I'm still testing the game out on the Steam Deck and the Ally. I've found that if you use the actual Low preset and don't touch the render resolution, which by default is 50%, the game is playable on the Steam Deck and the Ally. In my upcoming Steam Deck vs. Ally video I'll be using the default render resolution for each preset instead of 100% render resolution.

Nice to see an honest review from someone that actually LIKES the game rather than an overly biased review from someone who actively hates it.

Hey, just a heads up. Just received SteamOS 3.5 update on the Preview Channel, and it is playing much better now. Consider making an update video. And in a related note, I'm impressed by what Starfield considers "Low settings", the game is beautiful!

That's awesome news! 😄 Thanks for letting me know about the SteamOS 3.5 update - it's great to hear that it's improved gameplay. I'll definitely consider making an update video to check out the changes. And I totally agree about Starfield's "Low settings", it really feels like high or medium settings on other games.

Maybe FSR3 will save the day eventually.

AMD has said that FSR3 is recommended when your system can run the game at 60 fps or more. FSR3 is similar to DLSS3, which unlocks the frame rate and creates fake frames, but this lumps all the work on the GPU and that's the problem: the Steam Deck GPU is not powerful enough for this. There is a higher chance that Valve and Bethesda release some optimization patches and/or shaders caches for achieving close to 30 fps in cities and some open areas than FSR3 "saving the day".

on steam deck, my performance is consistent. all low settings, motion blur off, render resolution to 80%, sharpening 50% and Film Grain to 0.0 you're welcome ;) buying an xbox series s right away so i can play it on 1440p TVs., my PC is, alas, outdated.

I am pretty sure that we will see a patch or mod coming that will allow to reduce the details further (like 1/2x the polygon count in models) or other type of optimization as many regular pc user will also complain about the performance of Starfield on their machine. Remember how Cyberpunk patches improved performance? I guess it will be the same. And the modding community has always made wonders to improve things beyind what Bethesda want to do.

Bethesda is using their ancient game engine still...thats why they cannot produce seamless planet to space travel without loading screens.

Great point! Bethesda's continued use of their older game engine has certainly been a topic of debate among fans. The absence of seamless planet-to-space travel due to loading screens is a drawback many have noted. I personally think that there are too many loading screens, specially if you want to travel between planets. Thanks for bringing this up! 👍

Want to play so bad torn between this or baldurs gate
@benchmarkbros

I think Baldur's Gate is a better game. Starfield feels like a worse version of No Man's Sky regarding space exploration and imerssion, but with a better story and combat. Baldur's Gate on the other hand is like reading a book mixed with turned based combat. If you plan to plan on the Steam Deck you should know that Baldur's Gate is playable while Starfield, well...

Starfield uses FSR2, and there's the possibility that it may use FSR3 in the future, which could potentially double the FPS through frame interpolation.
