We hear it so often, start them young. With so many opportunities to try sports and other pastimes it was time to get my young bloke out amongst it before he found an alternative interest. Yet, as a longtime mate said if 'if he has half the interest in hunting his Dad has, he will be all over it.'
For me the journey is at least as important and interesting as the destination. The planning, preparation, travel, obstacles, the mishaps and failure are all a chances to experience difficulty, learn and grow.
For sure its great to end up with a result, some meat, or a tangible memory of success. But if it was that way all the time, I for one would soon loose interest real quick.
If I can teach my son these principles, to get up when life knocks you down, and learn a different or better way, then I think I will have done a good job raising him.
This trip is but the first step on his path to working out Hunting.
As Randy Newberg says 'the best people he meets in life in general, business or where ever, they are Hunters.'
Be proud of it.
