Secular Ashkenazim in post-Enlightenment Europe were not subtle in the intent to start a Jewish nation-state in Palestine. As early as the mid-1880s, Jewish intelligentsia began to envision a movement backed by whichever financiers they could attain to create a Jewish state. By the time the so-called “early pioneers of Zionism” began to establish colonies in Palestine, their movement had already caused a schism among the worldwide Jewish community, especially in light of the fact that their narrative of terra nullius had been almost immediately disproved by the presence of Palestinians already thriving and deeply connected to the land the Zionists wished to claim.
Zionism isn't Judaism, and that means antizionism isn't antisemitism. Reach out to your local IfNotNow, JVP, or other Palestinian liberation chapter to get involved. All sources and citations at palestinelist.com
