Good info, thanks. A limited use case for RVs, I think. While traveling on highways, cellular is usually available. And while camped, trees often require placing the dish on a long cord in a clear area. Also 12 volt input for vehicle use would be handy to avoid having to use an inverter.

Thanks for the great overview, as usual! I'm looking forward to testing a high-performance dish on the boat in the hopes that us floating folks will have a better out-of-the-box flat solution that will perform better at anchor and underway.

If you are cruising down the highways of the US there is good cellular service in most locations for people in motorhomes and towing trailers so there is not as much need for starlink in motion especially at the $2500 price tag. From a value standpoint it is better to get residential with portability for use when you reach your destination on the road. It is significantly less expensive for the hardware, you get priority coverage with the residential service, and you choose where to mount the receiver so there are no obstructions

Perhaps I will get this, put it on my RV and then just have my home be connected to it either over ethernet or WiFi connectivity. As I understand what you are saying, this service does not give you 'priority connectivity' at a 'home location' like taking your current home system with you in 'RV Mode' does. Thank you!

People have modified the older one to disable the motors and sit flat, or have mounted it inside fiberglass domes. And it works pretty well in motion. But - it is not FCC certified, and the worry is that SpaceX will disable in-motion support via software when motion is detected on the Standard model, now that the new Flat model is available.

Having worked from the road the past 5+ years I've been anxious to see what Starlink would bring to the table but this is hugely disappointing. 4x cost for equipment that's not geared for mobile (120v power hungry) and deprioritozed service 3x price of most 5g providers. For now it's a niche market that may attract Tesla fan boys but as we now know there will be far better, more affordable options coming soon.
