This was sooo helpful. I am on 6 heavily wooded acres south of Gainesville Fl. You give me hope that having the Starlink face north, which is my best open area, it will work.

I ended up putting it on the roof as close to the screen room as possible. We have about 10% obstruction but it doesn't seem to affect it too much. We are NW of Gainesville. I'll do an update video if it ever stops raining. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I am facing a similar tree scenario. BTW, that's a barred owl hooting at 10:37. They eat a lot of rats and mice.

Thanks for that. I had to look it up because we thought they were Great Horned Owl's, which we see the most. Our starlink has been great with less than a minute down time a day.

Very fine video! While obstructions are the bane of life with Starlink, it works. Good luck with this adventure. John

I'm also in north central Florida. I too received the best effort email and have been considering it. I have trees near my home but not as much as you do. Please do an update, when you can, on how it's performing after you have some time working with it. Thanks.

@@astrodiver1 Thank you, I have a follow up question. I have recently read of a couple of cases where Starlink repositioned the way the dish faces for some users that live along the coasts. One was in South Florida and theirs was moved to face ENE to attempt to receive signals from satellites over the ocean which are possibly not heavily used. Also, one case from Washington state where theirs was repositioned WNW over the Pacific. Since we are located more towards the center of the state I'm curious if Starlink has moved the facing of your dish from the north? I have trees along the west and east side of my home and I doubt it would work for me other than facing mostly to the north. Thanks.

@@bobb9541 My house is set to true North. The receiver usually points between 360 degrees and 15 degrees (I'm near Gainesville Fl) It normally points NNE and the receiver tilts around 40 degrees down (toward North) and sometimes tilts up to around 30 degrees, looking up. I have not seen it angled towards the NW, always NNE.

@@angiecrabtree508 That's great news! We can all live without TV but the internet... kinda rough! After 7 months Starlink has been great but we still have AT&T Dsl just in case. Our "obstruction map" on the App has us around 6-9% obstructed but the speed more than makes up for it.
@angiecrabtree508

Our obstruction was between 4 & 5 % Monday when we first hooked everything up. I checked this morning & it says we have zero obstruction. That shocked me. We was paying 175 for direct TV & 231.** for ViaSat & we're getting rid of ViaSat too. We finally feel like part of the 21st century lol

Might sound crazy but I'd even go as far as utilizing a tall tree next to the home, and mounting the satellite on top. Although, being from Florida, hurricanes are the first thing that comes to mind that might (almost certainly) be an issue. Have you had any issues at all with the trees?
@astrodiver1

Starlink is now mounted on the south end of the roof. We loose 6 - 10 minutes a day from obstructions but still overall it's still much better than our DSL. We were upgraded to "full residential" in March but it seems to be the same. i thought about mounting on a tall Pine tree but they can move 20ft at the top on a windy day. BTW Starlink survived a Cat 1/ tropical storm last October.

Have you been experiencing a lot of connectivity drops? My wife works from home so my only concern is her getting kicked off a lot. If you are experiencing drops how long do they last? We live near Dade City, FL and have been trying to get by with a cellular based service call Blazing Hog. I'd love to get decent internet where I can kick DirecTV and their $300 bill to the curb and go to a streaming service.

It has only been a week but it works much, much better than our AT&T DSL. It does tend to slow down between peak hrs of 7-11 PM. Even with TS Nicole over our heads last night it still worked slow but by 11PM and after the storm, it was back to it's "full" speed. If you need online conferencing or live gaming Best effort might not work for that. We dropped Direct TV a few years ago and the DSL handled it most of the time but the Starlink Best effort is still much faster and I haven't even mounted it on the roof yet which I'm sure will improve performance. We can run both computers 2 TV's both cellphones and other devices all at the same time. It sometimes drops 10-15 seconds but if your watching TV it buffers and you usually won't notice it because it D/L fast compared to AT&T. If you get a chance Ryan I would really appreciate a "like" on the video. It makes a difference with YT.
