The implication that Megatron uses his own gun mode to corrupt easily impressionable bots like Ulchtar to a path of violence is such a cool and twisted take. "These Autobots took away your friend! Shooting them is fun right? Join the Decepticons and you can do more of that!"

Love seeing the other side of the war. It’s not often that we get to see the Decepticon’s view of the conflict. Also making Starscream that through line is perfect, giving us the least passionate character the job of showing us such a fall from grace was brilliant. Wonderful work as always 💙

I see Skybound Starscream's tale as a Shakespeare tragedy. He went from a carefree and nice Cybertronians to a cruel and merciless being. And it all steamed from Genvo's death and the war. Out of all Cybertronians in the Energon Universe the war may have changed Starscream the most.

I’ve also had trouble in the past reconciling Starscream as both a respected scientist friend of Jetfire and a bloodthirsty warlord. Those never really came together in my mind. I want to wait until after I read the next issue, but this is the first time that I can see how Screamer would make that transition while remaining consistent. Generally my idea of Starscream aligns more with Megatron Origin, he’s one of the first Decepticons attracted to the idea of power and conquest. That doesn’t really make sense with Jetfire, however this radicalization origin does. Perhaps going forward this will be the template for Starscream origins featuring his friendship with the Autobot Air Guardian? In any case another fantastic video MB3! I love the more reflective approach of these last couple of videos!
@Moonbase3

That tends to be my idea of who Starscream is, as well, someone who is drawn to power and conquest because it's an innate part of his personality. The idea of him being radicalized by Megatron is a fun new take that I'm really digging because it breaks with my expectations for his tendencies and character. But, as you say, I think it's wise to see what the next issue has in store...

Now it begs the question: How is Jetfire going to react, if/when Starscream confirms the Autobots are the reason for Genvo's death? I can certainly see him crumbling after hearing that, if Daniel decides to include that in this fantastic comic.

Yeah, it really makes me wonder if there are some other factors that contributed to Jetfire crashing millions of years ago... But I suppose all of that depends on how the next issue is handled.

Sorry for the confusion - Ulchtar wasn't actually used in the comic, but it was an early name for Starscream when Jim Shooter and Denny O'Neil were naming the characters, before the job was handed over to Bob Budiansky. I believe we learned this at a TFCon a few years ago where Budiansky showed some early drafts of treatments and scripts and "Ulchtar" is crossed out and Starscream is written in.

The story is enjoyable as usual. And I'm sure there's more context to Starscream coming, but I'm not 100% sold on how well thought out this was. For one thing, Jetfire leaves before the war, so he doesn't know of his name change to Starscream, but repeatedly calls him "Starscream" in issue one. Now that Destro #5 has cone out, the other issue I had with it has been addressed, which is where it comes down in the timeline. Don't want to spoil it -we can discuss it later. The Megatron tank-gun feels like pandering to me. I dislike it intensely.

It does seem to be a pretty substantial continuity flub, but maybe Starscream will have contact with Jetfire in some form next issue. I'm expecting that, anyway, otherwise I will be in agreement that the planning for these two issues could have been more thorough.

Great recap & analysis of the issue! For timeline reference, that is addressed at the end of Destro #5 as we see a certain large object falling from the sky implying Destro series ends at the close of TF 12. GI Joe likely picks up after that point as well. I’d also suspect that we are somewhat in the past with the “present day” events here in #13. Likely occurring simultaneously somewhere during the events of TF 8-12. At least that is how I am interpreting it.

the turbocets remind me to the slugs in the War for Cybertron both being their to clear up the internals of the planet. I like to think that Starscream is being during the events of the Shockwave bring Cybertron to Earth, easy to haul an alien robot while everyone is dream about a new planet in the sky. been keeping up with the other Energon titles and M.A.R.S. salvaging Starscream raises big implications. I'm digging Megatron presentations in the book, going out of the fire, tempting Starscream to act on his worst impulses, I feel like the Energon Universe is shaping Megatron as the devil.

With the way I understand the timeline (based off a lot of evidence that would take too long to get into) I'm pretty sure the present day segments take place soon after TF#12, and way before Duke #1. Because of this, I doubt that these M.A.R.S. guys are gonna last very long.
