all that, obviously it sticks out the side of the case , but to me that's the only downside? wondering what your opinion on it is?
@AmigaLove
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ohrom! You know, I also have an ACA500+ and I've never attached it to my A1000. I'm sometimes dumb like that, but the aesthetics bug me big time. I've even talked to Jens about it. He told me straight up he had an A1K designed "ACA1000" that would be vertical in design, and forward-facing. For the ACA500+ to work with the A1K you have to essentially install it backwards. On top of that - and I realize I'm a very odd use case here - but it won't play nice with an A1K that has a Rejuvenator. And my Rejuve'd A1K is my Daily Driver. I have a buddy who has the same setup, and after using his ACA500 with it he wound up selling the ACA. 25% of the time it simply wouldn't boot. Now, if Jens ever made/sold his ACA1000 maybe I'd change my mind. But from what I can tell he thinks the market is too small for it to be worth his while.

I was sorry to hear about Chris passing. I don’t want to sound insensitive, but do you know if his work on the StarDrive and the multifunction module has been preserved? It would, i think, be a nice legacy if his schematics, pcb layout gerber files, source code, etc was open sourced - I’m tinkering with a legacy original hardware stardrive and only discovered Chris’s awesome work yesterday and today while looking for links, or a GitHub, or a download, I instead discovered Chris is no longer with us.

Some of it was preserved, but is in a state of limbo. I've been working with his nephew for the past year to try and transfer his work over to myself so I could indeed preserve it. But life has been challenging for both families in the past year. I have hope it will get done before the end of 2023.

@@Abrothers100 Chris had the idea of ordering a small batch of edge connectors (like the connector the Starboard2 uses to pop onto the A1K) and create a terminator out of it. That way we could plug it onto the Starboard's pass-through. I think that's what he was pondering.

Same. You know, I think it's partly due to my affection for this setup and my friendship with Chris - I still use this setup as my A1K daily driver over my Parceiro, even though the Parceiro is about 100X better in terms of function and convenience. It's probably also partly why I have taken a slight hiatus from my daily Amiga obsessions and focused so hard on C64/128 these past two years. The Amiga setup in this video is one of my most prized pieces of vintage computer goodness. But it also makes me a little sad. Most of that has subsided but it's still there. I want to get back into it more regularly before the end of the year. In fact, one of my next videos will be about a piece of rare hardware only made for Amiga that I acquired - can't wait to show you!

Yes, we need an updated StarBoard (3) and case. It should be easier to design than the StarDrive! Could also build both upgrades into it, along with allowing for 8MB FastRAM. Although, an 68881/2 is not that useful with a 68000, so just the StarDrive would be sufficient, and, since that's already been done that would be far easier.
@AmigaLove

@@RetroDawn I think if you reverse engineer the whole thing, you're still going to miss out on the really gorgeous metal case. Honestly to replace it all, I think you might be better off just grabbing a Parceiro and running with it. That's easily one of my favorite upgrades in years for my Amiga 1000.
