At 70 years old I have witnessed every "first" since human beings started their exploration of space. First space walk, first woman, first man on the moon etc. S o I watched this live in the U.K. today. The wonder of a launch never ever ceases to amaze me. But I will be honest I wept today watching that booster return to Earth. It was not just the spectacle of it but more the wonder at the ability of human beings to engineer and calculate what it takes to achieve such an awe inspiring feat. I hope I live long enough to see us return to the Moon, Mars I doubt if I will last that long. Well done all at Space X🎉🎉🎉🎉

I am in favor of unmanned exploration. The options here are huge. Especially missions to the outer planets use swing-bys to save some fuel. With such a launch system you could fly direct, that saves years of mission time. At the same time the budget probably still has money for more missions.

@@flacht_6rapid reusability and turnover. Theoretically if this is developed further you can use it to "turn over" the booster for rapid relaunch of another rocket, possibly achieving consecutive launches with the same booster. Kinda like jets on an aircraft carrier. One launch after the next instead of waiting weeks to months for another launch. Imagine the logistics of having to move or transport the booster which weighs many tons back many miles to the original landing site, VS having it land and re-hook up, back to its original launching site on its own.

I honestly had to find other sources to verify this actually happened, like how the fish is that real?! That giant flying tower, just coming into land like it was just a matchstick being put back in a box. I haven't really followed Starship's journey, just little snips and photos here and there. I think it doesn't take that much to scale up the control system to a bigger booster once you've got the hang on landing skinny little boosters routinely, but man you can't help but be in awe. That has got to be one of the most impressive aerospace and flying machine feats I've ever seen and in years to come, stuff like that could be routine, with other companies joining the party too! I hope SpaceX puts that booster on display somewhere, untouched, unrefurbished, with all the burns and scorch marks.
